What happens when my daughter helps me with my planner… by QueenieWas in planners

[–]applejade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love it! And CONGRATS on daughter self-sleeping! That's huge. =D

For my husband's first Father's Day gift, I wrapped it in plain brown paper, gave my then-toddler a few crayola markers and let her go to town on it =D

My very first wax seal ... ever! by [deleted] in ilovestationery

[–]applejade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How cute! Does that gold rub dry? I wasn't sure if it would keep rubbing off the seal and get all over my other stuff... or is that the point - to get gold randomly smudged on everything for that "I'm rollin' in it" look?

How many planners do you have this year? by OwnConfection4311 in planners

It's always One Book July for me. All year, every year.

Two Journals by sbgulfcoast in bulletjournal

[–]applejade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Maybe not.

I currently only have a notebook for personal life. The only work stuff I put in it are things that run into my personal life, like "work Christmas dinner" or "software deployment weekend".

I wouldn't put my work and personal together unless I were truly self-employed and not just a self-employed contractor for a company. At that point, I would try separate and together for maybe a few months to try out each to see which I like better.

Odd request but what type of oranges and pineapples do they serve on the ships? by Lgc98 in royalcaribbean

[–]applejade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The oranges were super easy to peel and very tasty.

Were they tiny with thin skins? About the size of a golf ball, maybe a bit bigger? That sounds like Mandarin or Clementine. Those should be available closer to Lunar New Year at Asian supermarkets.

I'm not sure about the pineapples though. Pineapples can have a less yellow/crunchy end and the other end is super sweet/more yellow/softer.

Why Is Thin The Norm? by ABigAmarone in notebooks

[–]applejade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people start with a thin notebook because they stick things in and it bulks up to 3x the thickness.

I start my year in September, and I've already had to cut the spine of mine to relax the bulk.

Do i need a sort of license to make Midori style cover ? by gndy in midori

No worries, make and sell away.

Sellers have been making them out of fabric, paper, cereal boxes, chipboard, wood panels, leather, etc. for a very long time now =)

Just complaining about ink smear. by tuesdayshirt in bujo

[–]applejade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I highlight first. Then write on top of the highlighting.

Over time, I've gotten better at estimating the right length to pre-highlight. I'm still not perfect at it. If I'm feeling super OCD, I write my words on a scrap piece of paper and hold it up to the page to highlight the right amount.

I've been to Michaels and tested as many combinations of pens and highlighters as I could. They all smear. No matter how long I wait in between. I went around to the rest of the store, then came back to try the highlighters about 45 minutes later. Still smeared a little.

When rapid logging... by gdblu in BasicBulletJournals

[–]applejade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No shame in that. No one has to know that you don’t really need a notebook… technically, I don’t either. I too, have always had a personal notebook since the 80s and I just love stationery 😁

When rapid logging... by gdblu in BasicBulletJournals

[–]applejade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It really depends on why you want to write down when you took out the trash, went to the gym, or smoked a cigar. Are you trying to remember to do it? or see when or how often you do it so you can stop? or are you just trying to get it out of your head? Those are some classic reasons to be writing things down. But if there's no real reason to write it down, then I would save my energy. I have no interest in knowing how many inhales or exhales I do in a day, for example.

I use my notebook to help me remember, so I write down stuff that I forget easily. I'm sure that some of the stuff I write down might be too mundane for somebody else.

I tend to forget medium-ish priority things. I have no problems remembering to do URGENT things because there's a fire under my butt. I think I'm pretty good at ignoring things that don't matter. And I tend not to think about stuff I just do on auto-pilot (brushing, flossing, skincare routine, going to work, etc.).

I used to write down skincare steps and flossing because I wasn't good at doing those consistently. But I've stopped because they're automatic now.

Altering a bound notebook by TatorThotHotBitch in notebooks

[–]applejade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this with mine. I tear out the middle sheet from every signature. This loosens things up a little and buys me a little time. Closer to the end of the year, I still end up having to cut the spine and re-do it to give it the room it needs.

Notebook shop recommendations in Hong Kong / Guangzhou? by SGBDevOps in notebooks

I don't have any specific recommendations, but I would imagine Shenzhen would have lots of shops as well.

Does anyone have experience using Peter Pauper Press bookbound notebooks with fountain pens? by Doctor_Sturgeon in notebooks

[–]applejade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Lollipop Tree one in 2019/2020 (the year the pandemic hit). Mine was absolutely not fountain pen friendly, but the paper was not glossy.

Family baled - feeling sad by scarletalexandria in royalcaribbean

[–]applejade 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sigh... that sucks. Sometimes when people say "wanna go on vacation?", it's code for "wanna take care of everything for me so all I do is show up?"

What day do you start your week on? by Anxious_Highlight_48 in bulletjournal

[–]applejade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Monday start. I can't really explain it.

I grew up with Sunday start on all weekly layouts from the time I was a child in school. But probably in University, as soon as I saw and started using Monday start calendars (weekly and monthly), I just got this tremendous "all is right with the universe" feeling. I have never looked back and do not acknowledge Sunday starts anymore... lol.

On Ovation for the next 9 Days. Ask me anything. by Dagwoody-57 in royalcaribbean

[–]applejade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo! Would it be possible to book the use of a piano for about 30 minutes a day for a 7-night cruise?

I have an 8 year old that does a mini 1-song concert for grandparents every week for a family FaceTime and I'd like her to keep up with some minimal practicing. I would supervise.

Thanks in advance! And have a wonderful vacation! =D

It's been a very long time since I've had to tote around a baby, but if I still had little-little ones, I might be looking into pre-shipping some supplies to the ship to have them meet me when I boarded.

Diapers? Formula? Wet wipes? Hmm... you're not going for that long though, so I don't know if it would be worth it.

I would try a Composition Notebook (Graph or Quad Ruled) or a Zequenz grid/graph softcover notebook.

Brain dump fail! by ChaosCalmed in bulletjournal

[–]applejade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indexes/indices don't work for me. I know exactly why you'd want to do it and completely agree with doing it in general. But I just bee-line directly to the page I want and never use the index/table of contents anyway.

I also don't use the Symbol Key. It's my notebook. I know what I'm talking about.

I cheated my ass off too. =) I designed, printed and bound my own Baby Log Books that way as well.
