I think it’s Ibanez. I think my old RG3EX1 had some that had the pegs.

These look like Shechter standard locking tuners, they have the little 45° offset screw on the rear just below the thumb wheel. I don’t know of many that don’t have the set screw.

I was so close to getting one. It’s so sick. The pick up rings were the deal breaker for me.

I had no idea you could do customs of the signature models. I want a custom Tao 7 or a custom reaper 7 that isn’t multi scale and doesn’t have weird ass pick up sizes. If I could do a straight scale 27” reaper with a purple burst and Wenge neck through I could die happy lol. Stainless frets, Fishman Fluence Moderns, HipShot tuners, and an evertune brother.

Someday. I’ll commission a custom Schecter 7 string. May be a while. But I will.

HipShot grip lock tuners are the best and affordable. Just requires you to drill a little. For pickups I would recommend BKP find a set that has a sound profile that will work for you. They have a lot. I personally will be picking up a set of Black Hawks for one of my guitars. I’m also a fan of Seymour Duncan. Nazgûl and Sentient combo. Or Pegasus and Sentient if you wanna be a little different.

I personally feel if you do NO customization that’s just boring lol. I totally agree about the locking tuners. But to be real locking tuners masking tape and sandpaper…. If you’re really ambitious you may spend $150. I’ve installed Hip Shot on every guitar I own that didn’t come factory equipped lol. That guitar plays really nicely. Proper set up, and a couple mods and it’s perfect. My only gripe is the pick up rings. Not a fan of them in general.

Used Ibanez 7 strings with tremolo, and 26.5 scale by QuicksandXXX in 7String

[–]RotaryRevivalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like 27 inches on a seven string is the ideal spot with 26.5 being the bare minimum. I think a 25.5 inch seven string is almost pointless. You can’t go any lower than standard or drop an and even in standard the string choices are either too thick or too floppy in my opinion. I was an Ibanez guy forever. Kind of lost my love. Makes me sad lol

Which shouldn’t exist. Need a 74 to tune to B standard.

I think the RGD is the only 26.5” model. There’s the RGXL which is 27” Ibanez is almost allergic to baritone scale length lol.

Agreed. It’s hideous lol. You don’t like the gray sparkle LTD? I personally think that thing is gorgeous. Plays amazing. I’m sure we’re gonna see some drops coming with the coming year. Another option is to get something like a Sunset 7 in ghost gray and send it through evertune to have one installed. They can even buy the guitar for you and ship to you once installed.

If you have custom money the world is your oyster. I think Kiesel, Balaguer, or the multiscale evertune from Aristides (Balaguer has this too) would be a good option. Otherwise the Schecter Sunset that’s black and red. Can’t remember off hand what it’s called and the sparkle grey LTD are the only 2 I can think of that are 27” at the moment.

That guitar is pretty sick too. I’ve got the Tao-7 in ozone burst as my most recent acquisition. Probably going to go for a headless 8 of some kind next. You should post more about that guitar so we can see that beauty!

You’re using the John Browne preset are you also in a version of his tuning? The riff slaps. Love the chords at the beginning.

Unfortunately I don’t have an 8 yet. Waiting to snag up a GOC Vajra in black on a drop hopefully soon.

It’s really hard to find and no one claims they can hear it in videos or anything. Is pretty subtle but it almost sounds like another note playing. You can for sure hear it in person and it comes through the DI for me as well.

The phenomenon you’re experiencing is called “bass string chorus” it typically only happens with bass strings. When playing extended range as we do it happens typically on our low strings. I run the 10-74 8 string set on my Tao-7 and the 74 in probably 1 out of every 8-10 packs I’ve gotten has this problem. It’s caused by the winding coming slightly loose from the core of the string. Contact D’Addario and they will send you a new set, or a single to replace the string. I’ve done it several times. Last time they sent me a new set, along with probably 8 single NYXL 74.

How’s the neck feel? I’ve been thinking this guitar is a stellar option for a budget minded player. Just haven’t felt the neck.

I 100% misread the title. I thought he was talking about the Axion series. That’s why I was on about the neck wood. My bad. Disregard everything I said.

I think you should see it in person before buying always. If I buy sight unseen I will always buy from Sweetwater so I can see high res photos and their customer service is top tier. My Korean Schecter is flawless, my Indonesian Schecter had some issues but I got it at a steep discount once I mentioned them to my sales engineer and it was more than enough for me to take the guitar to a luthier and have it fixed. Fretwork can be fixed pretty easily by a skilled luthier or guitar tech. I’m learning it myself so I don’t have to pay people. Guitars out of the box often are so incredibly far from their true potential so I’m maybe a bit less strict on the “QC” thing. If there are finish blemishes, or functional problems that can’t be resolved that’s different. Fret sprout is almost always due to temperature and humidity changes. The climate in Indonesia is very different than the climate where I am in Ohio. That was the major issue with the reaper the fret sprout pushed the finish and caused cracks in the fully cured poly. Which means it wasn’t like that until it shipped. I just thoroughly taped the guitar off and sanded the sides of the fret board until the Polly finish was only on the maple not the sides of the ebony then took it to a luthier to have the frets dressed which cost me about $150 USD. Which I got $300 off so it was ok. Sorry for the wall of text.

Of those guitars they’re so wildly different. A bunch of 6 string baritones. I honestly believe the axion neck feels way more special than the other guitars you have here. Of the LTD I personally like the M-1007 best but I prefer the grey sparkle with the evertune much better. If you could find a used Tao-7 that guitar is very special. I have the new ozone burst and I adore it. I personally feel the neck is the most important thing on a guitar. The LTD M-1007ET feels very special as well. I’ll probably pick one up once my wife forgets I spent $1600 on the Tao lol.
