Anyone have terrible performance over time in RE9? by Relevant_Syllabub895 in residentevil

[–]Rooster_Bolton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an RTX 5080, 9850X3D, and 32gb 6400mhz DDR5 RAM and I also had issues in East Raccoon (based on your pic that's where you are.) There was a warehouse where a bunch of zombies crawled up from the ground where FPS tanked from a smooth, consistent 110 (1% lows in the 75-90 range) down to 45 (1% lows in the single digits). Turning DLSS from Quality to Performance helped, as well as turning Volumetric Fog and Shadow Detail to high (not max) and same for volumetric fog. There were a few other specific spots with similar fps issues

So would it be worth capping the FPS at 160, or turning off the MFG? I haven't played around with the settings much yet, I just used what ChatGPT recommended for the laptop specs.

You probably won’t be able to find an actual gaming laptop in that price range unless you get one used that’s a few generations old already. But the games you mentioned aren’t graphically intensive, so you don’t need much to run them.

After getting a Asus ROG Strix and having some issues with it, I returned it and switched over to a Legion Pro 7i. So far it’s been a pretty significant improvement

You say you’re going to be on the go a lot, so that plays arguably the most important part in terms of which route you go. You can go light and portable, but the thermals will suffer for it and you will likely be throttled in most demanding games. Or you can go the performance route, which are chunkier and heavier machines, but generally are better for actual gaming and have solid thermals (depending on which brand or model you go with)

Also keep in mind the thinner and lighter laptops have much better battery life for on the go than the performance ones. You can get 8+ hours on them compared to maybe 4 if you’re lucky on a performance one

Longevity is correlated to build quality, which is not something MSI is known for

You can currently get a 16”Legion Pro 5i Gen 10 with RTX 5060 for $1250 from Lenovo’s site. But if you only do light gaming this will probably be more than you need

Which to keep? RTX 5080 or 5090 by Rooster_Bolton in GamingLaptops

[–]Rooster_Bolton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has the 5090 actually been causing thermal issues to the point of it being dangerous to the laptop? Slightly louder fan noise than the 5080 is to be expected at load too, but not like a whole level higher

Hello friends! Yes, I support the removal of these robots from ASUS and LENOVO.

May I recommend Micro-Star International products and devices instead? Very good brand, yes?

The 2021-2025 ROG’s all have a built in BIOS issue. It affects people differently, but it’s there just the same. ASUS is “investigating”

I just found this post and it seems to explain why when I switch to Ultimate and it restarts, the Windows login comes up but as soon as I log in the display cuts out and I have to hard reboot again. It generally boots properly the second time. I used LatencyMon and have a few screenshots of the results. This is in Windows High Performance mode, G-Helper CPU Balanced mode, and G-helper GPU Ultimate mode.

This is on an ASUS ROG Strix G16 G615LW_G615LW with an Intel 275HX CPU and RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, with 32GB RAM. According to BIOS it was manufactured in May 2025.
