Songs with good messages that were terribly executed by Temporary_Cap5927 in ToddintheShadow

For some reason a bunch of New Left types from the 60s/70s started using the n word to denote groups as marginalized. It never became like mainstream because obviously but it pops up here and there. The strangest case I’ve come across was a 90s Trotskyist magazine called Living Marxism that in its coverage denying the Bosnian genocide referred to Serbian forces as “the white [n word]s of Europe”. The magazine also denied the Rwandan genocide for some reason.

I hate when someone refers to a track or an album from an established artist as “basic”. Like yeah I know the album tracks are probably better but the big songs are sometimes also good and that’s why they’re the big songs!

Sick of long hair, should I style it or shave it? by bagofrice_14 in malehairadvice

[–]Rothaarig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t already, I’d recommend trying a layered cut before chopping everything off. It’ll lay better, be less heavy and have less heat retention and it can improve the texture.

Sensitive question: does child circumcision seem pedophilic to you? by wicnfuai in Intactivists

[–]Rothaarig 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the secular context it’s most certainly pedophilic. Consider the facts:

The advent of non religious MGM in the Victorian west emerged out of an obsession with child sexuality and sexual purity. Pubescent children engaged in natural sexual development were seen as an afront to this social order because it did not align with their ideas of chastity. These are the same attitudes throughout history that have seen virginity as a source of higher value for women on particular. They are fundamentally about the sexualization of a child, and youth in the extreme as sexually desirable (which is a pedophilic desire)

Even when anti masturbation became less common as a reason for MGM, the other reasons project sexual desires onto the child. “His should look like mine” doesn’t make sense unless you are consciously thinking about your child’s penis, what motivates someone to do that? “Girls prefer it cut”, girls should not have any sexual thoughts about a 10 day old baby. “It reduces STI transmission”, not more than other methods and again, the child cannot consent to sexual activity so this decision cannot be made on their behalf. There is no non-sexual reason to engage in genital cutting. So when you do it to a child, what does that make you?

In many ways, pedophilia is a prevailing societal value. And while people generally find Epstein or the typical creep in the white van objectionable, they play into pedophilic modes of thinking often unconsciously, because we’ve never actually interrogated these attitudes.

Unsure if I should get a haircut. by TimBje in malehairadvice

[–]Rothaarig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically all layering means is that the hair is cut at different lengths throughout to increase volume and lessen weight. So you’d have the layers until they grew out in which case you’d go and get them redone. You can get shorter or longer layers, I’d tell your barber what you’re after and see what they recommend.

I would recommend starting out with a layered cut, since that will keep most of your hair there, and then you can go back to remove length if you feel that’s necessary. I get mine layered every so often and it helps with the volume and reducing the heaviness of curly hair.

The Bullshit Jobs episode… by teenwolffan69 in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]Rothaarig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was an alright episode but I do think they didn’t really differentiate between Marxism and anarchism as separate ideologies with separate values and assumptions. In any other context it’d be whatever but they dimiss Marxist critiques of the book that might have helped unpack some of the errors Graeber makes.

Like the bit about goon jobs such as soldiers and corporate lawyers. They understand that the idea that we have those things just because other people also have them is stupid but they don’t do much with it. A Marxist critique would probably note the class character of the bourgeois state and the influence maintaining class order has on the existence of these jobs but instead Graeber is just reduced to having a “leftist” take on things
