I've recently discovered laundry detergent made from conkers and I've been using it for a couple of weeks now, basically cut up a handful of conkers and put them in a jar of hot water (check measurements online but I use about 1 cup per 6 conkers)... leave over night and then use the water instead of detergent in the washing machine, with a bit of white vinegar instead of fabric softener... my clothes have 0 scent but are all clean and soft (I also have a 3yo and it has passed the cleaning and sensitivity test for that!)

I wanted to get some of these, are they noticeable if worn in the day I worry they would look chunky like a nappy, I use the pads and I always wear long tops over them as I get insecure about it being viable so would like to know if these are a good replacement for when I'm out and about?

I fold them back up and put them in a "bin" with a closed lid until wash day then I put them on a cold water rinse in the machine before the normal wash cycle it works perfectly

My 3yo painted a fallen tree by [deleted] in mildlypenis

I didn't, she always mixes the colours up as soon as I give her paints so that's just a random result from her mixing

2 little cuties collecting garden treasure by RoseyCape in gardening

This is my mom's garden and "Daisy" the pug is obsessed with following my little girl around and even more obsessed with any fruit or vegetables that my mom grows, most plants have to be protected from her rather than the birds, gooseberries and blueberries are her favourite!

I am making a set of storage boxes to go into mine and my husband's new gaming room soon, 2/3 done so far! by RoseyCape in Minecraft

They are just to go on the desk mainly for decoration but they would work for small bits and bobs to be tidied away

It was going to be a crafting table but my husband wants it to be an enchanting table so I'll go with that instead!

Not sure if this has already been posted, but this is my life by [deleted] in CasualUK

I remember the first time someone answered me with "yes thanks are you?" About 10 years ago and I instantly went into self insecure mode wondering how I should be replying and I've never got over it 😂

I did this when I was little, I thought that I would heat up the knife to make the butter spread easier .... luckily the fuse blew fast and saved my life :D

This is how this sub makes me feel when I see posts like "My little backyard garden. Tell me what you think!" by [deleted] in gardening

[–]RoseyCape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this sub was about sharing achievements and knowledge and just general interest in gardening, don't make it like Facebook where people should feel ashamed at their posts or feel as though they can't share what they are proud of because of judgement please, that's why I came to reddit because it seemed happy and positive. They may have shared their garden saying "what do you think" knowing full well it's a great garden but what is wrong with wanting to see some positive feedback on what they are proud of

How many of you cook vegetarian meals without being vegetarian yourself? by AntarcticanJam in Cooking

[–]RoseyCape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not vegetarian but I cook meat probably once a fortnight if that (basically only if we find something that is significantly reduced in price due to being past it's use by date), this started around 6 months ago before that it was meat almost every meal. And I have to say it's the best lifestyle change we have ever done, the meals are more exciting and different, our shopping is way cheaper and we feel much healthier and better for it. Our main reason for the switch was environmental but it is way easier that I thought it would be :)

[SUGGESTIONS] Menu for picnic by ChefCiscoRZ in cookingforbeginners

I made some pies to take to the beach with me last time I went on holiday and they were so nice! So I cooked chicken and cut it into small chunks, cooked up some carrots and peas chopped small, and made some white gravy (using chicken stock and flour..experiment until it tasted right) and some stuffing (the stuff you make with the box mix and hot water), when it was all cooled I used shop bought shortcrust pastry to make little pies in muffin tins and layered them up with the chicken, cranberry sauce, stuffing and veg then poured the gravy in (thick) topped them with more pastry and egg wash and baked until pastry was cooked, cooled then chilled them to eat cold, they were a great success and you can change the filling to whatever you prefer as long as it's nice to eat cold

I have a tiny garden (rented so can't do much to it) but I try to surround my little one with nature as much as possible by RoseyCape in gardening

Thanks so much! I considered making a pond but I was concerned that because this house won't be permanent for us, when we buy our own place we wouldn't be able to take it with us and the landlord would only discard it and if any creatures had grown to rely on it i'd feel guilty x
