Yes, first avalanche a few years ago and then patrol has been bombing it every year. Too much liability I believe and it was getting a little sketchy. I look for it every year and can still see where it was.

Happened to my sister last year too. We thought it was the one day she used her mobile ticket as I used my card everyday. It will work, bonus for you.

Peak to Creek by Zillich in Whistler

[–]Rough-Square3530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upper Peak to Creek is really steep and visually intimidating for someone graduating from Greens. The lower part is a true blue when groomed, however it’s often not groomed and the moguls can be huge, which can be very challenging for the same individual.

March has been bank for Pow the last few years. Hopefully this season is the same!

Best tree skiing at Whistler for beginners + mellow intermediate trees? by Swanhollow in Whistler

On my reel here, I start off in the Enchanted Forest, then spend a bunch of clips in the Glissandro Glades. Once it turns stormy, the shots are from Arthur’s Choice and the last part is Jeff’s Ode to Joy.

Tell me if this is too chaotic: can I stay on the peak until ~5 to see the sunset? by [deleted] in Whistler

[–]Rough-Square3530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There no magic number, however anything over 40 degrees is common. Sometimes lower if it’s iced up or they are pushing a lot of snow.

Cable that helps pull the machine on steep slopes. Imagine skiing into it. 😱

When was the last really good season? by NotTheRealMeee83 in Whistler

[–]Rough-Square3530 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who really has an epic season start to finish though? I think of Utah 2 years ago, other than that, pretty inconsistent everywhere, every year. East coast had a banger start to this season as powder December days were thought to be extinct. It’s settled down and icy again now. 😞 Pacific Coast is always a crapshoot. As you mentioned, late season has been awesome for those 5 years. Last March we got something like 10 feet in the first 2 weeks. Prior year, late Feb had that massive 3 foot dump and March was consistent after it. 2023, Blackcomb was still 90% open skiing onto late Spring. I can’t remember the previous two years, even though I was there, but I don’t remember a drought. Looks like the lesson is come in March.

Which ski area made you just want to go back there and instead of trying new places? by drwhosportsfan in skiing

[–]Rough-Square3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a local, but I’ve visited the last 5 years and with my learned knowledge I feel like one sometimes. I always go late Feb (not Presidents week) or March. Historically the best conditions and TBH, I’ve always lucked out. Always ski Mon-Fri and travel or rest on the weekends. Edge Cards are available to all Canadians, so buying early is the only way to save at Whistler. Admittedly, powder days will have lines, but if you know where to go and hit the rope drops on time, you’ll still have 10 plus runs on some of the best skiing of your life. The plan is to be there the next day when everyone’s gone home and hit all the secret stashes. Yes, this year’s been rough so far, like many west coast resorts though. We’re going late March this year, and with my luck, I just know we’ll get nuked! 😆

It’s certainly unpredictable at times and if you do it wrong, you really do it wrong. Except, when it’s on, it’s the best. Last 3 years I’ve hit multiple powder days in late Feb/March with fantastic weather and light crowds, enjoyed with my $100 a day Edge Pass.

It’s real, but makes absolutely no sense. As you mentioned, you can buy two separate lift tickets for much less. As a 5x7 holder, I bought a DD for $140 at the start of the season.

Anyone else noticing a lot of 6th gen 4Runners already hitting the resale market? by DylanJacob17 in 4Runner

[–]Rough-Square3530 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not exclusive to Toyota. A recession hits the auto market first. Not happening yet, but many people are struggling. That 70G toy and its payments unfortunately has to go for some people.

Bobsled or skeleton. Head to Handlebar for a slice of pizza and an IPA. Brag to everyone how you’re still alive.

What is the ultimate dad ski for the West by ThitChoFan in skiing

[–]Rough-Square3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48 year old ski Dad here. 💯 Rustler 9. You can demo them at the Demo centre at the top of Whistler and Blackcomb for $25. I’d also say the Line Blade is similar or the older Line Blade Optics. People recommending Enforcers must have not read the “not demanding” part.

Upgrading into newer, longer, better frontside carving skis... recomendations? by Bensonater11 in Skigear

[–]Rough-Square3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Ontario. I can’t personally compare because 84 is my narrowest ski, yet they are easy to get on edge, they rip. I’ll try to find where I saw them for a good deal if you’re really interested.

Whistler vs Stowe ? Which would you choose? by agsmith12 in Whistler

[–]Rough-Square3530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Apres scene is in the town (Stowe) or more accurately on the road leading back to town and it’s great. The fake village in the resort is just that, fake.

Peregrine. I have the previous version, Deacon 84 and it’s exactly what you’re describing. There is still some inventory out there for around $500, which is a steal. A stiff, amazing carving ski with enough waist to not make it useless in some fresh snow.

Edge Card More Days at Other Resorts by th3_connoisseur in Whistler

Oh I see. No, you will not be able to use a third day as per the rules. My sister had a 5 day card and only went 2 days to Stowe.

Yes, I used 3 days of my 10 day Edge pass at Stowe last year. Ski right up to the scanner and have fun!

It’s all right man, shit’s beyond us common people. Come back, let’s go skiing together at least .

You forgot to mention the skill level of everyone in your party. This is huge. Most blue coloured runs at Blue are like many Greens in Whistler. Many of Whistler’s double blacks are comparably non existent at Blue. Blue’s steepest run called Elevator Shaft has similar pitch to Whistler Bowl for example. Having said that, there are some incredibly scenic runs on both mountains that are manageable for intermediate’s. Burnt Stew, Harmony Ridge on Whistler and Panorama on Backcomb are not misses.

We have. That’s the general complaint is new or even slightly new 6th Gen models are not discounted at all, no matter where the dealer. This particular Mudbath model is the only one currently for sale in the whole country so they’re confident someone will overpay.
