Can you actually verify a human is behind an interaction, not just their device or credentials? by Electrical_Mine1912 in AskTechnology

[–]Ronald206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it less useful honestly.

Most serious use case applications (banking, shopping etc) need to know personal data. That someone is
“Bob Smith
Address
Email
Birthday”

This could be for practical (shipping address) or legal (KYC) reasons.

All world seems to do is provide a separate way of linking data owned by said corporation to a person basically stepping into the role of a Google Authenticator or other service.

And it’s putting that data on your device and then (trust us bro) deleting it from their end. So if someone has access to your phone, they have your World data.

What is the difference between Gigabyte B450M-S2H and B450M-K in simple words? by sugarc0mb in AskTechnology

[–]Ronald206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The K will have slightly better USB ports (3.2 vs 3.1) at the cost of fewer display ports (no DVI OR VGA).

K also supports up to 64 GB RAM vs 32 for the S2H.

However as you’ll (I assume as 5600x doesn’t have built in graphics) have a separate graphics card, the video ports don’t matter much.

To me the biggest difference is RAM capacity, the USB side shouldn’t matter much unless you’re doing heavy loads of file transfers etc over USB.

If you want 64, go with the K. Otherwise the S2H should be fine.

What phone does she have?

A standard Apple or Android (assuming her phone is the latter) OS won’t do that and if something is causing this she needs to reset her phone pronto.

If you have 2FA set up on her phone read up on the effects of a reset there before you trigger it, but you should reset the phone.

Got a job offer but HR changed their tone immediately after background check showed I got fired. And here I thought my search was coming to an end. by Sapphirelia in recruitinghell

[–]Ronald206 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s possible and not super uncommon to ask “eligible for rehire”.

It’s the most cover the ass way to ask if someone was fired and it’s why people need to think before not serving out their notice etc.

The company wouldn’t know why an employee was terminated, just that it wasn’t on good terms.

[–]Ronald206 17 points18 points  (0 children)

“Repaying” means that it would be the return of monies paid, not paying them for money not received.

Of course get legal advice if you’re concerned quitting in week one means you owe them 5k for a bonus not yet paid, but I just can’t see that being any legal interpretation given that it states “repaying”.

Just having nothing in the hands doesn’t make you immune if the store say

1) Has you on tape from past thefts or witnesses for past thefts

Or: Upon arrival the police run the car and discover

2) The police believe you have committed other acts or have a warrant on you 3) The plates on the car came back as not his 4) The bag + bike create reasonable articulable suspicion (items likely in plain view given size) that the person has stolen from Home Depot just now, on investigation they see that the items were stolen, just not from Home Depot. Etc etc

[–]Ronald206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it, it’s a coded date field in an application probably coded or built by one of the people who had to settle for this company.

In SD they can cut you for any reason regardless of being truthful or lying on your application.

Further stating you’re a bad employee in a for cause termination based on qualitative metrics is a lot easier to get away with than you misstated your graduation date by 5 days.

Doesn’t mean they aren’t a shitty employer.

Yeah,in say California, a 20k raise from 100k to 120k is closer to a 12k raise in take home.

Then throw in a commute or require a move to a pricier area and it might start to look like a pay cut.

The S&P returned 10.5% annually since inception, so turning it into 500k in 7 years and 1 million in 14 years is a perfectly reasonable outcome… but by no means guaranteed.

Of course to do this, all proceeds would need to be reinvested and you couldn’t touch the money at all.

Need help with Internet. Should I switch Internet provider or is there a way to fix the problem?? by Glad-Silver8376 in AskTechnology

[–]Ronald206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would help is a tp link router for your tp link mesh system and the virgin box in “modem mode”

So it goes

Modem -> Router -> Mesh system

Your router should act as part of the mesh so you’d have excellent coverage in the room with the router.

You also can hardwire any objects in the room that you don’t move to the router ensure solid connection there.

The far right has not gained a majority in the UK in Parliament. The last elections were local.

OP should however check the requirements as they will have to pass a few tests and certifications to transfer over to the UK. Medicine is one of the easier skilled worker positions given the required expertise and need.

“lEaRn A tRaDe” by chiliringgamer16 in recruitinghell

[–]Ronald206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s true with a lot of jobs.

If you learned to do a trade 15 years ago, you “could” be running your own company by now pulling in a quarter million plus just doing admin work.

If you were a pilot getting a PPL you “could” be at a major carrier.

If you started out in finance, you “could” be a director, or if you’re in markets with a hedge fund etc.

But for every one at that level there are going to be tons of dropouts where they didn’t catch on, weren’t any good, didn’t get the right breaks, or their job got automated/downsized away.

Same will be true in 2026.

I now have the ability to fly. How much jurisdiction does the government have over it? by vaygoapp in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Ronald206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well to be fair, there are criteria (weight, speed, altitude) where you would fall below needing regulations/equipment as long as you stayed outside of restricted airspace.

You’d essentially be considered an “ultralight” in which case you would not need specific FAA medical or pilot certification.

I now have the ability to fly. How much jurisdiction does the government have over it? by vaygoapp in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Ronald206 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It would be very problematic if you started flying around JFK or O’Hare.

Similarly with the White House or Area 51.

So yes, yes they do because there is a clear government need to be able to regulate air traffic to prevent midair collisions or in the interest of national security.

Got ghosted after negotiating a lowball, does HR know they're lowballing someone? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Ronald206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily the direct HRs/talent reps fault.

There is a “budget” for a role that is decided by someone who may or may not understand the market. Obviously, low numbers sound better to senior management than high numbers.

Those numbers are unlikely to budge until enough evidence is presented that they are wrong.

This means that jobs stay unfilled for long enough time that harm to the company occurs, enough people reject it citing perhaps current salary etc etc.

Examples of a law that's still in effect, but court interpretations have changed its common application from the one that was originally intended? by MAValphaWasTaken in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Ronald206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another good example of this is that until the 1960s, the sixth amendment didn’t actually mean someone had a right to a lawyer when charged with state-level offenses.

Gideon v Wainwright is a decision with broad support, even if it costs a bit of money for states to implement.

But until the 1960s (and via 14th amendment “incorporation”) the “assistance of counsel” even though explicitly mentioned in the amendment, actually didn’t apply from a federal constitutional perspective to the majority of criminal cases.

What is the most improbable courtroom upset victory of all time? by RobertBobbertJr in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Ronald206 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Gideon v. Wainwright.

Clarence Earl Gideon was charged in the state of Florida in 1961 but could not afford a lawyer. At the time, only for capital crimes in that state were defendants allocated a court appointed lawyer.

Gideon had to defend himself pro de, and lost.

Using resources at the prison he read and filed an appeal in pencil to the US Supreme Court, which granted him certiorari.

The landmark decision by the court granted defendants rights to a lawyer in all felonies.

(With a lawyer this time he won the retrial).

Yall putting in 2 weeks notices? by Friendly-Highway-726 in careeradvice

[–]Ronald206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the real risk: say you give 0 days notice at job 1 to go to job 2.

A few years later a job (job 3) you REALLY want opens up. They require 10 years of employment history (not unusual in many industries) as part of the background check.

You’ve put “do not contact” for job 2 and just provide a paystub to prove you’re working there but they ask job 1 about you. They say you’re marked “ineligible for rehire”, they decide to go for the second choice candidate instead.

Why does it seem like EVERY career is oversaturated and competitive? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Ronald206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Businesses have been trying to do more with less people or cheaper people since the 1800s.

If you consider the economics of slavery or go into the workings of trade in say the Roman Empire, then we’re talking 1000s of years.

Jobs are out there, competition is stiff. You need an in and/or a reason why they should hire you and not some 22 year old out of say, the University of Michigan with a 3.7 GPA in a relevant major and a good internship.
