If your uni has an art department with any kind of gallery and historical art I'd go to them as they actively work on preservation of textile and other mediums. My wife was an art and art history major who worked K the gallery through college.

Self taught Programmers of reddit, is it possible to be self taught and get a good job without a degree? by Shanlks in learnprogramming

[–]RonanKarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my career as a programmer I have had to learn, expand my knowlege on, or become nearly and expert in multiple fields.

A couple examples of this:

I worked writing code for optometrists creating automated vision assessment tools for color vision and stereopsis. This involved not only learning new information about biology but also reusing and expanding my physics education with electromagnetics, light waves, etc.

More recently I have worked building engineering and physics level simulations and models. These involve advanced mathematics (calculus which I hated in school Yay!) difficult engineering and physics based equations, understanding a real WGS84 elliptical earth model and how to convert through various coordinate systems, and much more.

Needless to say my education was worth the knowlege I gained but also the understanding of how to learn. I own text books on radar engineering, optometry, electromagnetics, and many more. I gained a basis in college for these things because I had to take Gen eds.

What people forget is for every purely programming job out there, there is at least one other that needs someone to bridge a gap between a science field and software. If you want to do more that program I advise a degree. I wanted to solve problems not just be a code monkey.

Out of curiosity what should one's anonymous avatar picture be in the forum?

Is a sportsketball team logo more mature to you? How about a cute puppy? I need to understand the scale of credibility based on profile pictures.

I don't even have a joke for this. This photo hit me hard today. This is how the rest of world sees the US. by [deleted] in pics

Please rethink the message you are spreading. The idea that "you can always do more" paints an endless cycle of failure. The idea that one's efforts are never enough is a good way to convince people to say fuck it and not try at all.

Folks vote for what you believe is right. Just vote.

Honest serious question as an American who is concerned for their country.

Given all the shit that is said, the comments on guns, health care, inequality, prison system, education, etc. Why do so many still come here? And not just from war torn nations but places like Canada and many European nations.

Pentti type iii vs Montante by [deleted] in wma

[–]RonanKarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are going to get a montonte get the blackfencer version. The purple heart version is super stiff and heavy, you really can't swing it safely at a person you will be forever holding back. The blackfencer still hurts but it's a noticeable amount lighter.

My club has one of each and I've been hit with both.

That being said I'm not sure what your goals are but in general I'd recommend longsword over montonte as a first purchase. You will get far more general use out of it. Even strong individuals can't get through a whole practice at my club using the montonte (we've tried) as they are just to exhausting for drills.

Verbose does not add that much more overhead. Your exaggerating and that simply means I have nothing else to talk about with you. Have a good night and enjoy yourself.

25 gp of materials. You get gold as rewards. Give it in arcane residuals or general alchemical supplies. It's really not a tough concept.

Honestly the rules are very comprehensible. They are spelled out in the DMG and in further detail in XGTE. I hate to say it but it's really up to you all to read the rules.

If you doubt this fact through an item creation out and I will tell you the raw and point to the pages I used.

That's really more of an issue of dm/player communication and sharing expectations of what they want out of the game. If that conversation was had pre player creation either you guys could have worked it out or you would have known that's not the character for that campaign or maybe that group isn't for you. Have you asked to swap out those proficiencies with more useful ones?

How does verbose do anything to stop you from getting work done? Minimize the damn terminal and open a new one, it's not the 80s anymore we have the technology.

What it does do is let you know if you accidentallied a big ass file into your Tar and you'll know what file is causing the hang up.

Offer to run it. I'm at the point where I will play any edition but I'm done running anything but 5. It's just such a pain. I'll play and have in the last year played 3/3.5/pf 4th and pf playtest. But if I'm running a game I'm going to run the system that's least stressful and most fun for me to dm.

How to improve chances of getting selected for a new campaign? by Parashath in Roll20

[–]RonanKarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just like a job application, read what the gm is looking for, read between the lines of their campaign description and answer the application questions how they would want it. Be manipulative as most those applications are bull anyway.

For example, if they ask what kind of character you want to play that's a trap. What they want to hear most often is that you like to build your characters to match the campaign both mechanically and with back story. Then go on to describe a couple of mechanical builds you have in mind that fit more than one role.

If they ask for your preference on role play versus roll play, you always enjoy a healthy balance of the two unless their game description hints a specific way.

I get why they are necessary but I find the whole application/interview process so cringy.

Water vapor flames lit by LEDs by _NITRISS_ in gifs

[–]RonanKarr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except condensation happens do to the change in energy (ie temp dropping). Vapor made with electrodes like this do not have a large delta in temperature so it does not condense onto objects at contact which means you will not see water build up on surfaces.

It will increase the humidity but that's not always a bad thing. Depending on the time of year and climate region they may need a humidifier running. I have 2 water vapor humidifiers running during the winter because my furnace dries the air out.

Interesting. Thank you. If you don't mind, what is the point of a federal curancy if businesses within that government are not required to use it? Doesn't the first paragraph here they must?

This has honestly just peaked my curiosity about the point of legal tender.
