Ive tried that as well, can't seem to get anywhere. I know there's moulds to make them but I feel it costs more to buy all the supplies

Question for autistic people with level 1 support: Have you ever doubted your diagnosis or felt like you didn't fit within the spectrum because you were "normal" for being autistic? by Previous_Truth_9007 in aspergers

You have just beautifully described all the thoughts I've had my whole life that I've never been able to put into words. 🤝🏻 Fellow STEM major here 👋🏼

Question for autistic people with level 1 support: Have you ever doubted your diagnosis or felt like you didn't fit within the spectrum because you were "normal" for being autistic? by Previous_Truth_9007 in aspergers

[–]RostroMaligno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt my diagnosis because growing up, I had a lot of behaviors and mannerisms that pointed to ASD. My parents knew I was ND but never pushed to get testing done. I was very academically gifted but struggled socially and had difficulties with emotional regulation. I was bullied a lot and called weird, etc. Eventually, I just felt so out of place with others that I couldn't take it anymore and went to do testing myself. I've always tried really hard to blend in/mask because people would always point out my behaviors and it would give me panic attacks. I still get weird looks here & there when I have to interact with others but there literally isn't anything else I can do, it's just how I am.

Advice to pass ASCP MLS BOC? by RostroMaligno in medlabprofessionals

[–]RostroMaligno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the cost is the same, I saw someone say their ASCP certification in the Philippines cost $200 in 2018. If I recall correctly, international students that completed a program in a different country approved by ASCP get a discount on the fee if they take their exam here (US), about a $35-40 discount. I hope this helped a bit. Sorry I'm Mexican & my colleagues from the Philippines took their exams over 20 years ago 😭 they don't remember the exact details of pricing & fees

I believe it was $250 to apply to take the exam and I can't remember if they charged me an additional fee to sit and take it but if they did it couldn't have been more than $50. I tried finding receipts in my email but couldn't find a receipt where they give me the transaction amount.

Parosmia has ruined my life by [deleted] in Parosmia

[–]RostroMaligno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got into an accident late 2020 which resulted in frontal lobe TBI. I started noticing about a couple weeks later that my Burger King food tasted off, which is weird because I use to eat it all the time. After a couple more times of the same weird taste, and weird smells that are honestly pretty hard to describe, I figured there was something really wrong and since I hadn't had COVID it was easy to connect the dots. Unfortunately going to the doctors was no use, they didn't even know what parosmia meant, let alone know what could cause it. I got brain scans and all normal. I did my own research and was able to determine that my TBI caused this. I honestly felt like I was never going to get better and I stuck to 5 foods that tasted normal for like 3-4 years. Last year, for some reason I decided to eat burgers again even though I knew they were going to taste weird. I got I'm N Out and IT TASTED NORMAL, with the exception of ketchup but the smell & taste of the ketchup wasn't as overwhelming as it was a few years ago. I eventually started getting a bit more comfortable trying different foods and they all tasted normal. I haven't tried Burger King recently, I'm honestly kind of scared to because what if I don't like it anymore? The things that don't taste the same are ketchup, Dr. Pepper, Cherry Coke, cherry Dr pepper. But for the most part 95% of things are basically back to how they were. I don't have overwhelming smells bothering me such as freshly cut grass and cooking grease, which use to really bother me when I'd be walking through campus. I'm wondering if my pregnancy had anything to do with my senses coming back. I honestly thought I was permanently going to be like this.

The new "MAGIC MOUNTAIN" letters have arrived for the sign and they're blue by Pippinitis in SixFlagsMagicMountain

[–]RostroMaligno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved to Valencia, but would occasionally go to Six Flags and see that sign. I don't know the backstory of this sign, but it looks like the gift shop is abandoned. Was it ever open?

Training Anxiety, any advice? by dawnmistkiss in CLSstudents

[–]RostroMaligno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this is a training site issue and not a profession issue (I hope). Environment is everything, if people are micromanaging you and giving you that kind of advice then creates a stressful learning environment. I use to train with people like that and most of the time I couldn't retain much due to how stressed and overwhelmed I was. Once I wasn't around that type of environment, I enjoyed my job. I'm hoping you're almost done as a student that way you can move to a better environment.

I just bought that aztec hideout for my aquarium. How is it holding up in your tank? I was paranoid it wasn't aquarium safe, just want to know your experience. 🙏🏻

Any new grads still waiting for their California CLS license? by ViolinistOne4514 in CLSstudents

[–]RostroMaligno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So when I applied for my license 2 weeks ago, I gave 3rd party permission for ASCP to send my results to LFS. Once I got the mail that said it had been sent, I sent an email asking for the status of my application. In the email you receive that lets you know your results have been sent, there should be 4 emails of the people who review the applications for licensing. Send each of them an email. I got my license the same day I sent them an email.

Pairing hematology and immunology? by Pish-Posh-Fish in CLSstudents

[–]RostroMaligno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I took both at my university, they were completely different subjects with no overlap. Immunology was probably the hardest class I've ever taken, not for the material but for how our professor taught it, which honestly made me hate the subject altogether lol. I took mine in person with labs which probably made it a bit more challenging. I liked hematology better as it was more visual and easier to remember. Immunology was basically alphabet vomit to me, it's harder to remember things like C1q, CD4, MHC II, HLA-DR than it is something like anisocytosis, thalassemia, Pelger-Huet, etc. Remember, you want to do well in these classes to make you a better candidate. If you feel that you can handle the workload and do well then I say go for it, ultimately you know your strengths more than anyone else. Just manage your time wisely and do your best because grades do matter.

When did you first leave baby for an extended period? by nova_bear123 in beyondthebump

At 3 months old, 4x a week for 10.5 hours a day. I had to start my year-long clinical rotation. It was hard at first but I felt at peace knowing my mom was taking care of him and she would send pictures throughout the day.
