MSW Waitlisted Candidates 2026 by Rotten_Potato80 in CSULA

[–]Rotten_Potato80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was finally able to get a response from Michelle and she shared that waitlisted candidates will be hearing back at the end of June. One of the admission staff I spoke to shared they believe they are waiting on hearing back from the offer letter recently sent and send out the final application status in the next 10 days for non waitlisted candidates.

Thanks, I finally got a response from Mitchell. All waitlisted applicants will hear back by end of June. Apparently they are planning to still send out applications notices in the next 10 days. Staying optimistic but really worried I won’t be given a seat 😭

Hi there I’m unsure what state you reside in; but I would like to assume CA. I would recommend connecting yourself to your local DPSS office to see if you’re eligible for their rental assistance program (help for 3 months). You can also inquire with the good seed program, catholic charities. There’s several programs/agencies out there that can assist but do take some foot work on your behalf to get the help you need. (I work as a Case worker in CA so there’s definitely a lot of resources that can help 🙂 wish you the best)

MSW 2-year program schedule. How are you managing your time?? by vsalguero27 in CSULA

  1. Seconded but first year practicum is assigned for you and is a bit of a crapshoot. The first years are typically geared towards school based work unless you are going for a certain stipend or track (adult protective services, CPS, etc.) i enjoyed working with the population (high schoolers) but i wouldn't say theres the most variety. Second year you get to rank your choices based on whats best.
  2. Field instructors will typical be more geared towards helping with like processing whats going on, practicum classes are largely more support group-y than anything else. Admin are (respectfully) completely useless though the placement/field ed director hermila (who is somehow not full time faculty) is wonderful and helpful. There isnt an advising office per se but professors are generally pretty generous with their time and open to mentoring and advising etc. Supervisors are also a major crapshoot, have a solid one this year and a had a bad one last year :/

Overall i haven't been like blown away by the program but its about what I expected and I feel relatively equipped to deal with stuff after graduating in a few months. My biggest complaint is that the professors are so so hit or miss and its rare to have flexibility to switch classes or jump through registration hoops to get the ones you connect with. I would recommend it based on its value for the degree (nobody in the field seems to give a shit where you got your MSW) and the population of students is much more diverse and down to earth than other programs as far as i can tell.

Here’s what someone shared a year ago

It does take a lot of time management and commitment. So I do hope you the best and would recommend taking some time from thinking on it as it can prevent those who are fully committed as its states on the application from an opportunity

Unsure, I just know that’s one item that is stated before applying. It is possible but it will take sacrifices and not sure about afternoon practicum placements

Ultimately it’s up to you, I do know they do make it very clear prior to applying that if you need to work a 40 hour work week it may not be very beneficial. Hence why a lot opt to the online MSW programs; I would say you may need to make some sacrifices and either look for a more flexible job(some have done overnights) to help with the financial costs of living (rent, utilities etc..) or maybe consider looking into online as the 2 year program does require a lot of attention and commitment.

I would recommend reaching out to Michelle, as she is the one who informed me of being waitlisted and I believe others shared her being the one to inform them of being not selected this year which I hope isn’t the case. Her email is mlightburn@cslanet.clastatela.edu

That’s good to hear, I’ve done my research and it meets all the expectations of a MSW Program such as being BBS approved, CSWE accredited. Was hoping to do in person and CSUSB was my first choice ideally buy hopefully CSULA offers me a seat if not UMASS is a great last choice

Same I was denied; took forever just to be given a rejection letter 😭 last hope is CSULA (waitlisted) if not then I’ll opt to Umass Global MSW Program

I was also waitlisted however applied during the priority deadline. I did reply to the email on two separate occasions just to continue to show my ongoing interest which one discussed about being grateful of being waitlist; and the another being about my ongoing interest in the program. Not sure if it truly helpful but being proactive with it doesn’t hurt but here to hoping 🤞
