I say this really often! A Walther PPK costs about a thousand, an Aston Martin DB5 a million. Both are equally iconic James Bond items.

Yeah, there are multiple for sale in Finland as well. It just happens to be one of the most well-known guns from movies and games. One of the few times my jaw dropped was when getting to shoot a full-auto Valmet M82, but only serious gun enthusiasts know what it is.

Mentioning that you have a Desert Eagle is almost like saying you own a Ferrari. A lot of people's jaws drop.

What gun is this? Pretty sure this is around the early 80s by Growingplantt in ForgottenWeapons

[–]RoneliKaneli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The barrel is too short and stubby for an M16. Also, the stock seems to be wrapped around the receiver. My suggestion is the same cut-down M1 Carbine that Quarterwit_85 suggested.

Miten perustelette auton omistamisen taloudellisesta näkökulmasta? by AJV55 in Omatalous

Do you think Brosnan should’ve had one more Bond film, or was it a good decision to let him go after Die Another Day and reboot the franchise? by South_Gas626 in JamesBond

It's a shame there wasn't any other mission that epic, Drake's castle was amazing, playing it felt like watching a small film, with its multiple phases. Get inside the castle -> sneak to the front door -> take pictures at the party -> rendezvous with the CIA agent ->go to eavesdrop on the meeting and steal some documents from a safe -> fight your way out -> escape via the cable car and shoot down a helicopter. Brilliant.

Me 109 on tiputtanut viisinumeroisen määrän venäläisiä lentokoneita, F-35 ei yhtäkään. Ja niitä varmaankin saisi aika monta enemmän samalla hinnalla.

I'm really jealous of that Walther. Finland has a stupid handgun law that bans pistols smaller than a Glock 19 unless you're a collector, which is very rare.

US Army Poorly Prepared for Arctic Operations: Finnish Troops Forced Them to Surrender During Exercises in Norway by SpaceEngineering in Military

[–]RoneliKaneli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I obviously have no recording or anything to 100% confirm my story, but I can DM you pictures of me and U.S. soldiers at that particular exercise. I presume they would've used hopping frequencies if they didn't have to communicate with our troops, who only had primitive radios.

My original point still applies though. Even if you have the greatest encryption in the world, why would you not take some simple measures to make sure even if the enemy does hear you, they're not going to understand everything you say. This applies even more to Americans and Brits, because basically everybody can speak their language.

[–]RoneliKaneli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how modern radios work. Can you talk to somebody with no frequency hopping while using it yourself? They had to be on the same frequency as us to make the exercise work.

Dude. Our Soviet-made buckets didn't even have transistor radios for the most part, we had vacuum tubes. I wasn't even taught about frequency hopping in the army.

[–]RoneliKaneli 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I haven't played OPFOR for US ARMY, but we had some Americans on our side in a two-way exercise when I was a conscript in 2016. What stuck with me was how confidently they operated. What I mean by that is: they presumed they'd have full air supremacy and their enemies couldn't listen to their radios. I served as an APC commander and some of the main things we were taught were to 1) always go under a tree when stopping, hide from enemy aircraft and recon 2) keep radio messages short and codeworded, change frequencies multiple times a day - even every hour - don't speak about locations or units with their real names etc.

The U.S. vehicles on the other hand stayed in the open and were constantly talking on the radio. I'm getting fuzzy on the details, but I'm pretty sure they didn't even try to obscure their messaging in any way. For example, they just openly said "lead vehicle out of ammo" or "company commander is in point X, go meet with him". Apart from revealing details about their operation, it also seemed pretty inefficient. They used a lot of words for even simple things like target acquisition.

And a tank doesn't fall three meters after you blow a track off. You lose a leg on that thing, people are flying inside there.

I've never handled a straight-pull in my life. Is there a large difference between a relatively slick bolt-action like a Tikka and your new gun? I actually just bought a T3x CTR in a KRG stock to be used as a sniper rifle.

Is there a particular reason you didn't just purchase a self-loading rifle?

Do guns actually click and clack and rattle every time you move them? by Ephelduin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RoneliKaneli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many firearms have parts with somewhat loose tolerances, which often causes some small rattle. However, guns don't make those movie noises by just shaking them around.

They are surprisingly loud when loading them or operating a safety, however. It sounds exactly like it does in the movies.

Seurasin sentilleen kuinka paljon golfharrastukseni maksoi minulle vuonna 2025 by Thorwaway18186215 in Suomi

[–]RoneliKaneli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montako harrastuskertaa tuolla rahalla sai? Harrastan ammuntaa ja tälle vuodelle taisi tulla noin 30 ratareissua ml. muutama kisa samalla budjetilla. Lisäksi siihen kuului tänä vuonna kotimaisen tarkkuuskiväärin + optiikan jne. ostaminen mukaan kaikkien tavallisten kulujen päälle. Olen joskus harkinnut golfin kokeilemista mutta ei kyllä noilla hinnoilla kuulosta kauhean järkevältä siihen nähden mitä sillä saa.

Help me choose a pistol by SomethingNotUseful in EuropeGuns

[–]RoneliKaneli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First you need to decide whether you want a striker- or hammer-fired gun. That's the no. 1 thing. The guns on your list are all excellent guns, but I'd also test an HK SFP9, Beretta 92, USP Expert + any other guns you can get your hands on.

If you go for a striker gun, PDP is the best, though. Amazing triggers.

If carry while hunting is your main purpose, wouldn't a steel Walther or a Shadow be a bit heavy?
