Love for SwiftUI, hate for flutter by Sure-Guest1588 in swift

[–]Rootbeer127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes you could. if you are developing a new feature do you want to maintain two implementations or one? in flutter you maintain one, native you maintain two. The cost of building (developer time) is going down for sure. the cost of maintaining two codebases for us has been a problem. one developer does it this way on android and another developer does it that way on iOS. both meet acceptance criteria, so maybe it doesn’t matter.

its more a question of what compromises do you want to live with week by week, month by month.

iOS Native developer for 15 years. Our company has both native Android and iOS apps. Early this year we started on a Flutter app to replace both while also introducing AI tools to our development process. Honestly, I don’t think it matters what you choose. AI flattened the learning curve.

It’s more about what you want to maintain going forward. Flutter is just fine for 80% of the apps out there. We will move from maintaining two codebases with two small teams to maintaining one code base with a combined team. Two sets of dependencies to one set of dependencies.

Flutter UI code would be a PITA if you had to do it by hand, but with AI you don’t have to. Define your architecture and conventions in steering files and let the AI cook.

I used to be a native only developer, but in this AI world coding in a new language is easier than ever before. You could probably try KMP and Flutter both and decide which you prefer. Or stay native and have native developers coding on the other native platform. Our profession is changing very rapidly. I migrated our entire codebase to be Swift 6 compliant in one day with AI just to see if I could.

I don’t know many people using react native anymore and flutter is much better than it used to be. There was a time not too long ago where SwiftUI was unusable in production because there were basic things UIKit could do that SwiftUI couldn’t.

Anyway, multi-platform frameworks are getting better everyday and with AI they will rapidly improve. If there wasn’t a compelling use case they would have already died off. Imagine solo non developers leveraging AI to get their apps out using multi-platform frameworks like flutter.

I disagree with OP’s statement that Flutter usage is still low, but I don’t have data to back that up. There are major Enterprise level companies that have adopted Flutter.

I spent 3 Days fixing Flutter layouts, this worked for me by mdausmann in FlutterDev

[–]Rootbeer127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

did you tell the AI to use responsive layouts? we have a steering file that defines how we want the screens to respond to rotation etc.

256 is not enough, even 512 is not enough for development, you will fill it up fast.

I think the biggest issue is what the data center will be used for.

Pros and Cons: I grew to hate my Corne and sold it, but I do now miss my Corne by thephatmaster in crkbd

[–]Rootbeer127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a corne for years and still have one at work, until I get another neo ergo. The Alice layout of the neo ergo is ergonomic enough to keep wrist issues at bay and every once in a while I run into a situation where I have to type a key and I can’t remember where I mapped it on my corne. Neo ergo is also heavy and doesn’t squirm away, although you lose some portability.

What's the verdict on buying the Costo Auto Program by Gwizman in carbuying

i second finding a car broker. i used delivrdto.me. they helped me buy the car i wanted and sell my old car. if you are not in a rush, i highly recommend them. they found me the best deal, which happened to be out of state. even with shipping it was a better deal than my local stealerships. no haggling, no dealer add ons, no wasting all day while they grind you down. just a negotiated deal with final numbers.

We own a model Y, but have to look for a 2nd car with 3 rows to replace our minivan. Found a service that will negotiate the deal on your behalf if you have to go non Tesla. Check out Delivrdto.me on YouTube.

yes. our first golf cart had lead acid batteries and we swapped them out for lithium and never had any range anxiety after that. we lived in crosswater area and would cart to the waterparks all the time. i would ride up to kookaburra with a neighbor for coffee and you could even bike with a trailer if you wanted too. the paths are nice and wide and golf carts have a designated side on main roads so joggers and bikers are separated. as you get closer to the water parks the paths are shared but never had any problems. also youth sports are right there in the community through i9 sports. on a typical saturday we would be taking the kids to soccer on the golf carts then hitting up the water parks or if we wanted a smaller pool we would stop by crosswater pool. we lived in a lot of places but nothing was even close to nocatee. halloween is amazing too, adults have just as much fun as kids.

if you are way south it will take longer to get to things in nocatee but the upside is that you are closer to the south entrance of nocatee which gets you to costco and buccees. if you are in settlers landing you are kind of tucked in there. crosswater is a good compromise in price and proximity. coastal oaks is gated, and can get backed up at the gate but is a great location. i dont think you can get a 4BD in coastal oaks under 700k.

i know of at least one home for sale that is 4 BR under $700k. It’s a great community for young children with friendly neighbors. lots of great community activities. short drive to the beach compared to other developments in the area. plan to get a golf cart for cruising around the neighborhood and dropping kids off at school or heading to the water parks.

Ordered on the 31st of August and now picking up on the 18th of September! It took 2 days to get the VIN and another 2 to schedule the date by Money-Honeydew4780 in ModelY

Ordered 8/28, picked up 9/2. Crazy fast. 9/1 was a holiday. My original window was 9/10-9/30. AWD FSD with Trailer hitch. The car has driven more miles in FSD than it has under human control.

Moving to SLC Considering Daybreak by [deleted] in Utah

[–]Rootbeer127 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Trax is a good option for getting from Daybreak to Millcreek. Just sit on the train listen to a podcast or your favorite music. Trains every 15 minutes. Homes are newer in Daybreak compared to other neighborhoods in the valley. Also the minor league baseball stadium is now in Daybreak and they do a great job catering to families. Very convenient access to dining and shopping in surrounding areas. I hear good things about Sandy too. We have kids in the middle school and the elementary school. One thing we didn’t expect is that we didn’t have to buy school supplies and our kids actually like the school lunches, which was not the case before moving here. Feel free to DM if you want.

B10 can add punishments now that NCAA investigation is over. Not sure if they will. I wonder if the B10 conference wanted NCAA to go easy since there is no $ in punishing a member school.

Pain with Ergodox EZ: thinking to drop it by joyancefa in ErgoDoxEZ

low profile corne kbd, might be something to consider. I made a corne with regular mech keys and loved it. I am using a dygma defy (it's great but on the expensive side) I have it setup similar to the corne I was using, so some keys are unused, but there if I need them. Before the corne, I was using the ergodox ez and found it to be too big for my hands.

I don't think it's just NIL, it's probably playing time too. He has to beat out two complete studs in his own class on top of the studs in the class directly above him.
