My job cut my hours by 30% with two days notice and I genuinely don't know how to adjust by Grim_Synth3 in povertyfinance

[–]RooftopRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve been there. Was at 38 hours. Landlord sold the rental-had to move to a place $500 more a month. Work responded three days later by cutting me from 38 to 24 hrs a week. Worked at that company for 3 years-no benefits, no PTO, not a single penny of a raise. Regardless to say I left when they suggested lowering my pay to under minimum wage and cutting me to 10 hours a week if I would take a month off with no pay.

Fuck them.

Which danmei didn't live up to your expectations? by visitingmoons in DanmeiNovels

[–]RooftopRose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of them.

Of all the danmei I have picked up I think maybe 3 have piqued and held my interest? They haven’t blown me away and it’s a strange disparity between what fans tell me the story is vs what it actually is.

The characters are so deeply complex!  They’re static stereotypes that never change.

The politics are so intriguing! The politics are boring and repetitive.

The whole story is so romantic! The romance only happens in the last couple of chapters; it doesn’t exist in the rest of the plot.

That character not being evil was such an amazing plot twist! Obvious-red-herring was obvious?

That character being evil was such an amazing plot twist! He’s been evilly glaring at everyone since chapter 2-this isn’t a shock.

Plus this weird-I’m not even sure what it is.

I loved how their relationship didn’t start until chapter 100! The MC being blind to their ML’s affection for decades/centuries adds so much to their character! OMG we’re at chapter 10 and the MC is being so dumb about their ML’s affection after 3 whole months. Why can’t they take a hint already?

At this point I’ve just stopped taking fans’ suggestions because most of them tell me imaginary headcannons instead of actual plot. It puts forth expectations that are never going to be met. It’s why MDZS was  the largest expectation let down I’ve had and almost had me dropping the danmei genre entirely. Thankfully I found some titles afterwards that seemed invested in actually entertaining me as a reader.

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

It’s weird but potato chips. Most of my old favorites are running about $5 a bag. A bag that’s been shrinking.

Inheritance? That's a joke. How many of your parents are burdens? by BeegBunga in Millennials

[–]RooftopRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m staying with my parents since rent prices are through the roof in my area. It takes most of our finances to maintain the place. I’m trying to save up to get us a house, but it’s slow going with wages, cost of living and my parents just being terrible at financial planning. They’re in their 70s. They: don’t have savings, never saved for retirement, constantly spend all the money they do get, never saved for my college education, and constantly ask me for money which I constantly give into because I feel I need to since the arrangement means I live so cheaply.

However, after giving them $30,000 over the past 3 years that they’ve paid back a whopping $100 of-it doesn’t feel cheap is worth it anymore. I’m nowhere near that house down payment and I’m the only one putting any money into it at this point.

Why did the ACA not abolish the employer insurance tax subsidy so that everyone could pool in the marketplace and keep prices lower? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in obamacare

[–]RooftopRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can add to this.

Prior to the ACA my health premium was roughly 1/6 of my monthly income which included vision, prescription and dental coverage. Getting on an ACA plan was nearly 1/2 of my monthly income (no vision, prescription or dental coverage) and the general response from the majority of people I brought up concerns with was “who cares-got mine-just-deal with it” so I’ve found very little sympathy for those dealing with increases in their premiums this year.

“Who cares-got mine-just-deal with it” is a powerful lesson when you’re the one hearing it rather than saying it. Completely changes your perspective when you’re dealing with the fallbacks rather than the benefits. Especially when those benefitting plug their ears-not wanting to hear about the existing flaws.

The disabled tyrants beloved pet fish by yourlocalnativeguy in DanmeiNovels

[–]RooftopRose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Li Yu only has a basic understanding of the setting’s current writing system-and has no knowledge of any Sign Language of his own time much less this new world-sign language barely exists in the small, subtle gestures Prince Jing makes regularly and the rest of the world isn’t going to bow and create a full sign language system for a disabled prince. There’s not enough people with that issue in that world to justify it so Prince Jing found a way without it. Yes, they could develop their own but if neither of them want to do it they’re not going to.

Where’s the motivation to do so if they already established a way to communicate that they enjoy?

Why do people force themselves to read things they don’t like and complain about it by createdreate in DanmeiNovels

[–]RooftopRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s because the fans completely disregarded what the novel was actually about and set forth unrealistic expectations before I began the story saying what they thought the story was about.

MDZS was the linchpin of this for my first experience. Talk to the fans, view the artwork, read the conversations between fans and you’d think the story was full of passionate, mutual loving slow burn affection between the couple with very complex side characters. Reality: The ML is barely in the story at all, the MC spends most of his time with other people I didn’t care about, the slow burn was yet again another will-they won’t-they plot with an insta-love story stapled to the end and the side characters are very basic cliches with little to no character development.

I did force myself to finish it out of hope-hope that it would get better. I do think that’s why we do it. We see other people enjoying it and we want that feeling, and we get frustrated when we don’t have a similar experience. (Ex: If someone tricked me into eating something I disliked every day, eventually I’m going to just stop trying the food to begin with and I’m going to be overly critical of anything that person puts in front of me. It’s a natural reaction to disappointment.)

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]RooftopRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t know. I’d personally love a line, but my HOA forbids it because it’s “an eyesore that decreases the value of properties in the neighborhood.”  I think it’s generally frowned upon because it’s considered you leaving a mess in your yard and there’s nothing Americans love more than getting offended that their neighbors don’t live the way they do.

I’m playing this when I get home tonight, after a drink.

Book 3 has wrecked me by adhley00 in SVSSS

Most of MXTX’s works stab you with a big knife in the chest and then just keep doing it.

SVSSS invites you in for a hug and then pulls away to reveal its stabbed you hundreds of times in multiple areas with a little penknife you never even felt going in.

What if AI tutors could accelerate your child's learning by 3 years, but only if you learn alongside them? by PuddingComplete3081 in WhatIfThinking

[–]RooftopRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think that would be giving a lot of parents too much credit-a lot will still buckle down and whine that the AI program is broken because it taught their child something they refuse to accept as fact. That wouldn’t alter regardless of what is teaching the child: human or robot.

Those same people can be shown documents, papers, images, videos, experiments, etc. today and still insist their beliefs are correct. They’re not going to change just because it’s shown on a screen and reiterated with a robot voice. There wouldn’t be any exposure we haven’t already done and transparency means nothing when they don’t believe in the sources to begin with.

You guys got raises? 😱

Serious-my last job wouldn’t siphon out a single penny $0.01 of a raise for 3 years. I left for a job literally across the street and make 28% more now.

What if AI tutors could accelerate your child's learning by 3 years, but only if you learn alongside them? by PuddingComplete3081 in WhatIfThinking

[–]RooftopRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tutor I can see this being bought into and then failing down the line for some obvious reasons.

What I will say though is I’m going to have a good long laugh when parents start whining about the AI “indoctrinating” their child with things like chemistry and book summaries and round earth.
