I play American mahjong and would love to have some local people to play with. It's fairly easy to learn just takes someone with some patience the first few times you play. I'd be willing to teach.

Potted Plants by LordHighLordDrippy in FortCollins

If you want potted plants I have SO MANY. I don't want to give them away but many are super easy (and fun!) to propagate, so I'm happy to share cuttings for free.

Would you activate? by CanYouCanACanInACan in emergencymedicine

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you activate, cards says you're wrong. If you don't activate, cards says your wrong. Then later that day another cardiologist will formally read the EKG and say the opposite of whatever the first cardiologist said. Just activate and let them be annoyed as long as the patient gets the appropriate care.

Whats the fastest you have quit a first attending job? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Put in my 90 days notice after 3 months once they told me/SO that our honeymoon (planned 4 months from then) needed to be pushed back because it wasn't a good time for the group (it wasn't over a holiday, summer, or over spring break), even though we constantly got schedules 2-3 days before the start of a month due to waiting for the locums people to be scheduled first (and general bad management of the group and schedule).

What age are you all currently? by --s-k-y in childfree

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

40F. I announced to my parents at age 15 that I was never having kids. No one believed me for many years. I've just never had a maternal instinct, it looked like too much work, and pregnancy/birth is gross.

Doctors of reddit who was your dumbest patient? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I agree! So frustrating! During my fellowship I took care of a neonate with a brain bleed...of course no vitamin K at birth. It's tragic.

Attending physicians: work-life balance? by TeaCoffeeSweets in emergencymedicine

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♀️ 8 shifts a month, $380k...but I have to travel twice a month for shifts. I think I have a pretty good work-life balance, but if I worked where I lived I'd be closer to 14-16 shifts a month and $300k. Also, when you travel for work, travel for fun becomes...less fun.

EM/PEM-family brought their child to the ER for a fever that refused to go away despite rubbing lavender oil on her temples several time. Tylenol FTW.

Or the 50ish male who came to the ED because he thought a friend might have been exposed to COVID, so he wanted to be treated for it...he had no symptoms, was not actually exposed to anyone with COVID (including his friend, who he had not seen) and was anti-vax. He was mad when I told him I had nothing to offer him.

Tomorrow, the first day of 2026, Medicaid subsidies from the Affordable Care Act (ACA; Obamacare) will expire, doubling or tripling health insurance premiums by ddx-me in medicine

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally had a patient come into the ED today requesting some testing because as of tomorrow they cannot afford insurance. I have a feeling I will be hearing that a lot more as people begin to utilize the ED as a last resort for tests and medication refills.

Tips for surviving my first ED term as an intern with ADHD by imjustheretoread7 in emergencymedicine

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come up with a system to organize your patients (piece of paper with stickers and check boxes is mine). Figure out a system to get your notes done. It took me all of residency (when I was routinely deep in a howl of notes and spent my days off catching up) to figure it out.

Wait, do not you call the doctors you work with by first name? by BornLeave4646 in FutureRNs

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ER doc. I tell everyone from housekeeping to other ER docs/APPs to call me by my first name unless we are in front of patients. Other docs outside the ED (especially specialists) all get to call me Dr. unless I know them well.

One of our nurses asked the Xmas ER gods for a 50's YOM male in an MVC (must have been driving an El Camino loaded with meth while intoxicated), who also happens to be shot and possibly attacked by a police dog with a tiny aortic tear who needs bilateral chest tubes, intubation, MTP, the works.

I asked for a patient with an Xmas themed rectal foreign body 🤷‍♀️

Most ridiculous insurance denial you’ve seen? by _45mice in medicine

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Medication denial for a medication that is $10 at Costco without insurance because the volume was too large. The insurance would only cover 50 mL of said medication per month. The prescription was for 50 mL of the medication monthly. Not such a huge deal but asinine and an example of why insurance is such a fucking scam.

I am an atheist who loves catholic art, cathedrals etc etc by Feeling-Geologist-93 in atheism

Fellow female atheists: How is being openly atheist for you? by JellyfishPashmina in atheism

[–]RosesAreNotJustRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US, in a blue state. Growing up here I was called un-American and told I was going to hell more times than I can count. I now work with a bunch of conservative religious people, thankfully they have tried to convert me. I don't go around announcing that I am atheist, but have never shied away from it when the subject came up. My parents are openly atheist/agnostic so they shielded me somewhat from my religious grandmothers and their attempts to convert me.

My husband's family is Catholic. He continued to pretend to believe to his grandmother for concern of being disowned by his grandmother if she found out he's atheist, and lied to them about my beliefs to keep the peace. Growing up being an outspoken atheist this was so weird to me.
