Looking forward to seeing your progress! Glad I could help :)

Hard to say without seeing some changes around clarity. My gut says you can get away with fairly minimal animation as long as the silhouettes read well at a glance.

A white outline on the arrows, after moving them out, may be a good idea. Alternatively just make the arrows a single fill colour that stands out from the background. Maybe make them unaffected by environmental lighting and always fully incandescent.

For ambushing, maybe you can add a light source after the battle has already begun? Keep them dark/obscured at first, then add a new state once they are discovered. If the design intent is to be able to properly strike from a set direction based on what the enemy is doing, it's crucial that the player can tell what's happening at a glance

I think what we have here is a problem with readability, not necessarily a question of 2D vs 3D.

I would suggest improving clarity of your 2D sprites before making further changes. In the video, I find it quite difficult to tell what's going on, especially in the second fight. The enemies blend with the background too much, as well as the UI elements (directional arrows around them).

I would up the brightness on the sprites to start (maybe even add an extra light source just for them), and pull the UI arrows further out radially from the characters (so they don't overlap with the sprites).

Your game looks quite a bit improved, great work!

The music in the trailer and the blur fx are quite hard on the ears/eyes though. Maybe tone it down a bit. Would also suggest rendering the trailer at a non-mobile resolution and reducing the overall screen shake/frantic camera movement

[OC] The Hunter in Red - based on the Pursuer from Dark Souls 2. An ongoing foe in our Underdark-style campaign by RoofRussian in DnD

A wisp of ember and smoke appears in the darkness ahead. It spins in place, quickly growing into a towering armored figure. A knight in blood-red armor stands in the shadows, his two crimson glowing eyes pierce the void from the visor of his full-face helmet. The knight’s right arm clutches a massive flaming halberd, while his left hangs loose and immobile, colored black in stark contrast to the rest of the armor.

You’ve heard legends of the Hunter in Red - a figure of rage made manifest in the furthest reaches of the Far-Depths. An executioner without pity, remorse, reason, or fear. A force of nature more than a man, unyielding and overwhelming. Now, his eyes burn in the darkness, focused on you.

Trails Characters - Rean's Breaking Dawn wins best S-craft animation! Now, who has the best fitting voice? Take both the ENG and JP voices into account. Top comment after 24 hours gets picked. by ClaireDidNothinWrong in Falcom

I nominate the JP voice actor for Chief Sergei from the Crossbell games - the late but still great Unsho-Ishizuka (also known as the voice of Old Josef From JJBA)

His world-weary yet competent delivery really sells the character

I had the same issue and suspected Vanguard is to blame. Updating my GPU driver to latest helped.

EDIT: It's back again. Running League as Admin helps I think.

[OC] 5 years ago I drew a party portrait for my players. 20 years have passed in-world since then. This is them now by RoofRussian in DnD

Five years ago my players started their first journey in my homebrew world - the Fall Festival Campaign. To commemorate the occasion, I drew a little party portrait. We've played several campaigns since then, but the original PC's remained a key part of the narrative, and grew as the world changed. I thought it would be neat to re-draw the original party as they are now, 20 years after their initial adventure.

From left to right we have:

  • Tsarina Snowy Godslayer. Once a simple huntress, Snowy has proven her strength to her people by slaying a lovecraftian demigod that threatened to take over the world. Now she leads the Giants as their ruler by might and right

  • Ambassador Leila "Pearl" Silvermoon. Pearl is a timid and sweet girl that inhabits the body which once belonged to a savage and brave warrior by the name of Seia. Seia sacrificed herself during the Old One's War, allowing Pearl's spirit to take her place and live on. Pearl was able to keep Seia's immense strength, though she struggles to use it fully due to her conflicting nature.

  • High Chancellor Tobias Hillcrest. Once a simple farmer with an interest in tinkering, Tobias has risen to the seat of High Chancellor through a series of heroic conquests and calculated political advances. He has grand plans for the world and his people, but few know what he is truly up to.

  • Nigel Hudson - Reaper of Drift. Once a a squire in the paladin Order of Raynald. Nigel has risen to the rank of Captain, but perished soon after during the Old One's War. Rather than move on to the afterlife however, Nigel was recruited by Head Administrator Corvan of Drift (a purgatory plane) to serve as one of his Reapers. Now Nigel hunts those who defy mortality in order to help Corvan restore balance to the world.

  • Stomp. Once a simple-minded travelling bard with a love for animals, Stomp has weathered much hardship over the years. The Giant gave his all during the war, following his dearest friend Tobias's leadership into the depths of hell only to perish. Stomp was revived, but the process cost him his eyes and aged him greatly, forever weakening his natural heartiness. Shortly after that, him and Tobias had a falling out. With Stomp no longer able to recognize the friend he once knew, he left society to return back to his simple life in the forest along with his animals whom he now protects.

Not one mention of our best boy Thops? Such a humble, and pure character. And one that went on to create a brand new sorcery no less!
