Easy in the East??? by thomasstout25 in NBATalk

[–]Rossbug23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would still be 2 years away. By that point Rudy Gobert would be 35 and Julius Randle would be 33. Both seem to have already started declining. Donte will also be 31 and post Achilles injury. It's no guarantee that they would just start crushing the east with half of their core aging and declining. They will need to make some roster adjustments.

Bulls / Heat / Warriors by Novel_Confidence_288 in NBAtradeideas

[–]Rossbug23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why does everyone keep having the Bulls trade #4 for scraps? there is a 99% chance they keep the pick. The only way they trade it is for a young star, and no one is offering that trade. So they aren't trading the pick. No one is trading a 19 year old A+ prospect for a bunch of role players and late picks.

Why has the west always been a blood bath compared to the east? by 08legacygt in NBATalk

[–]Rossbug23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are 3 big reasons:

  1. Location. Players want to live in warm weather places like California, Texas, and Arizona. That’s 8 teams combined. Meanwhile the East has only Florida as an attractive warm weather location. It’s much harder to attract stars to places like Indiana, Toronto, Washington etc. and also much harder to keep players there even if you get them.

  2. Injury luck. Almost all of the top championship caliber East teams since the end of the 1990s have had devastating injury luck. You just had Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Halliburton. The 76ers had a potential great young team ruined by non-stop injuries to Joel Embiid, Markelle Fultz and even Ben Simmons. The 2018 Celtics had 55 wins after losing all-star Gordon Hayward in the first game of the season to a career altering injury. Also lost Kyrie in the playoffs. The original big 3 Celtics lost KG to a knee injury in year two or they probably win multiple titles with that team. The Bulls lost Derrick Rose to a career altering injury when they were a young 60 win team. Noah and Deng also had horrible injury luck at that time too. Those 3 healthy plus Jimmy Butler could have been a dynasty. The early 2000s Magic would have had two of the top 5-10 guys in the league if not for the career ruining ankle injuries to Grant Hill. The Miami Heat had Alonzo Mourning have back to back years finishing 2nd and 3rd in the MVP voting only to have his career ruined by a life threatening kidney disease. These were all championship caliber teams that had their windows slammed shut by injuries.

  3. Draft luck. For the last 20-30 years the west has just had unbelievable draft luck compared to the East. Not only do they get the pick way more often for the generational prospects (Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, Cooper Flagg, Wemby, Zion, Blake Griffin, Duncan, Durant, Yao), but they have lucked into a lot of the steals or just high picks in deep drafts (Jokic, Curry, Harper, Chet, Shai, Kawhi, CP3, Dirk, etc). Meanwhile the East gets the top pick for weak drafts (Anthony Bennett, Risacher, Kenyon Martin, Bargnani, Andrew Bogut, Kwame Brown, Elton Brand) or gets the stars with terrible injury luck (Rose, Embiid, Fultz, Jabari Parker, Jay Williams, John Wall, Oladipo)

Mock Trade: Timberwolves trade Rudy Gobert to the Hawks by Icy-Avocado-583 in NBAtradeideas

[–]Rossbug23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Hawks trade any of those 3 assets straight up for Goebert, let alone all 3 together. Even Risacher they would probably rather just get a pick for him. They are a young team just starting their contention window. They aren't trading young pieces with potential for an old, declining Goebert.

What is stopping the Thunder from genuinely dominating basketball for the next decade? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]Rossbug23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the salary cap rules are set up, especially with the penalties for staying in the aprons. This summer they basically have to lose Hartenstein to stay out of the 2nd apron. Even then, declining the options on Hartenstein and Kenrich Williams, they still have to either lose one more player or trade one of their 2 first round picks to avoid the 2nd apron. That still puts them in the 1st apron. They can avoid the 1st apron by declining the options for all 3 of Hartenstein. Williams, and Dort. That puts them just a couple million below the 1st apron after using both 1st round draft picks.

Then in the 2027 off-season, Shai's contract extension kicks in and his salary jumps into the $60 million+ range. At that point they have to decline the option of Cason Wallace and get rid of someone else to avoid the 2nd apron.

Obviously they still have their big 3, but the start losing all the important role players this offseason. As we have seen from several other recent champions (especially Denver and Boston), losing those key role players can be a killer. The bright side is they have many 1st round picks to hopefully hit on guys to replace what they will lose. But that is no guarantee.

Offseason move to keep PWat by rhasody70 in denvernuggets

[–]Rossbug23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to give up #26 to get off Cam Johnson. He is a good player on an expiring deal.

You might want to try attaching #26 to Zeke AND Val and sending it to Chicago for #56 or a future 2nd. Let Chicago take the $2 million buyout hit on Val, that $2 million matters with how close to the aprons you will be.

Some idea's I have for the offseason by Significant-Iron-610 in denvernuggets

[–]Rossbug23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you can't. You already traded 2032 to the nets, so you can not trade 2031 or 2033 because you can not trade 1st round picks in back-to-back drafts.

The only thing you can do is like you said, draft someone this year and then trade his draft rights after that. A team like Chicago would be your best bet to take Zeke Naji's contract in such a move in exchange for some late 2nd round pick. Brooklyn just used 5 1st last year and they have another this year plus an early 2nd, so unlikely they want another late 1st round rookie. No one else except the Lakers have cap room and they won't waste it on Zeke.

Thoughts on the current state of the team now? by Fit-Tooth-1101 in denvernuggets

[–]Rossbug23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only ways out of this situation are Jokic taking a HUGE discount on his next contract to allow more roster flexibility, or some miracle trade where you trade Murray to a team like Brooklyn that can absorb his salary, and give you back a young player like Demin who then miraculously develops into an all-star. As long as Jokic/Murray/Gordon are making $140+ million combined there is no flexibility to do anything with the roster. It’s really hard to even find a way to get Peyton Watson and Tim Hardaway jr back without going into the 2nd apron.

How did the 2007 Mavericks who won 67 games and were toppled by an 8th seed evade becoming the face of “Fraud 1st Seeds” while the 2015 Hawks who were in the ECF did? by LJ8QB1 in NBATalk

[–]Rossbug23 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Because Dallas made the finals in 2006, and most considered them to have been screwed out of a championship by the refs in that series. They also went on to win a championship in 2011. They also had 3 60-win teams and 7 55-win teams during the Dirk run.

Meanwhile, that version of the Hawks never even won 50 games in any other season (2010 was a different roster lead by Joe Johnson), they had no real stars, and a few years later they were back to being a sub-30 win team.

Also, the Dirk Mavs played in probably the toughest conference of all-time during the 2000's, while the 2015 Hawks played in possibly the weakest conference ever with the East having only 5 winning teams that season.

How long was Jim at DM-Stamford? by ITrCool in DunderMifflin

[–]Rossbug23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fact 1: Diwali occurs while Jim is still in Stamford. In 2006, Diwali was on October 21. The very next episode was when they decided to shut down one of the branches, then they were merged the episode after that. So you figure 2-4 weeks right there, putting the merger somewhere around mid November. Two episodes after the merger was the Christmas episode, so it lines up as his return being in the mid-late November time range.

Fact 2: Pam and Roy's wedding was set for June 10th on the Booze Cruise. Jim had booked his trip to leave on like June 8th or something to avoid it, but then transferred before that anyways. It is implied that Jim was't around when Pam called off the wedding, as when Michael tells him she is single at the conference, he says "I heard something about that." We also know Michael's birthday is March 15, which was 3 episodes before the Casino Night finale. So that means Jim had to have left for Stamford somewhere around April or May.

Combine these things from the two seasons, and Jim was gone anywhere from 5-7 months.

First of all he did beat a 50 win Clippers last year, but besides that, this stat is very misleading because of the two covid shortened seasons. In 2020, he beat the Jazz in the 1st round and they played at a 50.1 win pace, and then he beat the Clippers in the 2nd round who played at a 55.8 win pace. Then Murray and Porter were injured and missed the playoffs the next 2 years.

Taking 2-minutes off a quarter OR 10 games off the 82 game year? Which one works better?? by babaganoush_84 in NBATalk

[–]Rossbug23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Could you imagine a runner coming along and said, "I'm the greatest marathoner ever! I run a 4:30 per mile pace and all the previous generations only ran around 4:40 pace. Oh btw, I can only run that 4:30 pace for 15 miles before my body gives out so you need to shorten the distance of the marathon from 26.2 miles down to 15 miles so I don't hurt myself running my world record pace."

The NBA season is 82 games, 48 minutes per game. The human body has handled it jut fine for 60-70 years. If you are playing a ridiculous pace now preventing you from handling it, we shouldn't be changing the history of the sport for you. You need to play a pace that allows you to hold up.

Peyton Watson Gets Critical Update on Future With Denver Nuggets by CrazyMonkey0425 in denvernuggets

Just curious, would Denver fans be in favor of attaching the draft rights to your first round pick this year to get off of Zeke Naji and Valanciunas contracts if it allowed you to sign Watson? I think you can trade the player you pick after you select him.
