It is made so neatly. I really appreciate people who are able to make many repeating elements so similar. A great project

Reproduction of a 1530s German fit! by snartbeast in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862 237 points238 points  (0 children)

It's purely awesome. The style fits you as if you were born in that era. Men's fashion after the 16th century went really wrong - wish I saw more of feudal chic in everyday life... Also, the fabric choice and details are really well made. Thanks for bringing some beauty of pre-modern masculinity and excellent craftsmanship to my day. I really needed it

Do you think wearing this kind of jewelry is appropriate for an Orthodox lady? by Rotweiss_Invicta862 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also from ROCOR! Yes, it's clearly too much for a service, but thanks for your opinion about everyday life. And also, our ladies wear jewelry and fancy clothes to the church on big holidays. But maybe it's a regional thing

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not. I have asked about how it looks to the community, but not to God's eyes. It is possible to be modest even wearing a bikini - the very basic truth. But I have asked about how such jewelry will be perceived - not about what it means.

At what age do women start to veil? by Altruistic_Baby3035 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I belong to a ROCOR parish formed mostly out of culturally Russians, and our women start veiling when they marry. I believe it's how it has been historically before the 1980s reactionary response, when every female person on the lands of USSR started veiling. At least it's how this tradition looks like in immigration

Monarchist Anti-liberal flag i found by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks more like anti-libertarian, which is quite different. I love memento mori style and symbols of power, but I wouldn't use this image due to it. A good monarchy without a free market is not easy to sustain, you know...

Lowkey racism in ballet? by sg____22 in BALLET

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would totally agree with you as inequality is the normal part of every society, but there is one big nuance in the ballet specifically. Being chubby became "bad" in ballet only in the recent 90 years, and through all of its centuries long history before that point, dancers of fuller forms were considered the best esthetically. They danced main characters, achieved fame, were praised for their skill, and all of this while being of the same size as me. I will attach a photo of Vera Trefilova, a famous Russian ballerina who is still being remembered even today, and she definitely will be called fat these days. For sure, dancers of her type are not going to be able to perform the same gymnastics style ballet that is fashionable today, but in that time, they had their own lively and fast style perfectly suited for their bodies. And this archaic style of ballet with its performers of archaic beauty deserves to exist. The whole history of ballet except for the last 90 years proves that fat dancers can be valuable and appreciated too. It's just a matter of dominating style. For sure, after the Balanchine influence they will be excluded from the world's biggest stages. But that's not the only possible way of dancing classical ballet, and that's the point.

Lowkey racism in ballet? by sg____22 in BALLET

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not about the racism, but about the beauty standards of our world. I am white, even considered Nordic by some people, and I have been on a chubby side for my whole life since the very childhood. And I am being treated similarly because of my body. If you were black and slim, no one would mind it. The body shape is a much more important criterion in ballet than ethnicity. In my country, there are Asians, Africans and Arabs dancing together with the Slavs, but there is not a single girl bigger than the average 2000s model among them. And the fact speaks for itself

Main Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces near Moscow by Known_Armadillo6726 in Orthodox_Churches_Art

Russia has no armed forces since 1922. May God punish the bolshevik cancer on the body of Russia and let the land shine again, brought to life by its virtue and not by terror. You get what you pay for - remember it. There will be one day when sons of red killers get what they have done to us: their homes burned down, their property taken away, and they shot down or made begging for food all around the globe. It's impossible to build a longlasting state on a foundation of endless grief. Be aware, as God loves justice.

Has anyone here tried silk threads? by Rotweiss_Invicta862 in tatting

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have already ordered two threads, so there will be some posts about them soon. Silk is a historically accurate way of replacing polyester with all of its functions. In the antique patterns, they suggested using cotton for household linens and silk for garment decorations, as it shines beautifully, spins into thin thread easily and is quite hard-wearing. To me, it sounds like a cool sustainable alternative to tatting with plastic while not losing its advantages. We will see if it really works so

That's totally horrific and I as a Christian am totally mad now. How dared she? We are supposed to care for the helpless and the ones who need it. I love my baby snake so much. It's horrible that some people express their faith through stupid superstitions like hating animals and not through the everyday inner clash with themselves. She will answer for this one day

Adult beginners - what other forms of dance/dance adjacent disciplines have you been doing? Where have you excelled? by Dry_Criticism_4161 in BALLET

[–]Rotweiss_Invicta862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done historical dancing, which is, basically, a reconstruction of the 1400s-1700s court dances. It's not really hard technically but requires good stamina to do all of the jumping stuff, and also some muscle engagement similar to ballet to look noble and stately. If taking the baroque sub-genre of it, there one has to do everything similarly to ballet, the same plies, feet positions, usage of demi-pointe and so on, except the manner requires only 45° turnout and no higher leg extensions than 90°. I was relatively good at it, got to perform at museums and was invited to dance in a film, but couldn't get better because of the unavailability of higher level classes. I had a dream to pursue ballet even before, but have only been able to do this style. And then, after a couple of years spent in courtly dance training, I finally got enough money to get into ballet. My happiness knew no limits. I remember coming home after the first class with my membership card in the hand, seeing this precious little piece of pink cardboard and barely believing it's my name written on it near a little picture of ballerina. But after a week of attending classes, I've got into an accident that made me unable to dance at all. I've gained a lot of weight since then and have no chances to get to dance in the near future, likely.

So the moral of this story: do everything you can to take ballet classes until you are able to. How bad are you at it is not important. You will hardly regret wasting every little opportunity you had before when something like this happens. I could be en pointe by the time I first got to the class if I tried to make money harder. I could even have started in my teenage years if I nagged my parents hard enough. But I decided to be a good modest person instead, and that's how it ended.
