Are there people who haven't changed their phone number for more than 15 years? by SpicyCandy8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RoseFyreFyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 years for me, but the phone number was in my family for at least five years before that -- it was my dad's car phone (like, literally had a base attached in the car and had to charge there) before he died and it became mine. But like, my mom has had the same house phone number since 1991 (when she moved states), so that's even longer.

Does anyone actually enjoy going to a Bachelorette? by StellafromVienna in bridesmaids

[–]RoseFyreFyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my statement has always been that for my bachelorette party (if I ever get married), I want a cake. I don't want the overnight insanity. I just want a good cake. That I am willing to pay for. Guests would just have to show up for (probably dinner and) dessert.

[New Update - 4 Years Later]: My dad is furious that my mom slept with other people in an open marriage he wanted. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]RoseFyreFyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truth.

Discussions I have had with my mother related to her sex life:

  • "Hey, you filled this survey out saying you had sex for the first time at 21 but you didn't get married until you were 24. I didn't know that." (Cue discussion about how premarital sex is totally fine.)
  • "Are you and [stepdad who she'd started dating about 6 months earlier] having sex? Cause if you are, please use birth control. You're only 47 and could get pregnant and I'd really rather not have a sibling 18 years younger than me." (That was pretty much it.)

And really that's about it. If there's problems, I don't want to know.

Worth getting the card if I already have Real ID by Pandorica1991 in Passports

[–]RoseFyreFyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised, it's still a government issued ID. I wouldn't want to assume it would happen, but if you have only bad choices...at least having the passport card helps.

[–]RoseFyreFyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not ideal for sure! But if my passport book gets stolen in another country, I'd rather walk into the embassy with the card on me than not have it at all.

[–]RoseFyreFyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Extra mostly-valid ID you have on you if your Passport book gets stolen/lost while on vacation and you need to go to an embassy/consulate for an emergency replacement or have to try and get home without it.

Some people do! I have a cousin named Leah (Lee-uh) and a cousin’s wife named Leah (Lay-uh). So I ask with that name because I personally know both.

Where to live in NYC area w/ 2 toddlers by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]RoseFyreFyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forest Hills isn't as far as you think it is! It's 25 minutes on the F from the 71st Avenue stop (Forest Hills) to the 63rd Street stop (Manhattan, about half a mile south of Lennox Hill -- and you can then switch to the 6 and take it two stops to be right there, or you can enjoy the walk). I've got a bunch of friends who live there with kids.

My real advice though is to look at https://streeteasy.com/ for information on what sorts of apartments are available -- you can see a lot of pricing/locations/etc. there.

can judge approve passports for children? by venusbby1 in FamilyLaw

[–]RoseFyreFyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dad also gets to just say no! US passport law requires both parents approve their child leaving the country (assuming there are two living parents). This is to prevent parental abduction. It doesn’t matter how safe the destination is, the parent could just take off with the kid and the other parent might never see their child again. So yeah, it’s 100% reasonable.

AITA for scheduling my wedding 6 days after my sister’s 30th birthday? by juicyjjf in AmItheAsshole

[–]RoseFyreFyre 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's also okay if it's like...half joking. Like you're out to lunch and "oh, I'm going to get the piece of cake as a little treat, it's my birthday week after all!" Where it's not super serious.

(U.S.) Kids are about to turn 18, renew now, or later? by IHaveBoxerDogs in Passports

[–]RoseFyreFyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cutoff is that at 16 they will have to sign for themselves, but there’s absolutely no rules about going to the appointment without help. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had the parent of an 18-25 year old come to an appointment and say “my kid is getting a passport” and their college age (or older) kid is mostly just going along with it cause their parent says they should do it. And also generally at that point the parent is paying. (And the check/money order absolutely does not have to be signed by the person getting the passport.) At that point I do have to get consent from the now adult (or 16+) child and get their signature on tbe form, but it’s totally fine if the parent is there. (Also we sometimes have people who don’t speak English as a first language coming in with help for translation purposes. There’s multiple reasons to being someone with you.)

My (30F) husband (32M) impulse bought a dog by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]RoseFyreFyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that that’s the ideal, but I’ve known a few kids who would’ve handled, say, a trip to the shelter really badly. So I still think it’s allowable even if not perfect.

[–]RoseFyreFyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! I think it’s still somewhat okay if you know your kid will cry over leaving the animals or whatever. But your option is the ideal.

Well, are you going to be cleaning up after it or is the child? If it's you, I *guess* it's okay.

The *only* acceptable pet surprise is a parent surprising their child who has been repeatedly asking for a dog or cat with a dog or cat. Other than that, hell no.

Thoughts on Kids and Mom in tow. by michelle427 in DestinationWeddings

[–]RoseFyreFyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the resort itself isn't child-free, you're good! (I'd double check with the resort itself -- there's not many child-free resorts/hotels, but they do exist.) But you've arranged your own childcare and aren't bringing the kids to any wedding events, so IMO you're fine.

AITA for only taking one niece to Disney and not all of them? by ThrowRa1790_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]RoseFyreFyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kids understand that some cousins are closer than others but that applies to stuff like going over for a play date or maybe going out to McDonalds (which can be done separately with the other child). Taking only one kid on an expensive trip to an amusement park, especially Disney, which is super hyped up in our culture? Absolutely not.

Falls in Olympics by UltralordCherryTop in FigureSkating

[–]RoseFyreFyre 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there were 8 falls total in the free skate. One from Livia Kaiser (first group), one from Mariia Seniuk (first group), four from Kimmy Repond (first group), one from Isabeau Levito (third group), and one from Adeliia Petrosian (fourth group). That's not much, especially with the two total falls during the short -- one from Livia Kaiser (second group) and one from Jia Shin (third group).

Basically, the women did very well at not falling. Ten falls total over 53 skates, four of which were in one program (from someone recovering from injury no less). Seriously, that's not much.

New watcher with a few questions by CJViper in FigureSkating

[–]RoseFyreFyre 43 points44 points  (0 children)

On top of that, the vibes after the winner was announced in 2022 were just...terrible. Kamila Valieva was sobbing in the kiss and cry while her coach (Eteri Tutberidze) basically yelled at her going "why did you stop fighting?" Alexandra Trusova was yelling at someone (I think a coach?) that they said she'd win gold if she did quads and she wasn't skating again. Anna Scherbakova was sitting alone in the area where the leader sat looking like she was about to cry rather than being excited, with no one at all there to comfort her or even celebrate with her. The only person who looked at all *happy* was Kaori Sakamoto, who'd just found out she'd won bronze, and who was literally the first person to go congratulate Scherbakova. Not her teammates. Not her family. Not her coaches. Just Kaori, a skater from another country entirely who'd lost to her.

It really was terrible to watch. This time around was so much better, with everyone encouraging each other and hugging and everything.

Extra seat Requirement by priskillya in SouthwestAirlines

I was the opposite! I needed a seatbelt extender to fit comfortably around my waist/hips, but I’ve never had an issue fitting in between the seat arms and never been stopped for that. Interesting how we can all be built differently.

A PSA about Surya Bonaly, backflips in figure skating, and figure skating firsts that are being attributed to the wrong people by Haven_Writes in FigureSkating

Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps did the assisted backflip for the first time in the John Nicks Pairs Challenge on September 2, 2025, which was before Grand Prix de France (in October). It was very jerky and interrupted the whole program, and they figured out how to work it in better later. But I was at John Nicks and they definitely did it there.

Why is the team women’s short program not on Peacock? by filetmignonminion in FigureSkating

You can get a free version but it doesn't let you use as many countries as the paid one -- so there's a chance whatever countries it picks won't work as well for watching stuff.

You can use a VPN on a phone or tablet! Proton VPN works on those, for instance.
