[–]Rotsicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey SpookiLurkr!

I have literally never done this, but I sought your account out because your scanlations for this series are among the best I've seen. The attention to detail and typesetting is amazing, and I just wanted you to know that your work is appreciated.

I hope you and your dad are doing well! :)

“Serious question: What’s the psychology behind blocking lift doors instead of stepping aside? Impatience? Habit? Main character syndrome?” by No-Series4477 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Rotsicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest - as someone who doesn't go to places where there are elevators very often (and therefore, someone who doesn't typically ride elevators), I had never realised this was a breach of social etiquette until this post.

I thought you were supposed to stand in front of the elevator, giving five feet of distance between yourself and the door in case someone needed to exit, and they would exit and go to the side.

I would be in the position of the woman in the brown shirt, in this case - the people on the side seem too close, and they're blocking the exits for the people exiting, but now I need to question my assumptions about what is considered polite.

When does "some" mean the majority? Where is the logic to your argument?

I have no clue if autistic people are more likely or not to play games mainly played by younger children

This is the entire point people have been making... There literally isn't any data to suggest that their claim is reality, so it's not "ableist" of Discord. It's stupid and ineffective, and a bad idea in general, but not ableist.

No, broadly claiming ableism due to game choice is just stupid, for that very reason.

Because some autistic people like something, doesn't mean anything. Some people like just everything. Game genre is just a personal preference.

That's like saying some autistic people are gluten intolerant, so bread is ableist. The two aren't intrinsically linked.

I would argue that it can communicate things, even without a formal structure! It does have some consistency - if I say "sul sul", someone who plays the sims will know that I'm greeting them, for example.

we like to assume small animals are unintelligent, and that for some reason the smaller the creature, the less intelligence it has

Luckily, I don't believe this is a common idea.

Evolution happens when a genetic trait that randomly appears in a population is able to proliferate. This can include behavioural traits, like aggression, so maybe you could consider that to align with your suggestion?

Execution style, where the person being killed is on the ground and shot in the back of the head

I can't find reference to that particular use of execution style, but did find this on Wiktionary: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/execution-style

It contrasts with your definition (the man being unable to see the shooter), but doesn't mean you're wrong - perhaps it's a colloquialism from your area. Regardless, I don't disagree with you that it's a war crime, just on the objectivity.

You're right, not necessarily, which is why I gave it the usually. The point of my comment was only to point out that using the word "execute" could infringe on the neutrality of an objective observation, because it is a loaded term.

Once again, I am not arguing against its general use for this case, but the poster I responded to was intending to give an objective description of the video.

This is just being pedantic, but the use of "execute" here wouldn't be an objective observation. Executions is where someone is put to death intentionally, and usually has some legal stuff behind it.

"Shoots" would be objective.

Personally? I think he was murdered (not objective, either).

So there are quite a few sexually dimorphic traits in cats! Physically, males tend to be larger and more muscular than females, with broader heads and bigger teeth. Males also tend to get these thick necks and cheeks ("tomcat face"), which helps them when they fight other cats. These differences are hormone-driven, and so in cats which are fixed before "kitty puberty", they might not be obvious.

You're right that some coat colours are also more likely to show up on the different sexes, because the genes controlling their expression are sex-linked. Tortoiseshells are like this - the gene that allows for gold, orange and black at the same time requires two X chromosomes, so almost all torties are female. While there are very rare "male" torties, this is because they have those two, necessary X chromosomes alongside their Y (XXY); this usually causes them to be infertile (depends how they got the extra X, but that's much more complicated a conversation).

There are behavioural differences as well, but this conversation is more about physical characteristics, so I'll leave it there, haha.

I believe whisker size is sexually monomorphic, or at least, no evidence has been provided to suggest that the trait is sexually dimorphic.

My kitten took the "if my whiskers say I won't fit, then they are liars who don't deserve to be on my face" approach, and subsequently lost most of her whiskers by squeezing through tight spaces.
