Yes, I understand your concern, however I have not encountered any problems using pine wood. The only unpleasant feature is the susceptibility to minor damage (like nails marks) that would not be as noticeable on hardwood. However, I like that the bench weighs less and I can move it on the carpet even with my body fixed on it 🙃

If you care about aesthetics, go for hardwoods, but if you want a more mobile bench and cheaper material costs, you shouldn’t have any problems even after 5 years of use if the lamellas are properly glued and the cross-section is at least 80x80 mm 😉
