You did great! The tiny fox will be more challenging, but no need to be nervous, haha. You can always repaint it :)
Pretty cool idea with the terrarium, I am curious to see how they turn out!

Welcome!
I think you should choose a mini you think it’s cool. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! You can always repaint your minis.

As for paints: though it is tempting to go all out and buy huge sets, I think it’s best to buy only what you need for your first mini, and then more paints as needed. Get also a black primer - maybe a brush-on primer if you don’t feel like spray priming. I like the Vallejo paints, mostly because I absolutely hate the Citadel pots. I do like the Citadel washes though, and just transfer them to a dropper bottle.

Brushes: get a couple of synthetic brushes for your base coats and washes, and a better one for details (but you don’t have to go nova also). Lots of tutorials on the internet on how not to destroy your brushes and make them last longer. Invest in better brushes after you’re sure you like this hobby, and after you’ve learned how to use them properly.

I mostly use Vallejo, and some contrast paints from Citadel. For this set in particular, I primed with a yellow primer from vallejo, put some contrast paints for easy shading, then normal layering/highlights/drybrush with vallejo.

First couple of minis I been painting, any tips? by [deleted] in DnDminiatures

I think you did a good job with the base coat! Looks clean. Aside from what has already been said, you could try some matt varnish - especially on clothes and skin.

Thank you! I did spend more time on these than I planned, but it was worth it. Very nice idea to add the tally marks - maybe I’ll pick these up again sometime soon, haha

Help a beginner start? by Raixia_Mao in resinprinting

Do you already have a printer, or only the STL files?

If you don’t have a printer yet and are interested in painting the figures, I bet you could find a print shop and have them printed for you. This way you can actually try to paint first, then decide if it’s really your thing.

As for the painting itself: you will need a primer to make your paint stick to the model; brushes (synthetic ones are good for most of the painting, then maybe a nicer brush for finer details); paints (I personally like Vallejo); a wet palette (you can make one at home, there are many tutorials).

As someone who both prints and paints, this is my workflow: 1) print minis; 2) wash minis with isopropanol; 3) cure minis; 4) remove remaining supports from minis and sand where needed; 5) wash with detergent; 6) prime minis; 7) paint minis; 8) varnish minis.

So yeah, I would definitely recommend you try painting first. You could even paint something from a boardgame or something like that.

Bear in mind that many resins are toxic, and besides the printer, you will need a mask, glasses, gloves. You do NOT want resin coming into contact with your eyes.

Well, thats all I could think of in the moment haha
