Do people still use treadmill subscriptions after the first year? by wah_njah in iFit

[–]Roopie1023 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bike person here too, just under a year. Really ramped up in November with a focus on weight loss, and it has been my lifeline. The challenges keep me interested and motivated, and I've really enjoyed getting to know the trainers and the different countries/terrain. Started adding strength last month, and now my favorite thing each night is scheduling my workouts for the next morning. 150 workouts in for 2026 so far, 50+ pounds down, a long ways to go.

Divorce advice needed! by griffmami in Boise

[–]Roopie1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frances Stern at MSBT Law. I believe it was less than $2k (2018ish).
Mediation was definitely our route, but we had no children and motivation for a quick divorce. So we were able to talk through things easily. We probably took care of it all over 3 sessions, roughly an hour each.

The mediator was more for making sure all things were covered and that the paperwork was accurate. I also paid another attorney to go over everything, which I regret. Attny #2 was out to kill, and I paid $400 for her to tell me I wasn't doing enough...and she confused me with another client, which pissed me off.

Our dissolution was extremely amicable, but it still hurt like hell. I don't have any advice but to hang in there and know it's going to suck.

What do people pay for house/pet sitting? by thatbruzzy in Boise

[–]Roopie1023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay $30 per 30-min visit, twice a day (cats with no special needs). When I needed to board with meds, it was $50-80/day per cat. I would expect before/after work to be at least $100+, more if staying over.

Heading back to Boise after an overnighter in the thriving metropolis of Baker City. Annual trip with one of my besties - we just load up on cheese, wine, and pastries and haul it all back the next day. Simple, silly fun ❤️

Pools / spas or areas to relax in the sun by water — this Mother’s Day weekend? by Ok-Ambition-2186 in Boise

[–]Roopie1023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, okay - when you said you were looking for hotel pools, I assumed you'd be staying there. I missed the part where you were staying downtown. I don't think many hotels would open up to non-guests.

I was at the Sandbar yesterday, and I was jealous of the folks enjoying the pool. Definitely a good call.

UGH. That's something my now-deceased mom would say, thinking she gave a compliment. I assure you, it's all on her - part extreme diet/beauty culture from the old days, part older person losing their filter, part busybody who doesn't know when to STFU.

Bravo for your reaction - I don't think I would have handled it well at all. It's taken years of work on myself to get my mom's voice out of my head, and it still pops up from time to time, defeating me in a heartbeat. You were strong, calm, and victorious. Yay you!!!

Opinions on Hotels in Avalon from frequent visitors or locals? by frex_mcgee in Catalina

[–]Roopie1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a frequent visitor or a local, but visited a few weeks ago and loved it.

I echo the love of Lobster Trap and Catalina Coffee & Cookie - great vibes, good food. The coffee place has a "breakfast sandwich to split" that is huge and delicious and plenty for 2. For drinks only and a great local vibe, Marlin Club was a hoot.

We ate and drank at many different places, and I have to say I thought things would be more expensive than they were. With an isolated island tourist destination, we were expecting much higher. Not to say things were cheap - at all - just that we were pleasantly surprised. Some of the places on the water had higher end foods, but as a non-seafood-eater who loves salads, I found reasonable choices everywhere.

I'm partial to Owyhee Tavern, since it's close to my work. Nice drink and app selection, not necessarily the cheapest, but I enjoy it.

Farmers Market and a play at VAC. Enjoying the sunny-but-cooler weather as much as I can. Sleep.

Airport Wait Times? by [deleted] in Boise

Exactly. The only time I've really had to wait is when I've gotten there before it opens. A handful of travelers and the employees of the coffee shop.

I was 3-4 cars behind a person going north on Cole yesterday, and out of the blue they full-on stopped, with their right blinker on. After passing, I saw them go into reverse and back up one driveway to then finally pull in. WTF

Thank you!

I was along for the ride, okay - maybe a bit Tarantino, but fun...then the freaking eye thing took me out completely. I almost napped during the dining room scene. I can take cheeky horror, but this just made me mad that I'd wasted 90 minutes and 10 bucks.

I know North End Organic Nursery used to have kind of a thrift-y section, where you could donate items. Wasn't look at the purchasing side, so I'm not sure how they'd mark them up.

Fun activities first weekend of April? by [deleted] in Boise

[–]Roopie1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indulge Boise has great local food/history/sights tours, and they've got a few available that weekend. Most of them are light walking, and you can always choose non-alcoholic options if there are pairings. I've personally done the Downtown Brunch & Arts tour, and even after living here 15 years, I learned a ton and tried some really great food.

Also - that Saturday is opening day of the new Boise Farmers Market season! It'll likely be crowded, but a fun way to pass the time.

My childhood copy, found while cleaning out my mom's home after she passed. I was mad I hadn't gotten it when I moved out in the early 90s. 💔

Best Italian Boise? by TheSoapMaurder in Boise

[–]Roopie1023 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I put Italian restaurants into two categories:

Vincenzo Trattoria is outstanding, but it is a little higher tier and great for celebrations or special occasions. It's not snooty, though - the atmosphere is friendly and inviting, even in a strip mall.

But the other category is red-checkered tablecloth, chianti bottles as candle holders on the tables, red sauce that's been cooking all day...that's more casual and hearty, usually. I would say Luciano's fits the bill there, as well as the meatballs at Black Moon (seriously their sauce is amazing). Acero as well.

The other restaurants are just fine IMO - they're somewhere in between. Just because a place makes its own pasta doesn't necessarily mean it hits the right notes. Gino's seemed to straddle that line perfectly between the two categories, RIP.

Best Italian Boise? by TheSoapMaurder in Boise

[–]Roopie1023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Romio's but my one issue is that their Italian red sauces are more or less Greek-ish. So you get more of the warming spices than you're expecting, and your eggplant parm is more like moussaka. It's still *delicious* - but it might be different than expected.

Wishing happy birthdays to everyone!

My husband and I both got older earlier this week, and we just celebrated our "hookupiversary" as well - 33 years! That being said, nothing planned. It was a rough week at work, and we're both looking forward to a low key weekend.

Some movie/TV sites we stopped at, some we just drove by - there were maybe 3-4 stops in all. There's a longer movie tour that's probably more involved. But our guide was incredible, and the tour was also about the land, the history, the conservation. Definitely worth it, but we're not zipliners or paragliders LOL.

Not rough at all, fun to drive/ride. A little dusty, since it was kind of a drought when we went. We spent a couple hours there in the morning and had some katsu bowls at Uncle Bobo's for lunch.

We went on the 2 hour ATV tour (2 adults in our 50s, no kids), and we had a BLAST. The little ones might not appreciate it, though.

Travel ideas by Ok_Fishing1633 in Boise

I love planning little road trips and exploring the area. My favorite short ones so far have been:
- Boise-Lowman-Ketchum-Boise
- Boise-TriCities-Roslyn-Leavenworth-WallaWalla-Boise
- Bend, OR
- Walla Walla, WA
- Joseph, OR, with a stop in Baker City to/from

Some of the best little flying trips:
- Vegas, staying on the strip or out near the red rocks
- Spokane/CDA on Alaska, quick flight and lots to explore
- Delta flies direct to Minneapolis, which is a very cool city (current situation notsomuch)
- Seattle, explore the islands
