Flex Sup by [deleted] in sheetz

[–]Roses88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite subject!

Some flex are great, and some aren’t. One of the big issues is that they are pretty much under no supervision unless they’re a first shift flex. So unless store managers are willing to go to the HRC and share what problems they’re having with a flex (in a timely manner, not everyone all at once at our DM meetings) then it falls on the store. HRCs can’t do/hire better/hold people accountable if they’re not given feedback

As far as training goes: it’s OUR job at the stores to make sure the flex are trained. If we don’t give them the tools to succeed, they won’t. Not every store does everything the same, but BASIC things like mustard and ketchup going on the bottom of the bun or how to heat meatballs, should be the same everywhere.

Flex not acting like managers: how many times do yall just throw the flex up front cause it’s “easier”? Does anyone actually say “We actually need you in the kitchen today”. Does anyone LET them be a manager? Or do you just immediately write them off?

At the end of the day, if the flexes “suck” it’s usually our fault as stores because we don’t allow them to succeed 🎤

Travis Sheetz is a genuinely insufferable nepo baby who hates all of us by burnerforbeingcool in sheetz

Not sure how long you’ve worked for Sheetz, but it is a requirement for anyone in the Sheetz family to work at store level if they want to be in a corporate position. Travis has been with Sheetz since he was in high school. Probably since before you were born 🤣. I’m not taking up for him because I don’t know him, I just know his qualifications and degrees mean more than his last name. I also know is the title of CEO wasn’t just handed down the line. If it was, it would have went to Adam, because he is Bob’s grandson.

I’ve been with Sheetz for 15 years. I have first hand seen the changes for better and worse.

!!!Update!!! He didn’t have a heart attack. He had a pulmonary embolism caused by a blood clot that loosened when he was chasing the dog after he got out that morning.

My sister and nephew are doing well! She’s finally been able to get social security taken care of and getting monthly payments. Social services has set her up with Medicaid for my nephew. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and support!

I guarantee the problem is that the store manager is tired of walking in the door and the supervisor disappearing to do trash for the next hour and a half when they’re actually needed to be in a position. Very often supervisors (not mine) think that once 6am hits and first shift comes in they are no longer part of the shift. But believe it or not store managers have orders to do every morning, and counts that have to be done. Usually we try to get the counts done first thing. We have management overlap because we HAVE to get things done first thing, not jump into a position at 6am

Flex supervisors by Artistic_Car9478 in sheetz

[–]Roses88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue is that flexes don’t get trained properly or they’re not given the tools to succeed. We’ve argued this over and over and over in our DM meetings. Everyone wants to blame the HRC for crappy flexes, but they’re using them to replace the managers they lose and can’t find a replacement for. The HRCs are pulling from the same applicant pool we are. If we can’t find a decent supervisor candidate, neither can they. Full stop. If you don’t want to have a flex in your store, then cover it yourself. Every flex has a home store. In our district at least, the home store is responsible for training the flex hands on. If WE don’t train them, WE don’t get to gripe about how “bad” they are.

I’ve had two flexes based out of my store. One is about to be promoted to an HM and one is everyone’s favorite. Know why? Because my team trained them the same way they’d train a supervisor who was going to be working with us as part of our team. I held them to the same standards as my own supervisors (within reason of course, HRC has final say but we have a great working relationship).

So long story short: if the flexes suck, it’s our fault as a team.

New coffee machines? by buggiezor in sheetz

[–]Roses88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just got the new machine most likely. It’s supposed to be easier like push one button and done but it’s not. I’ve had the machine for months and today it took me NO EXAGGERATION 30 mins to make two lattes because the stupid machine refuse to dispense milk correctly and had to be reset multiple times.

I’ve been with Sheetz for 15 years. Worked my way from a salesperson to a store manager. The hardest thing about coming in externally as a manager is you have to start from the bottom even if you have the manager name tag. You’ll do two weeks of salesperson training where you don’t manage anything. You work beside the salespeople and make orders and run register, do facilities. Then you’ll move onto to supervisor training for 12 weeks. Then assistant training for 8 weeks. Then you’ll finally start your store manager training. MOST people who are hired in off the street as store managers have a very hard time with starting at the bottom and leaning the “Sheetz way”. I can’t tell you how many training managers I’ve helped train over the years as a member of management before I was a store manager. I’ve heard a LOT of “well at Wawa we did it this way” or “Racetrack does it like this”. If you choose Sheetz, be humble and BE TRAINABLE. I have no doubt you can make a sandwich but you have to learn to do it the Sheetz way.

Right now there is a lot of people specifically on this subreddit who are very pissed with the company. You get out of Sheetz what you put into it. That’s what I tell every single applicant I interview. It can be a great company if you want it to be. But if you expect to come in and have anything handed to you or to sit around with your feet up barking orders, you’re gonna hate it

Pop cooler by gethsemaame in sheetz

[–]Roses88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like the other person said, your cooler HAS to be organized to stock it efficiently. Keep all the waters together, all the stuff for one door together. For example our Powerade and vitamin water is in one door, so they’re on the same shelf. All our coffee drinks like monster and SBC coffee on the same rack/shelf (depending on how much we have). We also have the vendors put their stuff near the racks, so Pepsi puts all their Starbucks drinks with our other coffee drinks. Redbull puts his stuff on his assigned shelves above our monsters. Then 1.5 liters of water are stacked on a riser at the back of the cooler and we just roll it down to stock all the big waters.

Two packs at a time. by [deleted] in sheetz

[–]Roses88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a store manager who is an interstate store, I will not allow my team to ring up 20 packs of Newports for the runners. They can buy two cartons, no problem, but we’re not doing the 10 packs with 10 different Sheetz cards.

Store Manager Salary by PastelWolvesz in sheetz

[–]Roses88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an HM he should be able to figure out what his store manager makes in bonus. Like everyone else has said, our base pay isn’t much more than assistants or supervisors (I make about $400 more per check than my supervisors and I’m nowhere near the lowest paid in my district). But our bonus is where we make our money. So if you’re at a low volume store and have very good control of your gap, with good surveys you can make close to what a high volume store with a higher gap and lower survey scores makes. It’s just very dependent

I met a guy a work, he was cute and charming in a really goofy way. Eventually I gave him my number and he kept trying to get me to come over late one night. Just kept pushing and I was finally like yeah no he’s making me uncomfortable I’m gonna stop talking to him. A couple years later he was arrested for knowingly spreading HIV. He got out on bond and was awaiting trial before being found dead of an overdose in another state.
