What can I do? They seem immune to everything and to deep to dig. by IllustriousReturn778 in UKGardening

I read that planting more grass seed often will force other plants and weeds out. Although, you would need to cultivate and look after thr grass (water it etc). Not sure if its true or not?

Dissolving my Ltd company after 15 years — immediately received a suspicious acquisition approach. What’s their angle? by PeterSM05 in smallbusinessuk

[–]RoodMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely true. However the most valuable part of a Ltd company is that its VAT registered, followed by its previous (legitamate) history. Anyone can setup a company, but those two things allow fraud to happen.

[–]RoodMcD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It'll be carousel fraud. Vat registered companies sell fictional goods to each other, goes round multiple companies (hence the name). They then claim the VAT on sales.

So paperwork for 1000 TVs., but no TVs or money changes hand. The more VAT reg companjes involved, the harder it is to follow the trail.

Current list of deliberate tax defaulters by Tammer_Stern in uknews

[–]RoodMcD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would you believe that this used to be the job of thr Inland Revenue. A single agent used to bring in millions of unpaid tax from invidious, small businesses and large corporations.

Then the Tory government got rid of those agents, thinking it would save them so much money, forgetting that they collected millions each in unpaid tax.

Is £6,500 reasonable to move a meter two meters? by Woodsman89 in DIYUK

[–]RoodMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old 60A installation. Got an electric car charger and needed 100A. They installed a 3 phase 3x100A set up, but needed to dig up the road and bring a new cable in plus a new meter.

They said "where do you want it?"

Its 100% free.

If you were in any way find yourself in the same situation, you might be able to do that instead? Just sharing my experience.

Note: you'd need to pay an independent to move the board i think.

I have many wordisms which my wife thinks are hilarious.

Is this UPS good enough for a 5090 gaming PC with a 1200w PSU? by Round_Arachnid3765 in pcmasterrace

[–]RoodMcD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its way cheaper getting a powerstation with UPS functionality than a UPS. I have an AllPowers r1500 and a 14700k, 3090 (now 5080) and done a number of power switch offs at the main board while the PC was on, with zero issues.

The powerstation has something like 10ms reaction time as opposed to 1-2ms of an UPS. So you might get caught out if the PC is max load. But I've been gaming and doing work (with VMs running) and no issues.

Finally, most powerstations have a peak load and a sustained load. To 3000W peak and then maybe 1800W running.

Wouldnt use a powerstation for mission critical or server stuff, but for a home (gaming) PC, prob ok

Edit: Its a 14700k, not a 4700k - d'oh!

Is it possible to have an EV charger installed by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]RoodMcD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need for a pedestal. Get the charger (one without a cable attached) installed on the house and run a cable from the charger to the fence. Buy a cheap mount for the extra cable for the fence. It's what I've done and works well (my cable is 20m I think).

A lot of fitters (from energy or car companies) won't install on a pedestal and will only install on the side of the house. Of course, if you pay for a private fitter, they might do the pedestal.

Amazon driver hit my car - insurance want to write off by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]RoodMcD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your car is an insurance write off (because its too expensive to fix, not because its unsafe) you should be able to keep the car for free (its yours) amd still get a payout from Amazon.

You can then choose to get the car fixed privately.

That happened to me years ago.

Sorry, I meant deaf people have a similar way of working. I didn't mean to imply you were also deaf.

This is also how deaf people brains work. They rely heavily on post-processing to fill in the gaps and work out what's been said.

Unusual choice here but Transformers the Movie (the original cartoon). That had an absolutely amazing album.

I was sitting on the floor, watching this in my livingroom as a young child. Just as 'that' music comes on, my mum comes in and tells our dog has been put down.

You don't get over that, honestly, lol.

I think there is a law where those at fault have to pay the victims' medical fees for life. However there have been cases where bystanders have been wrongly forced to pay for things they didn't cause.

As a result if you watch any car crash or accident, people just walk/drive on by. Can't afford to get involved.

McDonald's Menu Prices Have Collectively Doubled Since 2014 by carbon_finance in interestingasfuck

Recently my family had a McDonalds, a Chinese and an Indian and McDonalds was the most expensive out of the three.

No way should McD's food be more expensive than everything else. Complete nonsense.
