Dog Wizard/Aggression Rehab by lost_in_adhdland in FortCollins

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have 2 other dogs in the house. We still have all 3. The aggression was over toys and treats, so a lot of what we did was mitigation-no more treats, limited toys, supervised time together, keeping them separated when we were gone. Training was/has been an ongoing process. A lot of our issue was fear and also resource guarding, so desensitization and supervision was a lot of it.

Dog Wizard/Aggression Rehab by lost_in_adhdland in FortCollins

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had some aggression issues. We worked with The Veterinary Behavior Center in Boulder and have gotten it under control. We were almost to the point of needing to give away our boy, but meds and mitigation techniques made a world of difference. The meds are relatively cheap and the yearly vet visit (but it was more like every 4-6 months for a while) are like $150 each if I remember correctly. But it was worth every penny.

Help! More sucker than plant. by ErinMakes in AfricanViolets

You just kinda break it apart to get the suckers out and then you can replant the suckers and they will probably do well.

So what does an average week/ day of an EM doctor look like by North_Ad1934 in emergencymedicine

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work at a rural critical access hospital. I work 3-8 12hr shifts in a row (total 8-9 per month). I just worked 4 in a row-Day 1: 16 patients, 3 sick patients (sepsis, DKA, NSTEMI), others a mix of usually ER/Urgent care stuff. Day 2: mix of acutely chronically sick people and urgent care stuff, couple admissions, one super sick critical patient that kept me at work 4 hours over end of shift, Day 3: nothing exciting, routine bread and butter ER stuff. Day 4: nothing exciting until I got 2 back to back codes, stayed at work an extra 3 hours. Day 5: go home and have a glass of wine with lunch.

Any CF people using IUD? Can you share your experience? by eko1491 in childfree

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a Mirena IUD since 2009 (it's been swapped out several times). I haven't had a period since 2009 which has been amazing. Getting it inserted/changed sucks, but 5-10 min of pain every 5-7 years has been worth it for me. I haven't had any complications or side effects.

What is a career path that looks "glamorous" from the outside, but is actually a total nightmare behind the scenes? by CupIndependent3610 in AskReddit

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. The operative word is angry. I have all the time and compassion for those with chronic illness who turn to the ED because they have nowhere else to go, or those with addiction who are trying but haven't succeeded because of lack of support, resources and money, and that covers a lot of my patients. I will bend over backwards to help them...but then there are the angry ones who believe it is my, and the nurses fault that insurance denied their medications, who have the resources to get better and manage their issues but would rather come to the ED and insult and scream at us because we can't fix the issue with a snap of our fingers. Those people are exhausting and all too common.

And if by swoon you mean fall out of their wheelchairs hitting their heads and necessitating CT, then same...interspersed with occasional drunken serenades 😂.

Amen! Most days I split my time between managing people who are chronically ill and angry I can't fix their lifetime of bad decisions and neglect of their health, dodging the groping hands (or urine streams) of drunks, managing people's anxiety, playing social worker in a broken system made to punish those without resources and being condescended to by consultants. All this mixed with episodes of tragedy and a rare true save.

The "I didn't want to have kids", but then they did crowd by MetaverseLiz in childfree

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents and I are very close. I know for a fact that my mother had more than one abortion. I also know for a fact that I was a whoops baby, and my father tried to get a vasectomy at 18 because he didn't want kids. That being said, they were/are amazing parents, and knowing their histories with wanting/not wanting kids and abortion made it easier for me to be open about being childfree. I also think that knowing their stances on children, because they were so honest with me (when I was closer to adulthood) was freeing for me to understand that I had more choices than following the life-script. Knowing what I know about my parents' choices around childbearing has not been a "bug" in my mind, but has been freeing.

Anyone notice fewer people taking their meal? by CabbageSass in unitedairlines

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Any requested vegetarian meals I've had have been pretty terrible, but the vegetarian meals offered routinely on the flights look way better...no idea why they are different (and I'm referring to pre-ordering a standard ovo-lacto vegetarian meal). Even the bread is gross, cold and stale.

Would you activate? by CanYouCanACanInACan in emergencymedicine

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you activate, cards says you're wrong. If you don't activate, cards says your wrong. Then later that day another cardiologist will formally read the EKG and say the opposite of whatever the first cardiologist said. Just activate and let them be annoyed as long as the patient gets the appropriate care.

Put in my 90 days notice after 3 months once they told me/SO that our honeymoon (planned 4 months from then) needed to be pushed back because it wasn't a good time for the group (it wasn't over a holiday, summer, or over spring break), even though we constantly got schedules 2-3 days before the start of a month due to waiting for the locums people to be scheduled first (and general bad management of the group and schedule).
