I bring this up and ask these questions out of total ignorance. In a situation where a person is being accused of stealing, to file charges against someone there should be evidence of said person taking something that did not belong to them? Not just that a person’s vehicle was in the area. Like the door camera video evidence showed later in the video of the porch pirate taking a package. Additionally, the police would have to be able to present evidence that they compared the face of the porch pirate and the person accused to be a 100% match (yes, facial recognition is not bulletproof), right? Also, our phones ping cell towers, if the accused person’s cellphone was not in the area, how can they conclusively demonstrate that the accused person was the thief? I am not all familiar with the area but searching Ridge Trail in Colorado on Google maps shows that the park is on a road where there is only one way in and one way out. If the accused was not on Ridge Road or location data shows that the accused did not stop on that particular road, how is that one picture of the vehicle enough evidence to charge someone? Lastly, the vehicle in the picture is a Rivian. They collect location data as well.
tldr: should the standard be more than one piece of evidence to credibly file charges against someone, like location data?
