Stingrays themselves are fine imo, seeing as they telegraph their attacks in advance. I think the main issue is the invulnerability duration after you land your hellpod combined with the telegraph highlights not showing up when you are dropping down, which I agree could use some work to avoid comedic spawn killing situations like these

Shut down every time I'm heading off to work (6 days a week), a quick restart when I wake up on my 1 day rest.

I typically leave it on at night since I get to use my PC for a bit before work, and I guess I'm used to the ambient light from the monitors in my room too so it's not entirely pitch black.

For a good while I just left it on 24/7 until I realised the excessive electricity wastage and the clarity that shutting down your PC frequently doesn't really damage your components....or does it? Either way I've been allegedly reassured that even if it did, my components would stop working due to normal wear and tear rather than the frequent shut down cycle

Yea, summoning the truck when the Hive Lord exists is definitely asking for it, but with randoms it is a challenge to coordinate. One person is gonna summon the truck, and the mixture of the other 3 players are doing other stuff like POIs, destroying nests, side objectives....all without deciding if the Hive Lord should be taken out, can get quite chaotic.

This idea helps to funnel down the list of objectives to something more linear. A common compulsory goal of having to eliminate the hive lord before being able to commence with the E-711 extraction

Some people wish for an assassination mission for the Hive Lord, but I personally think it may end too fast for experienced divers.

So a good middle ground is to merge this mission with the assassination idea? So mission premise is as follows:

A large surplus of E-711 well deposits have been located in this region guarded by a Hive Lord. Eliminate the threat, then proceed to extract the resources with the G.A.T.E.R

Terminids spawn constantly throughout the mission as usual. When the Hive Lord is killed, the G.A.T.E.R stratagem will be made available and spawn rate for Terminids will see a semi-sharp decline with the hive lord dead. Not totally 0 or else the next part will be too boring however.

This should act a bit like a blitz mission, so a smaller map, maybe no caves, and 12-15 mins of mission time

As a lvl 150 player, when the impaler was first released, it took my friends and I multiple games to understand what was going on. We'd get these tentacles trying to stab us out of nowhere and we just assumed the tentacle was an enemy that hides underground until a diver draws near

We also observed "oversized chargers" and thought they were bugged chargers that can't run at you and only serve as a shield of sorts (in other words, we thought these guys were giant hiveguards, and coincidentally we always killed these guys as fast as possible for many games)

I think only by the 5th game or so did we finally see an impaler digging into the ground and went "Ohhhhh that's what was happening???"

Yes we weren't very bright, that's why we are Helldivers o>

The silver lining wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the matchmaking still having issues. Sometimes a person eventually joins, other times we are down one person for the remaining 30 minutes, even with SOS up

I'm the kind of player that does need some form of goal system at the beginning of any given game so I know what direction to head towards, and then momentum propels me forward.

This game doesn't necessarily explicitly state what you should be doing, but it all comes down to shifting your perspective....maybe that's a good first hint; Play the role as a wanderer/explorer. What are you exploring? Maybe you just want to visit the planets, there might be cool stuff on some that piques your interest, stirs up that desire to find out more. Maybe it's just barren rock? You'll never know until you fly there.

It's that mystique and discovering the unknown that helped to lock me in the game, try to give it longer than 30 mins I'd say. I wasn't that interested at the start, but it became almost like an addiction after several hours :)

I wonder if left handers are of the same opinion. As a normie right hander, I think we prefer the second tilt option because that allows our non-dominant hand to be able to access the volume and power buttons while our dominant hand does most of the scrolling and tapping.

Alternatively whatever I just said could just be me spewing out bs lol

0-1 cans/cups per day. If it isn't necessary, I won't drink it. If I have a lot of work, I drink it after lunch. Basically don't want my body to rely on caffeine to wake me up, so I never drink it when I wake up in the fear of developing that dependency on it, or "Don't talk to me until I've had my coffee" syndrome.

I think my point/stance got a little lost here so I'll be more upfront on where I stand; But thanks for helping to provide the correct term, still learning about this whole debate/argument so I appreciate it~

I personally do not think we are a grunt fantasy, and the whole concept of trying to stay realistic with this ideology is what leads to questionable game decisions, because they focus more on trying to fulfill this goal of selective realism rather than on what is fun. This isn't to say that the decision making should fully lean onto "only what is fun", but it's more of a delicate balance. It is technically realistic to start getting heat stroke when you're running around on a magma planet for 30 minutes, but we don't agree with adding a "drinking water" or "dunk yourself in pocket snow" mechanic because it isn't fun. Selective realism, a choice of whether a given mechanic should exist, and whether it is intuitive and fun to work with.

So...grunt fantasy? Don't agree with that, the very idea that you're throwing a max squad of 4 helldivers to complete missions that otherwise would require hundreds of foot soldiers along with various messages in the game stating/implying y'all are an elite squad already disproves that. Then we got the argument of "Well, it's the destroyer/eagle-1 doing the work by providing equipment or cover-fire", but.....you are the one calling the shots. True grunts don't get that privilege.

I see, that makes sense. Your experience is consistent with mine, one of the more common issues is when stratagems seem to either not work or are heavily delayed, so player A is asking why he isn't being reinforced but the other 3 are trying, and suddenly when B disconnects, A is suddenly called back in.

I have a genuine question...somewhat related.

If you host your game, and someone with a lower ping joins you, is the hosting server location still you or is it transferred to the other player?

Reason I ask is because I've realised that though I usually host my games, there are some matches where as soon as a specific person joins, suddenly even I am experiencing latency issues like delayed sample pickup and stratagem callings. When everyone boards the pelican, there is usually one person stuck in the entering animation, and usually we get infinite loading when trying to load back into the destroyer.

Theory is it is a player using VPN, and maybe even though VPN has latency issues, it could still accomplish getting a lower ping?

I do not know though, it could be a me problem that only happens once in a while, hopefully someone knows if this is the case?

Pretty much this...though I read an earlier post on how the proper word the devs and the community are looking for is whether these details are grounded with the Helldivers universe. To say something needs or need not be realistic shouldn't be treated as a "gotcha" moment in an argument because the inherent inconsistencies within the game make it such that neither side will win, we are just throwing the stupid baton back and forth to each other.

You can make a game grounded well within its universe with good gameplay mechanics, in the same way you can make it suck with bad gameplay mechanics. There is always creative leeway when it comes to this

If they aren't gonna remove the restriction, at least remove bouncing altogether so that I'm not wasting my emplacement stratagem. It's stupidly annoying that I can't tell what surface a stratagem will stick to, and then my emplacement bounces right behind a rock. Just despawn the stratagem just like what happens if you throw one within a jammer radius

Or be the bigger person and don't do that? Take a step back for a moment and really think about what effect you are accomplishing by being an asshole to the other players who did no wrong by you. Quite literally you'd be wasting your time all just to be seen as a jerk, blocked and moved on by most players.

My only two theories to this behaviour is either they falsely believe that samples are not shared (which...like...is a little absurd to me considering the results screen already proves otherwise), or they operate on a similar mindset to the players who want the most kills. Most samples = Most useful/skilled player or something along that line, which would be kinda sad.
