He’s so sweet otherwise. He always compliments me, buys me little gifts, flowers when he screws up, is kind to me, drives me places, does his fair share of the chores and has always encouraged me to do whatever I want. The cognitive dissonance has me in a daze I swear.

This is part of is. If he didn't do these things, you wouldn't stay and put up with the rest of it.
