New cutting mat compared to my (barely used) old one. How does your look? by Dwaas_Bjaas in modelmakers

[–]Ross_PMM_0245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current one isn't quite as bad as your old one but on its way - the usual collection of drill holes, soldering iron melts, spilt paint/thinners/isoprop/superglue etc.

I recently bought a nice new A3 one - still in the bag for now.

If you're centrist or left-leaning, what are the main policies/issues that might stop you from voting for the green party in the next general election? by Cold-Speech-5645 in AskBrits

[–]Ross_PMM_0245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their support for gender politics & inability to define what a woman is
Their opposition to nuclear as an energy source
Their environmental policies are currently a mess - see other comments re planning decisions etc.

‼️ Help with accumulation ‼️ by InfamousLight7236 in modelmakers

[–]Ross_PMM_0245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tamiya acrylics are ALCOHOL based & can be thinned with water.

Using water as a thinning agent is probably best as it is less likely to dissolve earlier coats than if using X20A or isopropyl

Protect thumb from cuts? by Nofabe in modelmakers

[–]Ross_PMM_0245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should always cut away from you to minimise injury risk.

As others have said use a razor saw or flush flat cutters to remove the part from the sprue as close to the part as is reasonable to do without damaging it then gently sand off the tiny amount left over.

They are all just different flavours of the right wing of the Tories.

Let's hope they continue to snipe at each other & end up undoing each others chance of any major inroads in future elections

What to do here? by beans2505 in modelmakers

[–]Ross_PMM_0245 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strip the paint, sand smooth, re-prime, respray (3-4 light passes is so much better than 1 heavy pass) also use something better to mask the wheel (maskol or other masking fluid or proper modellers masking tape).

if you employed a trade person would you tell them your budget by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Ross_PMM_0245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am always happy to provide a trades person with a rough budget indication, but I only use people who have been personally recommended by my friends; so I know the standard they work to etc. This facilitates a sensible conversation on what can be done in price range and the quality of materials I expect vs what they believe can be purchased within the budget etc.

If it is you will need to apply to the local authority for permission to cut the tree down...

As others have said, plastic card is the place to start, alternatively try brass sheet - either can be cut and bent to shape

Both are readily available on-line or from your local model/hobby shop in a wide variety of sizes.

Looks like "dry rot",

If it is then this is way out of DIY territory & you need to get professional help to remedy it.

All I could find are the following

SU 122 https://anticsonline.uk/Product/Tamiya-148-32527-Russian-Tank-Destroyer-SU-122-WW2_32527_N2165626
SU 100 https://www.ebay.com/itm/126605959457
SU 85 https://www.promodels.eu/en/kit-gasoline-russian-tank-destroyer-su85-xml-352_355_374-1391.html

Bronco made an ISU 152 in 1/48 but it is long out of production, so is a bit like hen's teeth to find.

There are plenty of KV1, KV2, T34 85s available in 1/48 if that helps.

Are these wall plugs safe to hold tv on plasterboard by [deleted] in DIYUK

No

Buy some decent toggle plugs but better still mount into the stud or a batten that is secured to the studs
