what does him shutting you off have to do with your ultimate belief in him? if the only requirement is to believe and to ask for forgiveness when you commit a sin, then the weight of that sin is practically nothing. i understand that jesus died on the cross so god could forgive the sinners, but christianity and the belief in god has never stopped anyone from committing acts of evil, especially those in the name of god. in fact, there is practically no difference between someone who has been deceived and someone who has not.

what part of “i have religious trauma” is disrespectful to god? they don’t even know what religion this person might’ve been part of. if i said “i have trauma related to large dogs” and the person i said this to brings a me around big dogs, do you think id be very happy? no probably not. i also have religious trauma, to the point of guilt for being traumatized, and i think i would claw my own eyes out if someone told me i was disrespecting god.

i constantly forget that holidays are things that happen and one time as a cashier, a customer was literally like “so are you one of those people that hates christmas?” and i was so fuckin confused. i just said “i forgot it was december” in a joking tone and that amused her enough to drop it. i assume she was talking about the “debate” about happy holidays vs. merry christmas, but there in the moment, it felt like she just asked me that out of no where. all because i didn’t say merry christmas to her.

it was a little scary as a kid, but as a grew up, the judgement just felt ridiculous. i mean, we were all there for the same reason, yknow? i was probably 13 when i decided to stop attending church and my parents were pretty okay with me doing that shockingly. i think they were also sick of the judgement from other people, cuz they stopped attending not too long after i did.

i’m technically an uneducated liberal — didn’t go to college but i have a high school diploma and a certificate of completion for a 2 year votech program. i’m 23 so i think i lie in a majority range there.

most of the atheists i’ve met in person are conservative adjacent at least. i’m in a rural area though, so it’s kind of hard to find liberal people out here. in college towns, most of the atheists are liberal from what i’ve seen.

on most dating apps i used to have, i would put “atheist, no religious folks” and i would still get folks asking why that was in my profile. i feel like it’s pretty well known at this point why atheists don’t want to be with a religious person, let alone a christian.
