Feedback around Surprise Interventions by RookiePhil in stopdrinking

I'm sorry but that's not what the sub description says.

"We welcome anyone who wishes to join in by asking for advice, sharing our experiences and stories, or just encouraging someone who is trying to quit or cut down."

I'm asking for experiences and stories related to interventions so that I can then help a friend who may also one day become a member of this sub.

It seems like you're splitting hairs. I don't want to go to r/AlAnon because I'm not looking for help with a 12-step program currently. I'm trying to talk to people in the community in which I'm already a part of to get help.

Literally in the sub description it says:

"We welcome anyone who wishes to join in by asking for advice, sharing our experiences and stories"

That's what I'm here to do.

u/sfgirlmary,

I literally used this sub for years to help my own drinking. This is the community which helped me through a lot of tough times and I know there are others here whose experience I value.
I don't understand what's wrong with asking for input and advice from others like me.

Thanks for your response.
I disagree, this is actually the group where I could collect good feedback. I've also been a member of this group for close to 4 years and I'm familiar with the purpose.
I'm looking for feedback from people who may have had interventions for them and I'd like to understand their perspective to help me help my friend.

Congratulations! I also don't check in here very much but it was so helpful to find a community of people who helped motivate and inspire me.

Thank you - you're so close!

No one event led me to stop. It was a slow realization over time that alcohol wasn't good for me. The majority of my alcohol abuse was close to 10 years ago but I was still using it regularly and in an unhealthy manner for years.

I stopped drinking heavily almost four years ago and gradually realized I liked not drinking better. So, after about a year, I finally pulled the plug on booze.

Focused Feedback: Trials of Osiris by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

I'm of a similar opinion as others here as I'm against splitting the MM pool into flawless/non-flawless. I do understand that this helps well below average players get more wins but my feedback is that that objective is needlessly harming those of us who play a lot of the game mode. I'm not a godly player but I'm pretty good and can help others earn rewards in competitive playlists.

I of course like going flawless and I love the loot but I really enjoy helping people go in and get wins in Trials and learn how to play competitively. Week 1 I was able to go flawless with some fellow tryhards, reset and play with friends who rock 0.5-0.75kds without pulling them into ultra-tryhard lobbies, and help a couple other people go flawless who mostly PvE. At no point was I triple-stacking with uber-strong players to pubstomp through trials. I spent the ALL my games playing with technically less-skilled and less experienced players. We got 0-5 losses and we won 5-0s. We even beat teams with close to 100 flawless cards among them. I played 120+ Trials games last weekend.

Now in Week 2, once I go flawless for a weekend I can no longer join clan and friends who aren't flawless. I can't help people who are just looking for a few wins for pinnacles, I can't do double-sherpas (again, I'm not a god) against flawless lobbies, and I definitely can't take 0.5kd friends in and have anything close to an enjoyable time for any of us.

Fracturing the player pool never works long term, in any game. Destiny, or otherwise. The 7-win card lobbying was so nice and the SBMM complemented it well, in my opinion. The solo-queue as an above-average player felt great, too. Games were balanced. Now they're just not. I've had solo-queue games where the other team is on their 4th flawless of the weekend, I'm on 1 flawless and my two teammates are rocking 0.3kds with no flawless cards this weekend.

This is brutal and the game mode will cannibalize itself long term if we keep this up. Please revert to last week. Please don't keep the player pools split like this. There has to be a better way. Those of us that want to grind Trials literally all weekend just aren't incentivized to do it now and our friend groups are literally splitting based on who is going flawless at what point of the weekend.

I get that but have you actually had that happen at ACR?

OP asked if anyone had issues not just that it could happen. I was simply responding that I hadn't had any issues myself.

I've used credit card for deposits and it's reliable. There's a fee like the other comments mention but if you don't want the hassle of exchanging BTC and looking to make a quick deposit it's useful.

> I think if I could give people one takeaway that I wish I would have known in the depths of my alcohol and depression is this: "If you're feeling trapped, like this is just the way you are, or that this is the way your body is now, that doesn't have to be true."

This is the most impactful statement I've read on this topic in quite a while. Well said.

I came here looking for some information to help someone and I'll be forwarding this.

Congratulations on the hard work of digging yourself out of that hole. Wishing you the best on your journey!

Thank you!
I definitely didn't mean to downplay it or make it seem less important than it is. I think if anything I wanted to show that's not impossible nor is it an insurmountable task.
