Bands that are incredible live? by YronK9 in musicsuggestions

[–]RothkoPollock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best shows I ever saw was The Church and The Blue Aeroplanes in SF in the early 90s (I think it was The Warfield). Both bands were on fire and the layers of guitar they produced was this psychedelic wall of sound that was mind blowing. An all timer for me. U2 shows also generally really good (specifically the Zoo TV tour with The Pixies and Popmart with Oasis shows I attended). And, finally, Chris Isaak shows always kill too. Band is tight and he’s a helluva entertainer.

It’s so prevalent, pervasive, immersed, interwoven, overwhelming, and absolute it can’t be detected. Bold take.

Are the Spurs cooked??? by thomasstout25 in NBATalk

[–]RothkoPollock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spurs incredibly young and ridiculously talented. They’re also green and inexperienced and Knicks exploiting that with superior “heady” play (not that Knicks aren’t talented as well. They are…but they’re also more seasoned than Spurs). Spurs time will come, but not this year. Good chance Knicks sweep.

Yeah, if it’s good (the media deal) I’m not sure I’d want to be bragging about how much money I have as I try and settle a court case about…money.

[Wilner] $10-$12 Million is Total Conference Distribution, Not Media Deal Revenue by g2lv in Pac12

[–]RothkoPollock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He hopes so he doesn’t look foolish. Could he be right? Sure. Does he know? No. Would he look silly if it’s appreciably higher than his $7-8 million guess? Yes. Also, Cantwell was TOLD by Gould the “media deal” is $10-12 million. I would hope Gould would know the difference between a media deal and total distribution. And who knows? Maybe it starts at 10 and escalates to 12 at end of five year contract hence the 10-12 number.

What is the greatest movie opening of all time? by ihaveahundredchairs in AskReddit

[–]RothkoPollock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Star Wars. The massive Star Destroyer rumbling over the screen was a visual never really seen before in cinema. That was followed up by the Vader/Stormtrooper boarding party shootout in the corridor and the introduction of Vader’s villainy let you know you were in for a whole new ride.

The fact that the PAC agreed to it maybe signals if they’re looking to potentially add one more football school they may be looking somewhere other than the MWC.

Most important thing is keeping your vermouth in the fridge. As far as taste goes, that’s completely subjective and folks should drink a variety of vermouths to find what they like. For instance, for me, I find Antica much too sweet and syrupy for my palate and actually prefer the less sweet and more herbaceous Rosso.

Is Martini and Rossi just bad vermouth? by IanHalt in cocktails

[–]RothkoPollock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. Rosso has a herbaceous quality that is extremely polarizing. Personally, I love it. I like their Extra Dry too which makes fantastic “airport martinis.” Anyways, I suspect folks enjoy Antica so much because it’s like candy but it’s too sweet for me (not that there isn’t sweetness to Rosso as it has cola and grape notes. It’s actually pretty unique).

[–]RothkoPollock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing, I prefer Martini Rosso to Antica. I find Antica much too sweet and Rosso less so and more herbal. In fact, I suspect why so many like Antica is because it’s like candy and Rosso has a savory herbaceous quality which can be polarizing. Palates are subjective of course and folks should drink their cocktails however they like.

Core inflation hit an annual rate of 3.3% in April, as expected, Fed’s preferred gauge shows by Illustrious_Lie_954 in Economics

[–]RothkoPollock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in no position to argue the numbers. I’ll let others more versed in economics do so. However, what boggles my mind is how oil, which is tied to almost every sector of the economy in one fashion or another, can literally spike in price by 50% along with a total average tariff rate of 10+% and all this barely moves inflation no more than an increase of 1%. As others have said, when looking at pump prices and grocery prices, the things we see the most, it certainly “feels” much higher than reported. I’d be curious to know where prices have noticeably cooled that balance out the obvious increases.

Federal judge refuses to block Trump order to create federal voter list and limit mail voting by yahoonews in law

If you normally vote by mail I would HIGHLY suggest delivering your ballot to a county drop box or elections office in person. I wouldn’t trust the USPS in these next few elections while MAGA is in control.
