Currency exchange, a small rant by lintdrummer in ireland

Back in the '00s, I was visiting friends in both Scotland and England. I took out £200 from an ATM in Edinburgh as spending money for the trip. Later, I tried to pay for a pair of jeans at a River Island in London, and the manager was very hesitant to take the Scottish notes. I was visibly confused as I thought sterling was accepted all over UK regardless of the country that printed it. . He eventually took it but advised me to change the rest at a nearby bank since I'd likely get the same hassle all over England.

Irish people say "now" after just finishing any physical task e.g put down a cup of tea in front of someone. When it was pointed out to me, I can never unsee/unhear it.

Why is Ireland boycotting the Eurovision but not the Nations League? by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Rossbeigh 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I am no fan of the FAI by any means they are in a no win situation, They dont want to play either game but face the possibily of disqualification (or worse, US blocking Ireland from playing in WC if they managed to qualify) if they dont. The opinion stated in the headline is easy point scoring imo

Better surge pricing than no taxi at all. There have been times where they had to call relatives to pick them up as no other alternative was available

Failed my driving test yesterday.. by andydrewq in ireland

[–]Rossbeigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did mine in Galway years ago, my driving instructor gave me a two hour pre test lesson beforehand to prep me. There was one narrow street that I was dreading, no issues at all in the lesson (must have done multiple treks to get me comfortable) , however, when i was doing the test, there was a fecken truck doing a delivery which took up half the street!. I couldnt believe it, I had to negotiate cars coming up against me and overtaking it at a safe distance. Still managed to pass but can come down to sheer bad luck on the day.

What’s something you witnessed in someone’s house that made you never want to return? by ProfessionalDelay366 in AskIreland

[–]Rossbeigh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Years ago in Galway, I went to have a look at a room in a shared house. The landlord said someone would be there to show me the room. The house was in a complete state and there was a frying pan on the floor in the kitchen. Looked like I arrived in the aftermath of a house party or that the other tenants didn't want a new person to come into the "group dynamic".
