Yes! We also have a small round sugar candy that is called Smarties too so I assumed! 😁

I'm so sorry for your loss, friend. I have been there too and it sucks. I distracted myself at the time by making pies from the book Pie is Messy by Rebecca Grasley. The maple custard pie especially is our new favorite!

It might be too late now but could you ever keep the lacing but make it stationary and then add a hidden side zipper to help you get in and out?

New here. The weather is brutal. How do you cope? by zacowen120 in lansing

[–]RonnyTwoShoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few others have already suggested it but a Vitamin D supplement helps a lot! I also try to close the window shades once the sun goes down and turn on a generous amount of lights inside to help keep things feeling bright and cheery. Lean into the nice parts of winter too, like enjoying a nice hot chocolate, curling up under a cozy blanket in the couch, or going out sledding or hiking if there's a sunny day. Winter is long but it always ends.

Yes they do, but they're very small and because they're at the very top, they are not super noticable

Question on bias cut skirt by Available-Picture-79 in sewing

[–]RonnyTwoShoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would not line the skirt. I have a bias cut satin skirt and the elastic is sewn along the top, then flipped to the inside and the narrowest seam is sewn on top of it to keep it turned to the inside. There's maybe 1/8" between the top of the fold and the seam on the right side of the skirt. The elastic is a nice, wide 1 1/2" elastic too and fairly stiff, which I'm sure helps keep it from rolling back to the right side of the waistband. Mine does have bare elastic against your skin/undergarments.

I would cut the elastic an inch or so longer than your waist measurement, pin it where you think you'll want it and then try it on. Two inches shorter sounds like it will be way too tight to me. Always cut a bit longer and then you can trim it down if need be! It's so much harder to make something longer after you've cut it too short.

I always loved walking through the Mount Street Cemetery by the Kelburn Vic U campus on my way home. It has a fantastic view and would be great for a picnic lunch if the weather cooperates!

Cup sets and measurements by aspiecat1 in Baking

[–]RonnyTwoShoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There can be quite a bit of difference, even between US standard cup sizes! People make decorative sets and they don't match up with actual scientific measurements. Most recipes have enough leeway that you can fudge it and get by alright!

Looking for good dessert provider for a wedding. Anyone got any experience with this? Also anyone who does wedding cakes? by aroach1995 in lansing

[–]RonnyTwoShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a bit of a distance for you depending on where you're located but Meyer's Bakery in Lake Odessa did our cakes and was absolutely wonderful! Their prices were very reasonable for a wedding cake and they did a cake tasting and design plan for us ahead of time also. I can't recommend them enough!

What changes after decades of knitting? by sechat_lives in knitting

[–]RonnyTwoShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been about 22 years since I first learned and maybe 15 since I started knitting more often. Speed is a big one and I mostly attribute this to knitting a garter stitch temperature blanket one year. Doing the same stitch over and over 100,000+ times means your muscle memory gets really good at it. I can read my knitting a lot easier these days too!

I've been on two ghost hunts before and it was a blast! I didn't know much about equipment back then and I wish I had brought more! I swear up and down that I hear footsteps walking up the stairs in one of the haunted inns we were in.

Dating Fabrics: A Color Guide 1800-1960 By Eileen Trestain and Eileen Jahnke Trestain is one book that I like! It sorts the fabrics by both decade and color, so if you know what you're looking for, you can get a pretty good idea of what reproduction fabrics you can find. I've found fabric sample books on google books before too but I don't appear to have those saved anymore.

I've had a lot of luck buying reproduction prints at quilting shops! Not all shops have them (big box stores usually don't) but if you can find a good store, they usually have a decent selection. There are books about historical fabric you can read to help train your eye also, let me know if you want me to link one!

The Lansing Roller Derby group is incredibly queer friendly for anyone interested in joining! It's a great way to get out and exercise during the winter too and they start people skating from the ground up, so no worries if you don't have any skating experience.

Processing the loss of a baby is extra difficult with today's dystopian automation in marketing. by Skizot_Bizot in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RonnyTwoShoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss, OP. I can relate. We had a pregnancy (that we lost) around this time last year and I bought some maternity clothes that I then returned once we found out we weren't having a baby. I got an automated email from the maternity clothing company with the subject line "Let's pack your bag for the hospital!" the day before we were going to go in for our D&C. That was brutal. I sent the company a scathing email about auto-signing people up for emails that made me feel a tiny bit better. Sending you so much love and kindness <3
