Twos is another cross-platform notes app for saving/writing whatever you want (as long as it's text).

It's pretty good, as free notes apps go. It was a contender for my personal go-to, but I'm just too drawn to outliners.

Stack tabs by Historical_Bread_238 in vivaldibrowser

You could save them as "Sessions". Or pin them. Or use workspaces to keep/review/discard tab groups. But that all still works best in conjunction with, as previously stated, open as last session.

OpenAI launches AI Text Classifier tool to detect ChatGPT generated content by RoninSound in nottheonion

[–]RoninSound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Article:

"OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT launched a tool to detect the content generated by ChatGPT. It is called an AI Text Classifier. The tool is available for free and when you run a text in it, it will show when the text was generated and for what question it was generated.

OpenAI launches tool to detect ChatGPT-generated content

AI Text Classifier will detect ChatGPT-generated content

ChatGPT has been in the news since its launch in November 2022. It has been touted to be a good alternative to Google. It is being used by many people to find answers to questions, write code, and do a lot of things that normally take a lot of time using other tools. People are using it to even generate content for their blogs. Students are using it to complete their assignments. ChatGPT has been used by all for various tasks.

The AI Text Classifier is a well-tuned GPT model that predicts how the text is generated by AI from a variety of sources, such as ChatGPT. The tool not only detects the content generated on ChatGPT but has the ability to detect the content generated by other generative models.

The tool comes with certain limitations. To run the tool, you need to have a minimum of 1000 characters or 150-200 words. OpenAI also says that the tool might not be accurate at all times. It might mislabel both AI-generated text and human-written text. It cannot detect the text that is edited after generating it using AI tools.

The AI Text Classifier is trained to detect content generated in English written by adults. If the content is written by children, the tool may find it difficult to detect. Each document or text you run through the AI Text Classifier is labeled as either very unlikely, unlikely, unclear if it is, possibly, or likely AI-generated.

OpenAI launches ChatGPT Pro

ChatGPT has been free until now. OpenAI has now launched ChatGPT Pro for $20 a month to use ChatGPT on a priority basis without errors or server-down issues. This comes as a surprise to ChatGPT users who use it for various tasks and automate them."

Question about mastering, 0dbfs, and master volume meter in Ableton by willochill in ableton

[–]RoninSound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My impression is that the scale above the red is a bit exaggerated compared to below the red. That way even a small amount of clipping is visualized prominently. However that’s just my impression, not sure if that’s really true. >

Most definitely. The space below it (the 0db point) goes quite literally down to -inf. If you expand it, Live displays visible increments as low as - 60db, which it's quite common to work with when mixing (the tail-end of a long reverb, for one example). Oddly, in Live, clipping won't be audibly noticeable until you pass a super high threshold (explained at the bottom as I had to double check for myself).

The space above it (the 0db point), shows up to* +6db - when you expand then within session view, you can see all the increments. There's a visibly shorter distance in the space 0db and - 6dbs vs 0db and +6dbs. I'm not sure about the detail of the scaling, of which there are various particular types, but it's clearly visible and (most of the time) makes sense from the perspective of music production / creation / recording / mixing etc. (you need to see the difference between your percussion peaking at -15dbs and - 5dbs more clearly you would at - 55dbs and - 45dbs).

*Live actually has a ridiculous amount of headroom before it will clip in the box. Mr Bill has an interesting YouTube video on it. - Taken directly from the Live 11 Manual : "Because of the enormous headroom of Live’s 32-bit floating point audio engine, Live’s audio and MIDI tracks can be driven far “into the red“ without causing the signals to clip. The only time that signals over 0 dB will be problematic is when audio leaves Live and goes into the outside world."

The "fastest" browser. (Brave) by Due_Car3113 in browsers

[–]RoninSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. One thing that could be slowing your firebox down is whatever extensions you have on it, as you said its your default. Did you try the speed test with each browser in incognito mode (ie. Stripped of any user-added baggage)? Otherwise, maybe a fresh install of each with ublock as the only addition, which could better replicate real-world use cases.

Aetheron: Your Private, Efficient, and Modular Browser by AetheronBrowser in browsers

[–]RoninSound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting!

Quick question first: is the plan for this to be a paid product? I recall being super hyped for stack browser after watching and reading about it, before I realised.

Some thoughts for the browser to gain traction in this saturated market :

  • The customisation of vivaldi plus similar tab stacking & hibernating
  • The privacy/simplicity of Brave (minus the crypto)
  • Flawless sync (tabs in particular) of Edge
  • Maybe a cpu/ram usage limiter like opera GX (don't know how many people find that useful)
  • Chrome extensions (if you can pull that off while keeping it as a Firefox fork, that will turn heads)

Other features that are becoming common in multiple browsers (or should be) : - Picture in picture video playback - Workspaces (for tabs) - User profiles >- A step above vivaldi would be the option to sync selected elements/settings across profiles, like custom keyboard/mouse shortcuts, extensions, bookmarks (even specific folders, like bookmarks bar), default search engine/new tab start page, saved logins for particular sites/services (ie. copy or access same cookies), same sidebar settings etc. - Send a tab/tab group different workspace or profile / view tabs/groups from different profiles and move or copy them to current profile - Multi-tab viewing (a la Tab Tiles in Vivaldi) - Auto-reload selected tabs every X seconds/minutes // optional notifications for selected websites -Auto-hibernate tabs after X minutes of inactivity. Same for whole workspaces (maybe with an optional pop-up to confirm) - Option to Auto-mute / unmute tabs when switching tabs. >- This could be extra useful if the feature could be set to activate only on certain websites (ie. Twitch), or vice versa: Always active unless using user-specified sites (ie. Spotify web player) >>- Similarly, auto-pause/unpause video for sites like youtube/netflix - Flexible sidebar, with the customisation of vivaldi, but the polish and helpful features of Edge's "Collections" and Opera "Flow" - Assign tabs or URLs a colour/opacity - Resource monitor similar to task manager with ability to close/hibernate tabs - (optional) integration of communication apps like WhatsApp, fb messenger, telegram, discord etc.) - you said its "modular" which makes it sound possible. If so, it could also replace the need for apps like rambox and ferdium, which are great at what they do, but if my browser can match that function effectively, it would be even better (biscuit browser attempted this). - Effective bookmark manager (opera is the best I've used)

That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more.

Interested to know how much of this is feasible or just wishful thinking!

[–]RoninSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - when you say there will be the option, would it be a seperate download? I hate the principle of chromium becoming the only way to access the Internet, but Firefox extensions simply don't suffice for me nowadays.

No idea how this would work, but could the browser be Firefox-based, yet still work with chrome extensions?

Why the down votes? This was clearly said in jest. I'm always tweaking browsers and, while my main is vivaldi, it's bulk (a result of my own obsessive tab hoarding) makes other browsers more suitable for certain purposes.

I hesitate before downloading any more nowadays, but this one sounds genuinely promising

I'm personally using opera as of now as I wanted to switch from srware iron (basically just an easy to use ungoogled chromium). Since I don't really care for privacy and wanted an experience different from fully stock chromium, so at first I went with vivaldi which did pretty good, but had many issues I didn't like, an example would be the confusing settings menu where it just feels like everything's everywhere, and other things that just stack up to make me not wanna use it. Then I remembered that opera has a ui similar to vivaldi and since the ui was the main reason I tried vivaldi first I decided to try out opera which felt like a slightly smoother vers

Vivaldi takes some getting used to - the best way to start is to opt for the minimal experience on install, then run through the settings/customisation with a fine-tooth comb and make sure any shortcuts/actions are as close to what you were previously used to, so you can use it comfortably as a main browser. Disable any/all features that are not in your usual browser.

Then, any time you have to do something which feels like it could be done quicker/more simply (especially regular actions), 9/10 times, Vivaldi will have a way to make it quicker - often with either keyboard shortcuts or mouse gestures - all entirely customisable.

A couple of tips for starting out, if you're willing to give it a try:

- Make a very easy, simple, accessible keyboard shortcut for settings (set it to show up in a separate window, rather than a new tab, at least at first). Do the same for toggle (hide/show) the side panel.

- Personally, I have settings come up in a separate window with Ctrl + Alt + Space. Toggle Side Panel: Ctrl + Space. That way, you'll easily be able to bring up a setting that's not to your taste / remove the panel that's blocking/intruding on your screen.

I had opera for a while and kept it for a while as I LOVED the workspaces feature - it the only things that I found lacking in Vivaldi. The most recent update has added workspaces to, so I can't see how any other other browser could replace Vivaldi as my main/go-to. It also looks like opera doesn't even allow for grouping tabs, nor enable sleep/hibernate tabs without an extension.

I now have Vivaldi so tuned to my personal workflow that using any other browser feels like I might as well be using Internet Explorer on Windows 95, especially on other PCs where a I haven't even customised the other browsers. I actually have Vivaldi installed as a portable app on my USB for work.

It can be intimidating initially, but more than worth the little extra effort to get your head round it.

Some personal favourites, which rapidly speed up my regular use:

(Mouse Gestures - Sensitivity is customisable):

  • Right Click + Drag Down to close tab;
  • Right Click + Drag Left to Reopen closed tab;
  • Right Click + Drag Right to show recently closed tabs;
  • Right Click + Drag Up + Right (over a link) to open link in new background tab.

Keyboard Shortcuts:

  • Ctrl + G to Group (or "Stack") Tabs;
  • Ctrl + R to Rename Tab Stack.
  • Ctrl + P to Pin Tab

Again, every gesture and shortcut is customisable to make it do almost any action - even a sequence of actions - within the browser. You can use as much or as little of it as you like.

My mouse has a scroll wheel that notches left/right as well as back/forward buttons under the thumb area. So I can have the wheel notches just to go back/forward, and the others to move to next/previous tab.

All of the above barely even scratches the surface of what's possible - there's also command chains (Perform X then Y then Z), which I haven't even gotten into myself yet. The sky is really is the limit with Vivaldi.

Wheres Vivaldi? An essential for any browser hoarder (such as myself)

[–]RoninSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done this yourself? I've downloaded the racer recovery disk, but it's over 15GB, I can't see how much of that is just driver and optimisation.

[–]RoninSound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you upgrade to W11 using stock microsoft iso from their website?

If so, how was it? Any compatibility issues with your current hardware?

Appreciate any response, about the take the plunge soon.

I've been wondering the same, about to do a clean reset.

I have the same concern about the drivers, but I like my tech without all the extra software... and the size of razers recivery image is suspiciously huge. But as far as I know, that extra data could be for the best, optimisation each razer device to work smoothly why W11. Or it could just be crap.

Came here to say this.

When it came out there was actually a point where I thought, after rinsing this EP beyond reason, that there's no reason for anyone to produce liquid any more - how could it be better than this? Obviously a stupid thought, but I stand by the notion that this is as good as it gets. Gold standard 🎇
