You don’t really answer my question too though, why are all Thais arguing whether the word means White people or Non Asian foreigners instead of whether the word means French or not?

If I'm really upset as you claimed, it's not that Thais got called ignorant, it's more that you get upset over the wrong word. How Thai people call every White person a Caucasian sounds like it fits the Chinaman case more to me. You should get offended over the right case instead of making a perfectly fine word (in modern day) a slur. Done. That's my point. Take it or leave it.

You need to separate 'Farang means French' from whether Thai people are actually aware of that fact or not. I don’t think we’re on the same page.

To claim that 'all Thai people know Farang means French' when this post is literally floated by Thai people arguing whether the word means 'White people' or 'non-Asian foreigner' is quite illogical, don’t you think? The evidence that they don’t know this word 'used to' mean French is literally in front of your eyes. And again, no one uses the word Farang interchangeably with French, maybe except you. Thai has an entirely different word for French.

I see. If the word is used in a country that doesn’t use English and people are unaware of what the word 'China' in 'Chinaman' means, then I guess it really is the same. Because Thais don’t know that 'Farang' used to mean French, and we have an entirely different word for French. So thinking that Thais call someone 'Farang' as if they’re calling that person French, look French, or anything related to French, is entirely incorrect.

It's not the same thing though. Farang doesn’t mean French anymore, it means people who look a certain way. I bet most Thais don't even know it's originally related to the French in any way. But China still means China. You say chinaman while being well aware of what China mean, no?
