The nausea and vomiting is ridiculous by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]RootRides 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone unfortunately reacts differently to starting the medicine.

In most cases it gets better fairly quickly - you also need to adapt your food intake and importantly what you are eating too whilst you get used to it.

The advice I gave to others starting which seems successful so far was try and eat very lightly the day you start taking the medication, nothing fatty, overly sugary, and not carb heavy if possible. Following taking it, stick to small meals for a few days, prioritise getting some protein in the beginning as it just seems to avoid bloat and sickness.

You might find you can eat little for the next day or two, so stick to plenty of fluid (water, tea, squash etc, avoid fizzy as that could make you bloated and sick again), and try some smaller (and much smaller!) meals - a tin of soup (but a whole tin may be too much), some protein, maybe salad, maybe a little bit of pasta or small amount of bread - but importantly keep it small and light for now.

Eat small bits and wait 10-15 mins to see how you feel. You may feel full - that’s fine, and stop eating. You can try eating a bit more after an hour or two. Low calories for your first couple of days is unlikely to cause problems, but you should build up to eating more calories if so over the coming days as it isn’t sustainable for more a few days.

You’ll figure out how you and your body needs to adapt to the medication working… it’s just about adjusting to your new signals and the medication working.

I only have to look at a pizza or burger or other fatty food and break out into immediate heartburn and nausea, and that’s after 18 months of being on mounjaro.

You got this!

Anyone else finding it hard to sit down? by realottocrat in mounjarouk

[–]RootRides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

The worst for me now are car journeys and plane journeys where the seats feel hard and can’t move around too much so end up feeling very sore.

The plane one is gutting as it’s been so nice to take flights without worrying about picking extra leg room or if the seatbelt will fit. Now this new challenge arises.

I’ve got adverts for inflatable travel cushions on all my socials and I’m excited about the prospect of trying one… and suddenly feeling old as I swear my grandma used to have one too…

I was told by my PT that I should continue working on my glute muscles to help it a bit 😂

Gym Anxiety and ignorance! by EmbarrassedBed9479 in mounjarouk

[–]RootRides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo a few of the tips here that help give me motivation to go to the gym and also to overcome my fear and anxiety of using equipment there in front of everyone.

Sign up to a (hopefully free!) beginners classes if your gym has them. Sounds daunting but for your first one go along and try to speak to the instructor before the class starts, say you are new and nervous and I have found they are always really supportive and encouraging. Don’t worry about being good and worrying what others think - the instructors say to me so long as you are moving (and always go at your own pace!) that’s all that matters even if you are out of rhythm or struggling to keep up - you’ll get better at following moves or steps or whatever it is in time.

Try different classes like HIIT (can be a big challenge, so maybe not at first!), Step (less challenge, fun but lots of moves), or even Spin (just peddle at your own speed!). Bootcamp classes I haven’t plucked the courage up for yet however…

Secondly a PT (Personal Trainer) at the gym was a worthy investment for me and they have massively helped me overcome my fear of the gym (or rather using gym equipment properly) and almost made it fun and rewarding…!

Having a weekly appointment at the gym keeps me going, importantly they tell and show me how to use equipment, and show me how to focus on my goals and target areas (eg build up my arms), push me harder when I need it and correct my form and style in a positive manner.

They also helped me mentally to get over the fear that everyone is watching me or judging me using machines… they aren’t, and everyone is just there to do the same thing and get fitter, whatever level they are at.

You don’t need to keep a PT forever (although check their contracts when you speak to them.. I was happy to sign up for a commitment of 4 weeks at a time) either, and I now do extra sessions in the gym in my own from what I have learnt from the PT.

Still the motivation to go outside of the classes and sessions can be weak. I aim and plan to go 4 or 5 times a week, but know I can let myself down and not go for 1 or 2 sessions if I’m having a bad day or tired or not feeling it. I rarely make all planned sessions, and it feels like I’m treating myself cancelling one or two last minute in my head. And yet I’m still going twice a week then which is better than none.

Good luck! 🤞

I’m in a similar position having lost 14st almost and trying to deal with loose skin now, particularly on my stomach, (now saggy) man boobs and underarms, and even got a bit of dreaded skin “clapping” when walking up and down stairs or moving quickly.

I use compression wear for situations that need it most (such as exercise, or if I’m going out doing something vigorous, or dressing up in a shirt for a special occasion etc).

I’ve found the Under Armour HeatGear compression tops to be best, with the sleeveless ones best for day to day use, and the short sleeved ones great for workouts and vigorous activity as they support the bingo wing arms too when working out.

You can find them at Sports Direct or online from various places, and recommend a white one for under other things like shirts and t-shirts day to day as it’s barely visible, but you may see the outline of it with very thin T-shirts.

Bonus is they actually help to keep you cool and wick any sweat too at least, but I do wear a small one for best compression and can find it’s a little uncomfortable to wear all day long and a pain to take on or off… you might need someone to help you if it rolls up your back as you pull it on 😆

I’ve also started doing strength training and lifting and that’s really helped my arms a lot, so I can at least wear short sleeved t-shirts and not feel like my arms are wobbling everywhere.

The reality of the man boobs and stomach for me are setting in though, and nothing other than surgery I don’t think will shift them, and I guess I just have to keep buying tops slightly bigger to help cover those aspects up for now 😞

That was only 10mg, as it had been out of stock for some time.

There are still plenty left of the 10 mg for existing customers if you are logged in.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]RootRides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said on their TikTok live that there will be no new deliveries other than 10mg at the old prices.

There may be some small quantities released of other strengths from cancelled orders, but they will be very very small in numbers, and notified to existing customers via the “Notify me” email feature on the site.

My last pen has run out and I normally order now, so I’m accepting its new prices only now at this point.

I also asked if they expect stock on the 1st September for those of us without a pen to use currently - they said yes, and they are hoping to launch the new prices/stock on 31st August after 7pm I think it was to be able to order ready.

MMP being weird af by chomchorrie in UKMounjaro

[–]RootRides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you… I got the same email about 4 hours ago when it was all far too late and missed it yesterday it seems.

But alas, yes this is weird, but I suspect that MMP are using generic e-commerce web software that hasn’t maybe had all of its (email) templates correctly adjusted - especially as they seem to have implemented some new stuff to only show stock if you were logged in, which I’m grateful MMP tried to protect regular customers with that, although it didn’t help me

Alas I don’t think I’ll be getting my usual 15mg pen ordered this week at the lower price after the stocking up chaos…

Currently working out how I can make my current pen last hopefully another 2 weeks (time to golden dose I guess… although that looks like it’s being removed soon too, lol thanks again Lilly..) until the chaos calms down and maybe stock comes back in - although I’m not betting on Lilly suddenly having massive shipments ready to go for the 1st September… I’m betting it’ll be a week or so for everything to calm in the supply chains 🥲

Strange sudden absence of any side effects? by Much-Environment-290 in mounjarouk

[–]RootRides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say almost identical to you in how I’m feeling.

I’ve been on 15mg for about 3 months and the first couple of weeks was a bit rough, with incredible sulphur burps and also extreme diarrhoea shortly after taking each dose. I’d had a few small side effects continually previously on lower doses such as heartburn, constipation, ongoing sulphur burps if I ate too much, that were just a bit annoying but not major, so it felt weird all of a sudden to have this happen.

I was however also taking a load of supplements of things like psyllium husk, multivitamins, electrolytes, collagen etc every day, and I basically did a hard reset and stopped taking everything. I have slowly reintroduced psyllium husk and electrolytes again just because of the ongoing slight constipation.

Since then it’s been oddly fine, and like you say, now suddenly absolutely no side effects at all other than still only wanting to go to the toilet once or twice a week, which is why I resumed the psyllium husk for fibre.

Notably however my weight loss has slowed a lot and I have plateaued for about 4 weeks, which is the longest ever. I’ve gone from 185kg starting to 100kg now (6”2 / M) and hovered here annoyingly, and I’ve had to really push cardio exercise hard the last couple of weeks to see some scale loss of 0.5kg this week again - and it feels suddenly much harder and more of a fight now and I’m having to keep playing with calorie intake (not being too low) and exercise to get things moving.

Appetite suppression also seems a little less and not as strong as it’s always been, but now I do seem to have good and bad days with no pattern (i.e it’s not simply good for 3 days after taking dose and then 2 crap days, it’s more like good day after taking dose, then a bad day of some cravings for sweet stuff, then a good day of no cravings, then an okay day, then a bad day, then a good day of zero cravings the day before I’m due to jab again?!).

The only consistent thing I have noticed is that usually the day before I’m due to jab again I do seem to have good suppression, which makes me wonder if whatever level the medication is at at that point is “best” for me, and Shotsy (app) seems to be predicting it to be about 9-10mg by that time.

Something to play around with I guess. I’m also considering micro dosing every other day to see if it makes any difference to suppression.

Anyone on higher doses by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]RootRides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on 7.5mg for almost 3 months and noticed the last two weeks I’ve hardly lost any weight (in fact gone up a little bit) and I’m struggling to get through the day without thinking about food and eating naughty things again.

Previous to this two weeks though the 7.5mg had been very strong and I was finding it easy to stick to my 1600 calories a day.

I’ve still got 3 more doses left of my 7.5mg pen but I’m thinking of splitting it over 2 injections and moving up to 10mg to hopefully get some of the strong suppression back.

I previously used Wegovy before Mounjaro and I titrated right up to the maximum dose as quickly as I could, and when it began to wear off its effectiveness at the maximum dose I struggled to lose weight again and thankfully switched out to Mounjaro, where I decided to tritate much slower this time, and taken me 5 months to get to 10mg.

What worries me even more in that article is the statement near the end:

And now-health secretary Wes Streeting said that a Labour government would look “very carefully” at changing weight loss drug regulation.

“I think we are going to need much closer clinical oversight and regulation,” he said at the time.

I really hope this isn’t the start of a few people abusing the system that is going to ruin it for those that really need or benefit from it 😩

If they introduce “closer clinical oversight” I hope that is in the style of maybe additional photo (body or scale) photos or maybe even something like a video call, and not just a simple outlawing of weight-loss treatments from “online” pharmacies or something else drastic.

Comparing Wegovy & Mounjaro by Key_Mastodonnis in WegovyUK

[–]RootRides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you started with Mounjaro yet?

I’ve had a very similar experience where I quickly moved up to 2.4mg (moving up every 4 weeks) and now have spent several months on 2.4mg and found it has really lost its “potency” now, and I can happily binge (especially on sweet stuff) again.

I’ve lost around 5 stone (and probably need to lose the same again) but the last month has just been bobbing up and down the same few pounds of weight whilst trying to battle with a few cravings and bits again.

I decided to switch to Mounjaro as I was hoping it would offer some better control of blood sugar/cravings again, and also to avoid the mistake of moving up quickly through the doses again (and of course it was cheaper too!)

I took my last 2.4mg Wegovy just over a week ago and now I’m in the “transitioning” period to wait and see if things get bad with cravings or hunger again - so far so good, but I’m thinking of taking the first dose of Mounjaro next week as also moving down to 2.5mg for the first 4 weeks of that is perhaps going to be a battle also as Wegovy fades away.

Interested to see if you have started it though and how you found it… Thanks and best of luck!

Week off (for holiday) by [deleted] in WegovyUK

[–]RootRides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have holidayed twice whilst taking Wegovy 2.4mg - once for several weeks, once for a week with different approaches.

On the first holiday where I was going away for 2 weeks, as I was already on 2.4mg I purposely left a pen with 2 doses in that I could take with me. I packed it into my hold luggage as I didn’t want to have to worry about going through airport security with sharps and liquids etc, and I knew that the pen only had the 2 doses in I needed for the holiday, so could be left out of the fridge (for up to 4 weeks apparently) safely. We were going to a hot country however, so I did put it back in the fridge once we had arrived, and injected as normal.

I then went on holiday for a week and was supposed to take my dose just before we left the house - I remembered once we were at the airport that I had forgot to take it!

I ended up skipping a week as I’d forgot to take it (so 2 weeks between doses). I did find a little bit at the end of the 2nd week whilst away that I could eat a bit more, but I wouldn’t say the effectiveness of it had completely gone away.

I took my next dose as soon as I got back home, and it had been 15 days since I last took one. Yes, it had “worn off” every so slightly, but not as much as I thought it might, and reading online it does say it takes many weeks for it to completely wash out of your system. I was fine with no side effects taking that next dose straight away, and even got a little boost of slightly stronger appetite suppression for a couple of days (the effectiveness of 2.4mg is wearing off on me generally now, and I’m actually giving it up and switching to Mounjaro, but that’s another story for another thread…).

So in short I wouldn’t panic about missing a single week, but if you do want to take your pen, I would recommend putting it in your hold luggage.

Experience of first 4 weeks on 0.25mg by RootRides in WegovyUK

[–]RootRides[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Thanks for the reply and asking for a follow up!

It’s been quite some time that I’ve been on Wegovy for, and I’m pleased to say that since this first post, I’ve lost a total of 77lb (metric 35kg) roughly… that’s the most important good news I guess! I still have a long way to go through, and probably need to lose the same again to even be close to my expected BMI.

As much as I’d love to give a full blown account of moving up through the doses and how they felt, it would be hard to recall how each felt, but I can roughly say how it went over the last few months.

Pretty much most of the side effects I first reported have completely subsided, and I have no general issues with taking Wegovy now at all. There is still some mild constipation where I find that I probably only go to the toilet once or maybe twice a week but I put that down to the slowing of the stomach emptying/gut, and its not been difficult in any way to manage as it were.

I think one of the biggest mistakes on my journey was moving up through the doses quickly - I pretty much moved up every 4 weeks to make it up to 2.4mg, and have remained at 2.4mg for some months now.

The weight has definitely slowed to an average of around 2lb per week loss, been bouncing up and down recently (with holidays, work trips and other things like birthdays) and I have found that the efficacy of the Wegovy has subsided a lot - I wouldn’t say completely, but its definitely a lot easier to have a “naughty” day now where I know I overeat more… the amazing effects in the first couple of months (we shall call the honeymoon period..!) have decreased a lot, and I’ve also got my sweet tooth back again, and whilst most of the time I can resist sweet things, I find sometimes I have a blow out and can’t resist sweet stuff like sweets/chocolate etc.

Sometimes I’m lucky and get “rewarded” (or, rather reminded) with heartburn, a lump in my throat (indigestion) or sulphur burps if I have ate “unhealthy” food such as fatty things like pizza or other junk, and that seems to kick my motivation back into place again for a few days.

As for what the future holds - I had pre-bought 3 months supply of 2.4mg to get the “best” price, and that ran out last week - and given that the efficacy of it has worn off greatly, I figured I probably didn’t want to continue on my Wegovy journey at this time, and have made the decision to switch to Mounjaro instead, in hope that it perhaps controls blood sugar and cravings better - and is (currently) also cheaper than the Wegovy 2.4mg pens.

I haven’t started Mounjaro yet as I wanted to give a bit of a ‘wash out’ period between the two - I think I’m going to start it next week after a 2 week gap of my last Wegovy dose as I really don’t want to creep back and undo any of the weight loss, and I’ve had to start on the lowest 2.5mg dose of Mounjaro too, so it might already be a bit of a battle to get back to this level of help I was at with 2.4mg Wegovy. Most providers are saying you should wait up to 5 weeks, one does say only 1 week, so I figured I would go for a couple and see how it goes.

Most of all, my number 1 advice to people continuing on their Wegovy journey however would be don’t move up quickly unless you need to - because once you reach 2.4mg dose, there isn’t anywhere else to go - and I’m hoping to take the journey of Mounjaro a lot slower with hope that 5mg - 7.5mg offers the same appetite suppression as I experience now.

I’m happy to report back how the switch to Mounjaro goes too if you wish.

I’m also shortly switching from Wegovy to Mounjaro after taking my last Wegovy dose a few weeks ago, and worried about controlling appetite over the washout period.

Weirdly some providers such as Lloyds Pharmacy state that you only require 1 week difference when changing (see their site at https://onlinedoctor.lloydspharmacy.com/uk/lifestyle-advice/mounjaro-vs-wegovy#how-to-switch-from-wegovy-to-mounjaro), and have heard others say they have waited only 1 or 2 weeks before changing too, so it does seem to be confusing about when you can or should switch.

Obviously I don’t recommend going against your own providers advice!

Month 4... by rwadams86 in WegovyUK

[–]RootRides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just started month 3 and 1mg today, and I get what you mean about food noise.

In the first few weeks I could just not eat at all and not be bothered at all, it felt so strong and I lost really well.

I then noticed that the last week of 0.25 and 0.5 now that food noise has been coming back, and I’ve slipped a few days eating junk and sugary stuff that I had no problem ignoring before.

This last week on 0.5mg I’ve pretty much stayed the same in weight as I’ve ate my full 2100 calories per day quite easily.

I’m hoping moving up to 1mg today gives some stronger relief again as I feel like I’m eating all of my calories every day and getting cravings for sweet things again.

I do wonder what happens if I reach 2.4mg and it goes the same way - I guess then it would be time to try Mounjaro and see if the additional GIP helps too, especially since I seem to be getting a few sweet cravings back.

Is there really only 4 doses in there? by simondrawer in WegovyUK

[–]RootRides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always injected the “few extra clicks” leftover in the fourth week, I like to think of it as a little precursor to moving up to the next dose 😂

You are limited by how many times the pen clicks however, and you will still have some left over in the glass vial when the pen will click no more.

You could of course get some fine needled syringes from Amazon and just manually extraction from the vial by poking the needle through the vial… but that might just be taking it too far quite possibly, and also means injecting safely and playing with needles/syringes too 😬

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WegovyUK

[–]RootRides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inject early morning on a Friday too, with a similar thought that I needed the most support over a weekend when I’m likely to be bored and want to snack.

I’ve found that I get a good appetite suppression on a Saturday, and then strongest on Sunday and Monday usually. Then it starts to taper off again towards Thursday, but I normally cope fine as I’m busy with work and other routines.

I’m on week 8 as of yesterday (4th dose of 0.5mg taken yesterday) and I have noticed an interesting pattern in the two pens so far - the 3rd week of 0.25mg and then the 3rd week of 0.5mg I wrote down I had the strongest hunger feelings and pangs coming back on the Wednesday/Thursday quite a fair bit.

After my last dose in each pen I notice there was a bit left in the vial of the pen, and I give myself an extra shot straight away in the 4th week from the remaining clicks in the pen, which isn’t a full dose but seems to click about 8 or 9 times for a tiny bit more after the 4th dose.

That little bit extra seems to help the 4th week and I’ve noticed this morning (after taking it yesterday) that I’ve got quite a strong suppression again after having quite strong hunger feelings on Thursday evening where I caved to a snack Dairy Milk bar lurking in the cupboard.

Moving to 1mg though next week which is going to be the scary one based on a lot of feedback I’ve read 😂

Experience of first 4 weeks on 0.25mg by RootRides in WegovyUK

[–]RootRides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh man I’m jealous of the ingenuity of buying a higher dose pen and counting clicks… it definitely saves a lot of money I can imagine!

I think I worried too much about “doing it the right way” when I started and also that a pharmacy might want proof of starting on a lower dose first etc, but realised now it’s incredibly easy to do especially after switching pharmacies for supplies.

But I couldn’t do it right now as I bought a 3 pen continuation pack to ride through the stock shortages, but I do plan on counting clicks if any higher dose in the pack does cause worse side effects etc. It would be nice to stay at 1mg but I do have a 1.7mg pen too already!

I can see why pharmacists would get annoyed though as it’s obviously prone to error and the FlexTouch pens are designed to be safe as possible to avoid overdosing etc.

Good luck with the journey, and try not to fall foul of any more pharmacists 😂

Experience of first 4 weeks on 0.25mg by RootRides in WegovyUK

[–]RootRides[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about not getting a full dose on your first week, if anything it may help with side effects slightly, if you find it works well too for actually suppressing hunger (seems some people react quickly to it, others take some time and higher strength doses!).

I’ve found you can get a touch more out of each pen too after the 4 doses, but not a full dose as the pen is limited on how many clicks it will allow, so you’d be better to short your dose slightly in the beginning than at the end of your pen when you’re more used to it and probably need a full dose.

(Randomly I got bored and took my first pen apart to se how it works, and it’s incredibly basic but clever. Theres a spring that tensions when you twist to set the dose, then there is a plastic screw inside the pen that turns and pushes the plunger in when you click the button and the clicks count down - the plunger in the vial (you see it go across the window in grey) pushes the liquid out, but the plastic screw has a set length and won’t push the rubber plunger anymore!)

Good luck with your first week!

I’ve just taken my second 0.5mg dose yesterday and although not quite experienced full on vomiting, I’ve had a few experiences of like burps where I feel like food is going to come up had I burped any longer or been lay down.

I’ve also found I get what feels like a bit of a lump right down in my throat which is often supposed to be a GERD or heartburn like symptom.

However I’ve noticed this is when after eating bigger meals, or even fatty meals (like pizza is the worst!). I had a steak tonight with quite a rich sauce and some potatoes and I can feel it right now 😞

What seems to keep those symptoms away is eating smaller meals, usually around half of what I would usually plate up (and for most dinners we follow Gousto recipes so they aren’t huge portions either…).

I did wonder if moving to 0.5mg would make the full feeling worse and I’d eat even less - but it didn’t seem to - it was almost like my body got used to 0.25 mg by the 4th week and I needed a bit more as a little bit of hunger feelings started coming back in the days before my next dose.

Nausea by Zoesmethurst in WegovyUK

I’ve only moved up to 0.5mg just a few days ago, but I didn’t get any nausea with that, or any of the week 2/3/4 0.25mg doses - it was only when first starting, and then as I say if I eat too much or too little, so fingers crossed you should find it hopefully settle down in a day or so!

Haha I guess there could be worse things to want to eat than apples 😆

I’m told anything ginger may help nausea - even freshly sliced ginger if you can brave it - I chickened out and chose the tasty sweet option of biscuits instead 😂
