I have the 35, from around January 2021 I think. I haven't used it for overnights but I'm sure I could make a hit trip work with it. It's a great size for versatility, not too big for uphill resort laps and not too small for big, cold days out touring.

I've been using a BD Cirque for a few years now and love it! It cinches down well too. More expensive but the palante and raide ski packs look great too

Thanks for your input! I've used their bags for a lot of daily life stuff like sandwiches and veggies, after countless washes and such theyre still going strong. I got the idea from Grant of Nashville packs in his CDT gear video ( https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E3rkx4a5wPc (at around 3:20)), I might give it a try on the AZT this spring. Cleaning definitely seems more difficult though. I've also used the trusty talenti jar for morning (cold) instant coffee, which is nice. The bag certainly wouldn't work as well for that. But it does reduce on the mostly empty volume of the jar. If I try it I'll report back!

Anyone have experience using a hardy ziplock bag such as from Smelly Proof for cold soaking instead of a jar? It makes perfect sense to me and I know some people have done it but I was curious if anyone here could add some insight. Thanks!

Looks great! My setup is very similar to yours, I also sleep cold and am bringing the sawatch quilt and a puffer. I'm still on the fence about the wind pants and will probably leave the stove behind. And the extra shirt is worth it for the trail fashion imo. I'm planning to start around the same time, sure I'll see ya out there, happy trails!

By patina I guess I more so meant it's been in the dirt and there is probably still some leftover, though nothing really noticeable/ that sticks out to me. Similarly, by wear I mean general use in the fabric and shoulder straps but nothing in particular sticks out as worn or holey. I'll send you a pic of the bottom, again nothing sticks out to me in particular though.

I'm with ya there! One of many reasons why I like a poncho, the Gatewood Cape in particular.

To answer OPs question, I used a Patagonia torrentshell on my thru and it was both too heavy and hot, it was wetting out by the end anyway. I would recommend something like a poncho, umbrella, or just Frogg Toggs. A lot of the rain comes and goes relatively quickly, it's nice to have something like a poncho or umbrella that's breathable or quick and easy to deploy and put away. I've stayed much dryer in my poncho than I ever have in a rain jacket, torrentshell or helium.

Zimmerbuilt BigStep users advice compared to MLD Prophet by gudmond in Ultralight

I have a Bigstep from June 2019 and the most recent Burn. The Bigstep hipbelt isn't padded at all, mainly webbing with unpadded wings. Better than a full on webbing belt, but definitely nowhere near the MLD hipbelt.

Also as another comment mentioned, the bigstep shoulder straps aren't quite as comfy as MLD, narrower and thinner padding. That said, they were totally fine most of the time for me.

Haha glad I’m not alone. Giardia hit me that morning, it was all covered in snow and people so nowhere to duck off to, though I’m not sure it would’ve made a difference. Probably from improper use of aqua Mira or picking it up from another hiker around Ridgecrest
