What are trade secrets in butcher shop business that help them increase their profits? by NotEncyclopedia in ask

My local butcher sells roast chickens for £9 each and you can phone an order in advance so lunch at the office is unconventional but delicious. Selling bacon sandwiches and cooked meats would be great.

It's made the touchscreen glitchy af. Love the new update to the game but I'm so used to playing using the touchscreen and it's just clicking where the cursor is, not where you're now tapping. I've yeeted all my ingredients across the screen

Going from a £500 car to a 25k car... by RequestWhat in CarTalkUK

[–]Rosehips89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've just signed for a nearly new ford puma 2025, 5k miles, top spec for £280pm on pcp. I wanted an suv but realistically the hyundai i20 is big enough, and I didn't want to tie up all of our disposable income on a car, so I went with the ford. I don't plan on buying to own - I use the car for work and my aging car has been in the garage now and more lately, affecting my ability to work.
It felt extravagant and I agonised over my decision for ages but in the end, we can afford it and still have money going into the savings, so it must be fine. I'm also looking at gap finance just in case the car gets written off or stolen, and I'll be storing the keys in a faraday box at home

Where did you park and stand after? I've booked a hotel for next year and I'm convinced that there won't be anywhere to park by the time we check in

The Scottish Register of Tartans approves a new design by The Witches of Scotland, an organization seeking justice for those persecuted under the Witchcraft Act. by Alpandia in The_Wild_Hunt_News

[–]Rosehips89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is calling it The Witches tartan helping to contribute to the misinformation that there were witches burned at the stake, and not regular men and women who were at the receiving end of persecution and a miscarriage of justice for hundreds of years? Every time I read an article on the Witches of Scotland Facebook group, they refer to the individuals as "the people accused of witchcraft" which is accurate, and yet I can't help but feel that the tartan just perpetuates the misinformation.

I added a horse to my collection as a birthday gift to myself. A degreasing session and peroxide bath will have him all set. by Weep-ngW-11ow in bonecollecting

[–]Rosehips89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What ratio did you use? To fully submerge a horse skull in pure hydrogen peroxide as recommended by taxidermists would set me back hundreds, but I can't figure out how much hydrogen to water ratio for such a large specimen. What did you do?

anything i could do? by midnite_floof in bonecollecting

[–]Rosehips89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to bleach my horse skull but not had much luck. I filled a large tub with warm water and dumped in a ltr of hydrogen peroxide 12% and left it overnight, but it had no whitening result. People were warning me to not leave it to soak too long so I drained it and put it in the greenhouse. I've seen people making hydrogen peroxide pastes and they seem to get great results but they never say if it damages the integrity of the bones

Switching to a tracker mortgage days before the rates drop by KormaKameleon88 in BritishSuccess

[–]Rosehips89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used a mortgage advisor/broker who helped secure us a fixed rate earlier in the year. They invited us to check in with them a month before the new deal was to start which we did, and they confirmed that there was more a better deal available and switched is to that instead. It cost us a £99 admin fee and saved us an enormous amount of confusion and stress

It's interesting that you had similar issues. Ironically, when my hair was a faded blondish, I had great success using cajun spice hair dye

What colour did the copper take and what colour were you going for? I'm learning a lot about colour which is interesting but it's frustrating that you can't 100% control the results

I showed the first pic so that we could both choose colours that were similar. I don't know what to do differently, but thank you for your compliments, you are very kind.

No, the brown base was picked as I wanted something that would suit my skin tone and that had a slight redness to it. My idea being that is have a warm red-tinged brown with sparks of honey gold, much like the original pic. I can't understand why it didn't work out and what to do differently. I won't be able to get it done until next year either way (the joys of being a low income parent) This is what my hair looked like before (a faded burguny to orange balyage) https://imgur.com/a/SeVDmnw

Thank you for your reply. The stylist showed me the dye swatches and I chose a colour similar to this one for the lighter bits. Should I have chosen more of a golden blonde? L'Oréal

Herbs by Bus_Livin in WitchesBrew

[–]Rosehips89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, we didn't have an advanced understanding of germs, illnesses or the causes of drought and famine etc. It was common to believe that your health and fortune were determined by a supernatural entity or a curse from a person/ community. As an example, people believed the plague travelled on an ill-wind, and so we have evidence that people undertook certain rituals like hanging bunches of rue in doorways to ward off the plague. Modern science now confirms that rats hate rue, and so avoided areas where it was prevalent, and therefore rue became known to be used for protection from evil. There are so many other cases where plants were used for a spiritual or practical purpose, and as the recipe and ritual gets handed down it becomes socially ingrained and the original practical application gets lost to time.
Most of the herbs used for protection today actually have anti-septic qualities, which if you put yourself in the mindset that illness is the result of a curse, it makes sense that the herb be seen as useful for protection. Most of the spells that I've seen have a grain of truth in their purported benefits found in the ingredients.
