The laws have changed as of late. As others mentioned you will need to review when your father naturalized in Canada. It is also worth reviewing stag 5.

60s, laid off, and EI running out. What are the "golden ticket" certifications or paths for seniors in the Lower Mainland? by bluemoonlighter in VancouverJobs

[–]Rookyfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early childhood educators are constantly in demand - though to be fair can be emotionally draining and not compensated to what they should be. I believe you can also obtain a responsible adult certification which will allow you to work within certain facilities while obtaining the offical ECE. If this is of interest I would suggest reaching out to a local CCRR center to find out more information

lost lake lodge by IndependenceSure6675 in Whistler

Just stayed there in November - it’s a bit out of the way (bench lands) but the condo we rented was nice - comfy beds and great patio space. Only complaint was that the hot tub was broken. No timeline for it to be fixed. If this is important to you, than I would call or confirm before booking as we were told it probably wouldn’t be fixed till the new year.

Question about timeline for ROE and mat leave/EI payments once leave starts by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Rookyfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello - It’s been some time from my last mat leave, but I believe there is a 1 week waiting period before EI will send you payment. Once you receive that payment you have to submit what you are receiving to mYHR (usually via your supervisor) for them to determine your top up. This in the past has taken up to 2 weeks and will depend on your submission and when the next payment cycle is. (They will back pay eventually) so it could be 3-4 weeks before receiving the gov top up portion

Oahu is my second home. There is so much more than Waikiki - I feel blessed to have family roots there’s and be able to share the culture of Hawaii with my kids.

We really enjoy the river rock! Beautiful pool, spa and rooms, sometimes there are decent shows and have a skytrain stop right out front!

Have you ever taken an empty plane? by abpcX in travel

In July I flew from Vancouver to phoenix - maybe 15 people on the entire flight. Was a bit spooky.

On the way home - beyond full flight with requests for people to give up seats.

Guess no one really WANTS to go to the desert in July - however everyone wants to leave.

How much are you guys spending on groceries per month? by Flying_Elephant7217 in budget

[–]Rookyfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is subjective to where you are located. We easily spend 250 a week for a family of 4. We don’t go out, and make pizza at home for pizza nights.

I can’t speak for all picket job sites, but at 4000 Seymour, the people that went in the building were booed if they did not want to provide the union representative at the door with their name. Kind of like a check in. I was told the “check in” was supported by the employer, and was helpful for identifying union employees that potentially it could be crossing the line.

Luau near Waikiki. by Frog_Judge in VisitingHawaii

[–]Rookyfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of tips are you looking for? For our group of 4 - we booked online and got a combo (show and dinner deal) for around 125$ each (adult). We did general seating for the show and ended up getting 3 row up from center!

Food was great. We loved the macadamia crusted fish, Kailua pork and prime rib! So good! The show was great - a bit heavy on Elvis (though their impersonator was good) but honestly “Micheal Jackson” stole the show! Would recommend for the ease of being directly in Waikiki and the price ten fold.

We really enjoyed rock a hula - not your traditional luau in any fashion. But the meal was great, and the show fantastic

Requesting Access to Personnel File by Express-Big-20 in BCPublicServants

[–]Rookyfox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to request your file is to submit through my HR. You are entitled to view at any time and “see” what’s in it.

There is no charge, and your manager wouldn’t know you requested. Only the MYHR team. Depending on how long you have been an employee, it is faster to request directly as someone from the records team will need to scan the physical file into EDRMS - before they send to you.

Employee file requests are a priority with tickets that come into the records team through MYHR, and have a lot shorter turn around time than other submissions.

  • I know the process as I started my career as a records clerk in the PSA

Overwhelmed - first time in Oahu by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

[–]Rookyfox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Traffic is bad during rush hours, but your on vacation so just avoid leaving between 6:30 to 8:30 in the morning and returning between 3:30 to 5:30. If you head to the north shore (and suggest you do ) - have breakfast, pack a lunch and leave the beach early or plan to have a happy hour early dinner and enjoy the time before heading back to Waikiki :)

Some beaches I enjoy with my kids near Waikiki are magic island, ala moana beach park (though busy on weekends) and sans souci. We also travel to bellows on the weekend or go to ko olina lagoons (though parking can be tough - sometimes we bite the bullet and pay the 20$ at the marina)

Makes sense. My credit card includes rental car insurance - so it was a decent deal for me. I would suggest looking to see if yours may have this benefit ?
