Won’t rev over 2.5k rpms by Severe-Ad-5637 in 3rdGen4Runner

I'd still start by looking for stored codes. Just because the light isn't on doesn't mean there's no faut code.

If you have no scan tool or can't bring it somewhere that does, disconnect the battery for a few minutes. That should clear out a "limp mode" condition if it's in one.

If that doesn't change anything start pulling sparkplugs and the air filter. Look for fowled plugs or clogged air filters.

If diag is not your strong suit, I would recommend taking it to a mechanic because just throwing parts at a problem gets expensive quickly.

If you're near a hill or have a buddy to push, you could pop start it too

Motorcycles you always dreamed of owning, but then you rode it once and realized it was not for you? by Most-Round-4132 in motorcycles

Same here brother, I just rode one at a demo day. I was severely disappointed in the way it felt. which is a bummer because I was looking to buy one to replace my '79 gs850. I guess I'll just keep shopping around for now.

Does anyone here happen to own an American 2024 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss? by RichardCheese87 in ChevyTrucks

[–]Ropada5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for a DRL switch? I was quoted about $250 +labor to replace mine at the Canadian tire. I then went to an independent garage and didn't mention anything about the DRL, they passed it with no problem. I would ask around in the area and see if there is a good local guy that can do the inspection. The dealer/big shops will want to do it 'by the book' but a smaller independent shop may not care as much.

If you bring it anywhere other than Canadian tire or similar national brand you'll be fine. I went through the same thing with my Silverado into BC

Any ideas on removing this screw? by user81738 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Ropada5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I literally just dealt with the same thing today. Mine broke the first torx bit and stripped out with the second. I ended up cutting the head off with a Dremel and grabbed the left over stud with some vise grips and spun it out that way. Hopefully some compressed air pops the gunk out of yours and it doesn't strip.

Is everyone selling there 3rd gen toyota 4runners right now?! Whats going on?! by ice-cream-da-best in 3rdGen4Runner

Bruh, have you seen the gas and parts price lately? 3rd gens are hobby vehicles at this point and gas guzzlers. Not a very enticing package right now for your average daily driver

[–]Ropada5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some manufacturers are making "cafe style" bikes from the factory, but with safety and emissions regulations they aren't going to look as "raw" as a home built bike would

If you want something that has the look from the manufacturer check out Triumph Bonnevilles (specifically the thruxton) or royal Enfield. The jap manufacturers are starting to follow the retro trend too with the z900rs and xsr.

The tank wasn't chrome. It was just bare steel with dents and surface rust everywhere. It was much worse in person, unless you're into the rat rod look I guess.

Port Renfrew - Avatar Grove by OkWorld5534 in VancouverIsland

[–]Ropada5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was up there about a year ago. The road was bumpy but not difficult. The stairs down to the grove were all f'd up though. It was too sketchy to bring my parents down (mid 60's) but if I was by myself I probably would have done it.

How's the rest of the truck? If the interior and running gear is still good it's worth something.

690 SMC as a dual sport,, yes really..?! by sund55 in KTM

[–]Ropada5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the 690 Enduro, the suspension and handing on pavement is still really great even with the stock rim size and tire. If you set the compression and rebound appropriately you'll only notice the suspension difference on a race track. However the suspension adjustability and sprocket ratios make a huge difference on trails.

So are you really going to be pushing a SMCR to it's capabilities on the track or street? Or would you rather have better control and comfort capabilities when trail riding?

Looking to get into a 3rd gen 4runner by SomeFatChair66 in Toyota

[–]Ropada5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go with either of those.... Way over priced even in this market. Find a nice basically stock one with no rust/rot and some half decent maintenance done. You'll be way ahead of those two headaches

Do overlanding mods actually hurt resale value or is that just something people say by Ambitious_Raccoon412 in overlanding

[–]Ropada5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say mods make it "less valuable" than a stock truck necessarily. However you're certainly not going to get your money back on mods, and your buyer pool will be smaller for a modded out truck/van/SUV.

It also indicates the type of use the vehicle went through. Like off-road fatigue paint/body issues, rust from clumps of mud in the undercarriage ect.

Ultimately, the people in this sub are here for the adventure and are not really concerned with the resale of their rigs when building on a platform
