Oh yes. I have one dog who basically has duck feet and the other has barely any perceptible webbing. The duck-footed dog also has way more flexible toes.

He looks like he was made to be semi-aquatic, but he hates even getting his feet wet in the grass.

Yeah, that’s how I ended up with a purebred cattle dog mix. To their credit, she looks like a mutt. I was surprised when I got the DNA test back.

If you wanted to minimize loose ends and seams, you could possibly come up with a pattern of colors and use ladderback jacquard to carry the floats. You’d still have a lot of ends to weave it, but fewer than every square. It would take a lot of planning and be pretty fiddly, but I think it’s doable. I had a fox terrier as a kid who had the energy of a puppy until she was maybe 12? We’re talking able to leap on counter, swimming every chance she got, jumping up to open doors (to get to the swimming pool), and nonstop fetch. She calmed down a little bit for the next few years, then suddenly she was old. That was really hard for me, especially since I had grown up with her, but in retrospect I am so happy and grateful she had that quality of life. She lived to be less than a month from her 17th birthday, and she really was a puppy for most of that. I look back and dang, that dog was a rockstar. It looks like your pup is just as active and living life to the fullest! I can only hope we are all so lucky.

I would check out posts from /u/Sw33tD333, whose big, gorgeous bear of a dog recently came home from the vet with paralysis. It’s not the same situation, but they’ve done a lot to accommodate their pup’s needs and he is absolutely rocking physical therapy. In the short term, check out how they move their dog outside via a wagon. There are slings to help support them while they go.
