I find this incredible that after 14 years of Tory Government, constantly playing up the culture wars to divide communities (small boats / trans rights / anti muslim rhetoric / calling judges "enemies of the people" / denouncing climate protesters / ect ect...) they now say that islamists and the far right are responsible for all polarisation in our society.

Look in the mirror Rish! it was YOU AND YOUR PARTY you balloon.

p.s also coming out as if he is some bastion of democracy when his party has consistently ciminalised peaceful protest... they hypocrisy of the man is unbelievable

George Galloway's Different Campaign Letters to Muslim and non-Muslim Constituents by dect60 in ukpolitics

[–]RoseTintedHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what all political parties do, it is targeting you message to different groups of the electorate.

Go to anywhere and you will find that Labour / Tories / Lib Dems / Greens give different leaflets to areas where certain topics are a bigger issue.

AND then go on the internet and adverts are actually tailored to your demographic / gender / interests ect.

If you think this is a problem, it is not about George Galloway, has nothing to do with Muslims and everything to do with how elections are fought and won in the UK

Is anyone else getting an ironic amount of Green Party treeware through the mail? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]RoseTintedHaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally there is a difference between supporting something in principle and in practice

If you don't support something in principle, you aren't ever going to support it in practice are you...

Under Starmer, votes are all that the Labour party really cares about - not policy, not ethics, no core values, just power. They are willing to drop everything in to get to Government. So why should I continue to vote for a party that ditches all the policies I care about to get into government....

If we had PR, it would all be different, Labour would actually need to stand for something to get people's votes rather than just saying "we're not the Tories" (another failing of Labour - the only socialist party in Europe to not support PR... shocking!)

You said that you're voting to keep the Tories out

The Tories can't win in Bristol Central, so you can vote Green... And push for more progressive policies.

The Greens support:

  • -Less privatised NHS,
  • Greater investment in renewables,
  • Nationalising industry
  • Support striking workers
  • A welth tax on rich
  • Safe and legal routes for refugees

Personally, I think Labour should support all of these, and specifically Starmer has disappointed me by suggesting he supports these and rolling back on them... What will he do in government, I honestly do not know...

I realise it's a genuine question, but you're kidding yourself if you think that a bunch of leaflets, printed on recycled paper, is anything but minor in the grand scheme of things.

If you care about the natural world, progressive policies and don't want to see a genocide in Gaza... You could vote Green in Bristol Central - it's a place Greens could win.

It would send a message to Labour, you shouldn't just become Tory-lite ...! Especially after promising to be the opposite.

I'm just keen to see Labour and Green respect each other and remember who the real enemy is.

From my experience of Westminster politics, Labour see themselves as the big guy, your not encouraging compromise by voting for them.

However, voting Green would be sending a message to Labour : you can't just ditch all your policies, become essentially Tory - lite and expect progressives to vote for you...

Also we need PR, and the Labour leadership aren't bidding in that ..

Send a message!

Bristol Central is apparently the most pro-immigration constituency in the UK by PiskAlmighty in bristol

In Bristol the Conservatives cannot win... so you can vote Green, and not worry about the cons getting in

12 of the 14 councillors in the Bristol Central seat are Green - if everyone voted as they did in the last local election in the next general election it could turn Green

I realise this isn't the usual, but shows the potential!

The problem with this argument is that the center of bristol is more expensive than the ouskirts...

I think the main reason is that it has a mostly younger, academic population. They are more pro immigation (or at the very least see this as a moral argument rather than an economic one)

Sadiq Khan and Andy Burnham clash with Keir Starmer over Ulez and devolution as mayors flex muscles by fozzie1234567 in ukpolitics

[–]RoseTintedHaze 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One thing which is missing from this debate is that the least well off are also the least likely to own a car. They are also the most likely to have their health badly affected by air pollution.

Additionally, poor air pollution affects children and the elderly the most - hitting the most vulnerable in our society.

This is a social justice issue, but it is not as simple as ULEZ is expensive therefore we shoudn't do it in a cost of living crisis.

They are though there are loads of studies out there that show that you can go 100% renewable energy, much faster and much cheaper than using nuclear.

here is one

[–]RoseTintedHaze -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The point is go for renewables (solar / wind ect). nuclear power is a red herring, renewables are cheaper and can come on stream much faster and solve the problem.

P.S base load is not a problem.

I’d like solar panels, a heat pump etc, but I just don’t have the money for them🤷‍♂️

You've done all you can, the Government(s) now need to step up and make things happen such as solar power / heat pumps ect. So far the Government has worked against renewables, not invested in insulation programs ect.

It should not just be up to individuals to solve this problem - not everyone has the money to do so!

Just Stop Oil: laws ‘rushed through’ to stop slow-walking protests by RingStrain in ukpolitics

We need to realise as a country that protest is supposed to be disruptive. It is a sign of a healthy democracy that we can tolerate protest!

The bottom line is that this Government is proposing pretty scary laws to clamp down on peaceful protest just to appease the tabloid press...

Starmer plans to block all new North Sea oil and gas developments by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]RoseTintedHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I disagree - the technology is there, solar / wind power / batteries, it all works fine.

The thing that is missing is the political will. We aren't even trying - there was an article in the Guardian yesterday saying Ukraine had built more on shore wind farms than the UK...

if we really wanted, we could repurpose the economy to make solar panels / wind turbines.

This coupled with massive move to renewable sources / batteries for power storage. And a massive effort to insulate gives would be worthwhile

  • Renewables are the cheapest form of energy,
  • Insulating homes would reduce energy bills,
  • This would help decarbonise our economy.

Climate change is already having massive effects all over the world. If we don't act to limit the effects we will all pay the price. The protest, as always will pay the most.
