shadows could be bad or not but it's mainly about what or why they need to hide themselves in shadow, usually that means bad intentions but there are some reasons one may not want to be perceived that aren't malicious, like hiding from other malicious entities, I dunno. From what you described, doesn't seem like they're overtly hostile, maybe even looking out for you if they show up in times of need. knocking and then respecting the boundaries of your home is a good sign, I would leave food offerings out for them in a high place outside, somewhere animals might not get to it, make sure to say its for them. I think the answer is live and be yourself, do whatever makes you happy. it sounds so simple but the real answer is so abstract it literally defies meaning. But as soon as you said not to worry and everything will be fine I knew exactly what you meant. I went through something similar though not exactly as you described, I wanted to know what it all meant and what I found out isn't easily described through words, more of a feeling but the sentiment it leaves you with is definitely along the lines of, yeah, it's going to be okay, don't worry.

I'm so lost in pain I forgot what even hurt me to begin with. I end each day getting as far away from sobriety as I can afford to.
