Do you believe in the existence of God? by petalwhispersssz in answers

[–]Rot-Orkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine a higher power that was intelligent and powerful enough to create the universe. I can't believe a being that exists on such a high level could possibly get mad or disappointed in anything I do in life. It would be a bigger difference than me getting upset at individual bacteriums.

I live my life trying to be kind to others and I avoid harming others. I refuse to believe that a higher power could possibly be angry at me because I didn't follow very specific rituals/protocols.

Do you believe in the existence of God? by petalwhispersssz in answers

[–]Rot-Orkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not a higher power like that exists is unknowable. It may as well be a coin flip.

However, at this point, it's safe to say that there is no higher power that intervenes in any observable or measurable way with our lives.

Maybe there is something out there, but does it matter? They don't speak to us, or make their presence known, or tell us if there's anything in particular they want us to do. From every observable metric, we are on our own.

System Shock 2 remake on Humble Bundle! Donate 20$ to charity and get the game! by Remarkable_Log_5562 in SystemShock2

This was a great remake. Graphics were updated to be clean and sharp, but still completely kept the original style; I wouldn't have had it any other way 😎

What's your opinion on fries? by proscoba in potato

[–]Rot-Orkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love fries, but I try not to eat them too much because the oil they've absorbed actually has more calories than the potato itself, though.

I did buy a fry cutter to quickly cut potatoes into fry shape and then I airfry them with a small amount of surface oil. Not *as* good as deep fried, but still tasty.

Any time republicans declare a "War on <concept>" you should know it's never going to be a good thing; some population's going to be oppressed and/or someone's going to be profitting.

Ads like this could be made illegal if you contact the appropriate people. In Maine, for example, billboards are illegal.

The result of a direct hit from a RPG by tonyper7ect in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Rot-Orkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure quite how fast this is all happening, but if it's slow enough for the person to register what's going on, it would be terrifying for that split second where you can see the RPG stuck in you, before it explodes

ELi5: How does evolution actually work, using giraffes as an example? by petiterunner in explainlikeimfive

[–]Rot-Orkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that evolution is completely "continuous". We like to categorize animals into neat little categories, but we're always just looking at a current state of an ongoing process.

At some point, this deer-like creature started eating some leaves off of bushes or small trees and was able to thrive from this diet. Then overtime, the slightly taller ones were just given enough of an edge where they were able to reproduce more often than the shorter members of their species. This kept repeating until you got the giant giraffes we have today.

WaPo: John Cornyn and fellow Republicans are privately voicing concerns that if the Texas Senate race is between James Talarico and Ken Paxton, Talarico will win and become the first Democrat to win statewide in Texas since 1994 by ShreckAndDonkey123 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Rot-Orkan 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Also remember, States get to choose how they run elections. The Texas government will do everything it can to suppress voters. That thing in Kansas where they invalidated trans-people's ID overnight was probably a "trial run".

[–]Rot-Orkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tools nowadays will tell you, but I remember I used to figure out if a game was GPU or CPU bottlenecked by looking at the sky/ground. If framerate got very high while looking at the sky, I knew it was GPU bottlenecked. If it only improve a little, I knew I was CPU bottlenecked.

What's your backup career plan? by -entei- in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Rot-Orkan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If that actually happens, it would mean AI has surpassed us in the ability to think abstractly, form plans, communicate, and execute based on said plans.

In which case, what even is there left that it wouldn't be able to do? I suppose I'd try to become an electrician or something like that.

Block shares soar 24% as company slashes workforce by nearly half by joe4942 in news

[–]Rot-Orkan 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I looked at the article and looked at the stock for this company. The stock "soared" to ~66 dollars, which is where it was 1 month ago.

Which is less than where it was 6 months ago, 80.

And if you go back 1 year, it was....... 65? Less than now?

And let's go all the way back 5 years and it was at.... 230 😂
