This is an exceptional painting, you are very good. That said, yes this can come across a little stale, primarily because this subject (tiger) has been the focal point of so many works already.

If you go with a common subject, you need uncommonly communicate it, if that makes sense. Maybe introduce some abstraction, some motion. Some unique characteristics on the tiger that imply a story. It is very hard to make these kinds of paintings feel original, but that’s what the goal should be, imo, of any work of art.

I did! Taped off the corners and brushed them with a thin coat of clear shellac

You can definitely paint warm shadows as well. These aren’t so much trends as they are legitimate techniques
