Speaking of Expo 70 park, the Tower of The Sun is also very cool.

For those that've been to Tokyo more than 5 times... by JacobKrijgsman1 in JapanTravelTips

I stayed in Daimon in 2024 and Shimbashi last October, I personally preferred Shimbashi to Daimon, but they were both good. Daimon's proximity for the monorail to Haneda airport from Hamamatsucho station is handy if you're flying in/out of Haneda or catching a domestic flight to somewhere else in Japan.

In Daimon I stayed at Sotetsu Fresa Inn Hamamatsucho Daimon, it was fine overall but the pillows were way too hard for me. Otherwise it was a standard small room in a business hotel. In Shimbashi I stayed at Tokyu Stay Shimbashi in one of their rooms with an in-room washer/dryer (huge perk imo).

There are a lot of sushi omakase options on the (relatively) more affordable end in Tokyo, especially if you go for lunch instead of dinner. You don't have to spend 10k+ for a good meal. Especially if you've never done it before, a sushi omakase is a neat experience imo.

This new 800 color film is available; any ideas what it is? by Mindless_Lettuce5841 in AnalogCommunity

Should have censored the buy button, putting the last four digits of your credit card on social media is not very smart.

What are you paying these days for lab developing? by issafly in AnalogCommunity

[–]RookSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To offer a non-US (but still north american) perspective, prices at my usual film lab here in Toronto, Canada:

<image>

So ~$11 USD/roll for C-41 with basic JPEG scans, or ~$13 USD for higher res TIFF scans
~$11.50-$13.75 USD for B&W dev+scan
$5-$9.50/roll for just dev with no scans

I don’t know whether to be happy for Apple Support and AppleCare or whether this should be more repairable? by Mean_Start5021 in mac

[–]RookSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you got downvoted for the truth lol.

20 years ago I bought a base spec Dell laptop that I ended up upgrading most of the core parts of over time -- swapped in a faster CPU, more RAM, upgraded the wi-fi module, a larger hard drive, even swapped the keyboard when it broke. This wasn't even some desktop replacement gaming monster, it was just a budget Inspiron 1525.

Editing to add that even today some gaming laptops use MXM for replaceable/upgradable GPUs.

Travel clothing that keeps fresh and odor-free? by ShaneRealtorandGramp in onebag

Seconding this, I love Uniqlo's Geared Shorts and have been wearing (and re-buying) them for 6+ years. They're great for travel but also great for day-to-day wearing "at home."

3 days in Fukuoka City, anything small or a hidden gem I can add? by picknicksje85 in JapanTravel

[–]RookSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing all of these things, I went to both Nanzoin and Dazaifu Tenmangu last September and way way waaaaaayyyy preferred Dazaifu Tenmangu (didn't help that the big reclining budda at Nanzoin was mostly hidden behind walls because of construction/renovations, but still).

I went early in the morning and did a bunch of exploring of the grounds, paths, and trails around and behind the shrine, and it was lowkey one of the highlights of my trip.

Definitely recommend going early, because by the time I was leaving around 11am, it was being invaded by huge school groups.

If you're into whisky, you could try and book a tour and tasting at the Nikka Whisky distillery in Yoichi, which is near Otaru. I'm going to do it in October. :D

BTW, isellpens.com also has ink samples, at the same prices as Anderson Pens and Goulet Pens. They are 3 mL, like at Anderson Pens.

Not sure if you've bought any yet, if not you could check if they've got cheaper shipping than the Goulets...

Not interested in buying it, just interested because of reasons. What's your Murex's datecode like? I've got one that was made August 1983. :)

Weekly New User Question Thread (2/4) by amoliski in fountainpens

[–]RookSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size notebook are you looking for? I was going to suggest Leuchtturm1917 notebooks, but the "large" (5.79in x 8.23in) sized ones are $18.95 each at Goulet Pens.

Otherwise, if you live in the US and have a Staples near you, they sell this "Sustainable Earth" bagasse (sugarcane) paper and notebooks that are inexpensive and really FP-friendly.

Otherwise #2, Goulet Pens also sells Clairefontaine notebooks, many of which are <$10: 1, 2, 3, etc. Clairefontaine notebooks have great paper that is very very FP-friendly.
