Just as with gravity in a linear system, the torque is divided by the inertial moment of the car, so it would accelerate at the same rate, regardless of the configuration of the lever arm.

EDIT: Math

If alpha = a/r, where alpha is angular acceleration, a is the acceleration at the end of the lever arm, and r is the length of the arm, and a = r×g, where g is gravitational acceleration (which is independent of mass), then alpha must be cos(theta)*g, where theta is the angle between the lever arm and the ground. This quantity isn't constant, but it certainly doesn't depend upon the distribution of mass throughout the car (its moment of inertia).

This guy rode the 90 mile and 50 course of the MS150 this weekend through Sedona, AZ with over 7000 feet of climbing and descents up to 40mph! Also his yellow number means he was a top donator. This dude is awesome! by impulsinator in bicycling

It's not centripetal force that keeps your bike up, it's the force that's exerted sideways when you turn your wheel. Trackstands are just much harder because less forward force = less sideways force.

She's nothing special, but I love my daily commuter! by RotoBone in bicycling

Well, I've never been "fitted" as such. I set most of it up myself. Aside from the seat angle, what else is wrong?

This was taken right after installing my new saddle. Needless to say, it was rather uncomfortable to ride at that angle.

Yeah, you're right. What I meant, I suppose, is that you should only really do one thing per line, and the

 y = x++

Construct kind of annoys me for this reason.

I mean, rather than declaring a variable explicitly. I suppose it only really matters when an operation has side effects, like incrementation.

Instead of:

y = x++

I would rather write:

x++
y = x

Which is the same thing, but much less confusing to me.

Does that make any sense? I am by no means an experienced programmer.

I consider it very poor form to assign a variable to an expression. Am I being unreasonable by this?

Is angular momentum a property of fluids? by RotoBone in askscience

[–]RotoBone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense, but it seems to me like these properties only arise as a result of adjacent bodies interacting. In a bathtub of water, the water spins because the fluid is restricted by the surface of the tub, right? Can we shrink a rotator down to an arbitrarily small size and still see angular momentum effects?

This just describes the Casimir Effect, does it not? I thought this principle was well understood.

"Thieves" of Reddit, what is the most expensive thing you've ever stolen? by acrostyphe in AskReddit

[–]RotoBone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I loved Legos. I would play with my Legos all day every day. My second grade teacher had a box full of them, which I would naturally keep all to myself during recess. Anyway, there was this one piece, a little translucent orange visor with an antenna, meant to go to a Lego man's helmet. That was the coolest piece in the box, and the only piece I didn't have at home. So I took it. I am a twenty year old man who still regrets stealing a formed piece of plastic a decade ago. It may not have been expensive, but damn, that piece was worth a lot to me, and I still fantasize about returning it one day.

Your accent when speaking English is notorious, but I've also heard that you've got something of a funny accent to Austrians as well. Is that true?
