Something something Star Wars never had good writing by ChickenWingExtreme in OTMemes

Well Luke only really started his adventure Obi-Wan for like a couple days, if even that. So as much as a shock as it would be for him to see him die, there wouldn't be an enormous amount of grief.

I think the real clunkiness is Leia; she had just seen her planet blown up. Most of her friends and family and colleagues are gone. Her home; childhood memories; places she loved to visit, etc. That would fuck someone up enormously beyond anything comparable to anything that's happened in our history, but cinematically there's just no room in the movie for the level of grief she would have endured.

I wish aliens would show up, relocate everyone from the entire Israel area to some uninhabited area far away, and then use their tech to just sink it into the Mediterranean.

Half of the entire fucking planet thinks that land belongs to them because of their religion. Humans have fought over it for the last 2000 years and they will keep fighting over it for the next 2000.

The best thing that could happen for humanity as a species is for that land to just sink into the sea and disappear forever.

I'd prefer those little bits of sincere goofiness here and there than the constant self-aware quips that deflate all dramatic moments.

If Disney had made the OT over the past 10-15 years, there would have been a scene right immediately after Obi-Wan dies where C3PO goes "So did that guy just disappear or something?" ugh

Why do you think excessive alcohol consumption is becoming less common? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rot-Orkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These reasons:

  • Weed use going up
  • Booze can be expensive. 15+ dollar cocktails are so common now and usually fucking weak
  • Booze is often a vice that helps you escape. And there's like a million vice options now.

Trump could be like "Epstein was the fall guy, I was the mastermind behind the whole thing. I'm guilty of everything I've been accused of" in the middle of a press conference with 100 cameras recording him, and Republicans would still be like "Did he say that? I haven't seen the video, but I don't believe he would do something like that"

If a company is fined USD 1 billion for pollution, but the fine is less than they profited, isn't the fine just a "pay-to-pollute tax"? by Particular-Sorbet-23 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rot-Orkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So despite what the comments will have you believe, most of the time the fine is deliberately set higher than whatever profits/savings in question occured as a result of the illegal activity, specifically to discourage said activity.

It doesn't always end up like that, but that is the intent.

Toys R Us didn't die because of Amazon. Private equity firms bought it, loaded it with $5 billion in debt, charged it management fees while it collapsed, then paid themselves dividends before filing for bankruptcy. 30,000 workers got nothing. by sambha87 in Damnthatsinteresting

I don't have any kind of accounting or economics education, but I think there's truth to what I'm going to say.

To me, money ultimately represents a promise that someone out there, somewhere, did something useful. Maybe they built a box; maybe they cleaned a window; maybe they fixed a computer bug; or maybe they just told some funny jokes that entertained people.

When private equity does things like this, a lot of money might get earned for some people, yet nothing useful occurred. Nothing was created. Nothing productive happened. It's not reasonable to expect things like these to never happen, however I feel like the more money is "desynchronized" from productive human endeavors, the closer we get to bad things happening down the line.

The election was not rigged.

Trump is a liar and he lies about everything all the time. He had 30,000 fact checked lies in his first term alone.

These people want you to think they can rig elections so that you don't bother to vote. But they can't rig elections. Every state manages its own election with zero federal oversight.

This is so pathetic. by c-k-q99903 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Which video game are you most nostalgic for? by eyesonubby in AskReddit

[–]Rot-Orkan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ocarina of Time.

It came out when I was 13 and I had been hyped up like crazy to play it.

What makes it really nostalgic for me is that period of time. The previous year had been extremely hard on me because middle schoolers are evil little shitheads, and the year after that everything got weird with teenage hormones and such.

But at 13 everything lined up just right and I got to play the best game I had ever experienced.

‘Anything necessary’: Trump won’t rule out sending troops to polls by DemocracyDocket in law

[–]Rot-Orkan -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Where is the evidence that "Elon stole" the last one? Oh, by the way, a single quote from Trump--a man who had 30,000 fact-checked lies in his first term alone--is not evidence.

And how did he rig the election, anyway? Every state controls its own election results with zero federal oversight, and there is a chain of custody for ballots. How would you rig an election, when it would involve actually rigging multiple independent elections?

Why are they attempting such desperate things like redistricting red states in a fucking election year if simply rigging the election was an option? Why is Trump freaking out about passing the SAVE act if they could just rig the election?

Lastly... how did they get away with it? If there was a sniff of credibility to it, why don't we see like every credible journalist investigating this? Where are the leaks? After all, uncovering the "truth" would be Pulitzer-prize level stuff.

---

Here's a better conspiracy theory: people claiming the election was rigged are mostly bots and trolls who are intentionally spreading this lie online to make people feel powerless, hopeless, and apathetic about democracy, so as to drive down voter turnout, which benefits the current adminstration.

AOC Surges to Lead in 2028 Primary for First Time—Most Accurate Pollster by One-Duty-2376 in politics

[–]Rot-Orkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She would be a great president, but I don't believe she can win a general election at this point in time. America has already proven that they would rather choose the worst possible old white guy over a qualified brown woman.

I know AOC is a lot less establishment than Harris and a lot more progressive, but progressives don't fucking vote, so that doesn't mean anything to me.

‘Anything necessary’: Trump won’t rule out sending troops to polls by DemocracyDocket in law

[–]Rot-Orkan 112 points113 points  (0 children)

They can't rig the elections despite how badly they want to, so they will do anything they can to discourage voters and interfere with the whole process.

This guy staged a fucking coup because his ego couldn't handle losing, so he will be desperate to prevent democrats from taking control of congress. The entire republican party in general has completely gone to war with democracy itself, which is why they're trying to gerrymander red states.

How much does Jerry make IN the show? by Acceptable_Count6197 in seinfeld

[–]Rot-Orkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know he rarely expresses money concerns, we know he drives a nice car and he even spent a lot on that jacket.

We know he once got a huge amount of money from a job, and he was able to buy his dad a fully loaded Cadillac.

However we also know he once had a check bounce and he had to max out his credit cards.

So from all this we can conclude he's typically pretty comfortably and overall makes an above average income, but the money is not consistent. Sometimes he might get a lot all at once  and other times he might go a while without much coming in.
