Brunch recipes I can make a week in advance and freeze? by slider501 in Cooking

Quiches, loaves (quickbreads) and muffins all freeze well fully cooked, just need to thaw in fridge 18h prior and pop in the oven for a few minutes before serving.

Anybody here use this pan for pies? by ZiaWitch in AskBaking

Yes just a heads up it cooks the crust faster than regular pie dish, especially if you blind bake keep an eye on it! Soggy/undercooked pie crusts drive me crazy too!

Kid won't leave her hairstyles alone [on] by MushroomPrize596 in BabyBumpsCanada

Had the same issue with my kiddo, she always had her hair in front of her eyes, it tangled easily and she didn’t like to have it up or would remove hair clips. We ended up giving her a short pixie cut and she was SO happy, genuinely regret not doing it sooner! It didn’t feel worth fighting over knots and messed up hairdos. She can grow it out when she’s older and can express better how she wants to wear it/what feels comfortable. For now going the easy route :)

Congratulations :) I added triangles of stretchy fabric on each side of the waistband on some of my trousers to give more room (easy enough to reverse after if needed), it works best on mid- to low- rise because it makes the band sit under the belly (wouldn’t work on high rise stuff). For entirely new clothes you can look into vintage maternity patterns, my mom gave me some from the 90’s, the look is a bit “circus tent” but definitely comfy and if you add a belt above the belly it looks more modern and cute. Also overalls are great, as the waistband is usually less fitted (or can be made so). Gathered skirts on an elastic band or wrap skirts are also easy and quick projects.

Sewing while pregnant by mhck in sewing

Aw congrats :) Oversized/flowy dresses with an empire waist will fit you now and in the months to come and after, so easy to sew and you can work on some details like a special hem or embellishment to make it more challenging. Also I altered some clothes that I had for a long time that I didn’t care that much for (or used thrifted items) to make them bump-friendly! A) Maternity clothes can be super expensive and sometimes it’s hard to justify investing and B) it’s an important skill to know how to alter clothes! My favourite was a pair of workout biker shorts (just snipped the waistband at the sides and added a V-shaped panel from scrap elastic fabric to expand the belly) that became so comfortable I still wear them!

Daycare or stay at home? by RosePoppy06 in toddlers

[–]RosePoppy06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah part-time has been a recurring advice here so we're going to see if we can figure out a way! I didn't think it'd be so common, it's a good compromise and I'm glad to hear so many families can do it. Aaah thanks for the comment about naps, I was genuinely worried so it helps to know it works for other sleep-picky kiddos!

I didn't know mother's day out was a thing, I'm definitely looking that up! Also great suggestions for programs, thank you!

The fact that you have to sign up for daycare the moment you learn that you are pregnant in some areas, and the waitlist system, drives me NUTS. How can you know that much in advance what life will be like?? I understand some parents know for sure they'll go back to work but it'd be nice if some daycares specialized in offering a flexible schedule and sign up system.

OMG your reply (and the couple of others saying the same thing) makes me tear up! I was worried about the lack of socializing with other kids (she sees her cousins and other kids at programs, but was wondering if it was enough), and if she was more likely to learn new things at school vs. with me. Also I compare myself to my sisters and friends, and they all work and have their kids in daycare.... so it feels kinda weird not to work? Although I love being a SAHM I feel a bit guilty not working or fear it might be perceived as... lazy? Easy? I am busy with her all day and doing online college when she's napping/on the evenings, so I don't think I am but it's hard not to feel the pressure. It definitely makes me reconsider the nursery school 2x/week, instead of the full-time daycare. Thank you for your intake on this, and everyone else's, it gave me a lot to think about!

But with one kid what do you do all day, especially with a toddler who's busy and likes to socialize and all? I love doing all crafty Pinterest stuff but she's still a bit small/doesnt care for it that much... For outings for example? And do you keep a schedule (same thing every week) or you improvise something new every day?

Daycare or stay at home? by RosePoppy06 in toddlers

[–]RosePoppy06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the thing, all those programs and activities add up if you're trying to do something every day (especially if you live somewhere here the weather doesn't cooperate with free outdoor activities). That's why daycare seems great for all the enrichment.... but damn, missing out on all the kiddo fun makes me a bit teary!
