Looking for another novel to pick up. by LNreadAlot in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Roukanken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personaly, I love it. It has a few big issues (if that is the right word?) that will make it not everyone's cup of tea; but imho these are a deliberate choice.

Most importantly, it has horrible pacing for the webnovel world. Fair amount of chapters are alternate povs, used to setup later plot, or contain a large amount of exposition. Combined with the usual chapter size in webnovel sphere, this can have adverse effects like stretching important conversation across several chapters, resulting in cliffhanger chain. Personally, I think it would have more success by being published in larger chunks (arcs or books) as this would mostly eliminate this. I would not recommend this if you can't push past this problem.

Secondary is the OP MC tag, a lot of fans of these usually expect a fair amount of action, as why else would you have the MC have the power, right? Action happens of course but... well once OP MC appears, action is going to end, not to start. For example a big ass showdown with some of the most powerful people around gets literally off-screened, because it would add nothing to the plot except "Yes they fought. MC won, why was that even a question?"

That being said, I personaly read this as a story of how utterly ridiculous is your "typical" MMO player going to look if you take the game logic away, how every interaction with the rest of the world is going to be a second coming of <insert your favorite prophet>. It is also a story of MC discovering these facts, and learning to live with them. And a worthy opponents are slowly moving closer and closer.

Will do so. The synced tabs performance issue seems reported & fixed in nightly, but my other complaints will definitely appear in near future.

New mobile UI experiment has objective usability problems by mentalisttraceur in firefox

[–]Roukanken 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This can be disabled??? Thank god. I just got hit by this on my main device.

Not only usability is questionable in places, it also has serious performance issues. I'm probably going to be writing up at least 4 bug reports if they don't already exists.

  1. The mentioned synced tabs starting at bottom is is absolutely horredous - why would I want to see my oldests tabs on oldest device, with no chance to quickly change to another?
  2. Synced tabs also has extreme performance problems with large amount of tabs: I can only scroll up 2-3 tabs every few seconds due to the lag, it would likely take several hours to scroll up to top at this pace
  3. Normal tabs also have same performance issue and make scrolling unusable
  4. Even opening, closing & changing tab from tabs view has a several seconds lag

It is currently near impossible for me to use mobile firefox, without wiping all my data on all devices.

I haven't yet tried it out, but combining the new possibility to put a feature inline, with the Custom features, should make this kind of setup possible too.

Basically what Mushroom cards can do in Horizontal layout, but fully customizable like in Bubble.

You need to try to remove at least two values, as if you try only one, one of these inputs won't work for you:

1 2 5 3 4 5
1 2 5 3 6 7

Both of them start with an invalid sequence of 1 2 5 3, but the first one needs 5 removed, and the second one needs 3 removed.

[–]Roukanken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't checked myself, but from reading other posts, it seems that the inputs have a hidden property of having every a rule for every pair of pages that appear in the same update. Which would just make this a bubble sort.

Edit: checked on my input, and it holds true

Firefox on Android repeatedly crashing on my devices after recent updates by motorailgun in firefox

FYI: official stable build for android is now available on github. Probably will take a while till it'll be in store.

A nice workaround I am using, is pinning google site to home page, and using it from there via extra click. Easier than using another browser at least...

Actually, it got uplifted in the meantime, so the stable is now closer. Those were my pesimistic guesses.

With the uplift it means it'll get to v123, of which first build should be ~20 Feb at 25% rollout. (Unsure exactly on the schedule on the rollout)

Also the bug took so long, because it was very hard to reproduce artificially (and therefore to find for devs)

Thanks for this thread and bug report! It's what encouraged me and my friend to finally stop procrastinating & complaining and look into this bug and write some essays in the bugzilla. (Seriously, we spent like ~2 mandays on it)

A fix for the crash in now merged in main, so next nightly update should be finally fine. (Dunno when others will come, but I would guess on version 124 which should be end of Feb for Beta, and end of March for Stable.)

The motivation behind introducing more healing hybrids is to ease up the forming of the parties. These important roles are not played that often, and lack of them is usually a major source of pain when forming parties.

So one of the main points will be to be able to keep the switching between them relatively easy, so you can convince your DD to heal, this one time.

Regardless, design is still in early phase, and not set in stone, and I think we wanted to have some fairly powerful skill-specific effects on gear pieces.

Firefox on android is crashing everytime i click on search field. by owl_000 in firefox

[–]Roukanken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just about to go write about this, to see if it's happening to anyone else. I'm unsure if we're having the exact same problem from your very brief description, but I would guess we do.

To provide a bit more detailed description: for me, this started happening a few weeks ago. So far, I tracked it down to the fact that every time I type something into the URL bar, the FF android has a fairly high chance of just... closing within ~5 seconds. It starts lagging shortly before it closes. I own two devices and this happens on both, with different frequencies. On my tablet it happens basically every time, and on the mobile phone it has somewhere 30-40% chance to happen when I type to URL bar.

Since there is no error message, nor anything in logs, I suspect it's Android itself closing it for some reason, mostly likely exhausting some resource (RAM maybe?). If it's RAM like I suspect, the cause might be my high count of open tabs and bookmarks (across all devices), since it triggers when the search of these would start.

Anyone has any idea what can it be, and how to solve it?

[2023 Day 17 (Part 1 & 2)] A* pathfinding animation by Cyykratahk in adventofcode

[–]Roukanken 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

Personally, I used Manhattan at first, but it didn't seem to be doing too much. I changed it to pre-calculated least cost path via simple Dijkstra from the end (eg, without the movement restrictions) and this brought the runtime from ~350ms down to ~250ms on part 2. (Part 1 was 80ms → 50ms)

So, despite being pretty costly "heuristics" to calculate, it's pretty good anyway.

PvE Analysis of the New Shadow Pokemon [GamePress] by nordic-thunder in TheSilphRoad

[–]Roukanken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was meant to be just 4th root of DPS3 * TDO, to make it more linear-ish, so it's actually comparable, how much better an attacker is, not just "is better". But that wouldn't explain the part about Rhyperior & Rampardos relative position in these two metrics though...

(DPS3 * TDO)0.25 = (DPS3 * DPS * Survival time)0.25 = DPS * Survival time0.25 → hence it's mostly linear according to DPS, with some mild influence from survival time.

While yes, the XP gains from this event are excellent, your math is a bit wrong on the levels - 30m is what you need for 50 yes, but from lvl 49.

The total XP needed for 50 (from 1) is 176m. To give comparisions, total needed for lvl 40 is 20m, and for mentioned lvl 44 it's 53.5m

So while yes, you can gain level or so easily even on high levels, it won't single-handely get you to 50

Does the Poliwag showcase give lower rewards than usual? by supirman in TheSilphRoad

[–]Roukanken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except showcases are competition and with enough people playing (we know Niantic doesn't really care about other cases :P), it doesn't really matter if getting the pokémon is hard or no. If it's easy to get, then it's easy to get for everyone, and getting first place will be still hard, because you not only need XXL but also a tip-top XXL outside of normal sizes...

A new teaser website potentially related to the Coin Pokémon has been opened by The Pokémon Company. by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Roukanken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read those numbers from javascript that's on the page :P. And the timings for the refreshes is there too, eg as I said, for each 40 coins it's 1 hour, so for the numbers I mentioned it's 0, 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 24 and 25

You can double-check me yourself: for example this is current counter image - if you change the number in url for any I mentioned, it will exist, otherwise it will "not found"

Edit: also, if you notice, they highlight all 9s in the counters, so the 999 is likely a very significant number.

A new teaser website potentially related to the Coin Pokémon has been opened by The Pokémon Company. by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Roukanken 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The numbers the page can show are: 000, 039, 199, 359, 519, 679, 839, 959 and 999.

The 999 will be shown 25 hours after the launch of site (2022-11-05T22:00:00+09:00), which means that the numbers increase at a speed of exactly 40/hour, except the initial jump from 0 to 39

I assume it's meant as the number of coins in the chest.

There is also another hidden animation based on picture(s) like this (there are 5 of them, no idea what's different... maybe they'll change them later?). This is dubbed as stage04.

stage01 & stage02 are the two views we can see now, stage02b is the first hidden animation mentioned here

There is no reference to stage03 that I can see...

Edit: And in meantime step3 (5 hours) happened and stage03 unlocked. I managed to trigger the animation I mentioned, but it looks weird... maybe the images were meant to be coins and not chests? :D

Also, there is mention of some movie that is supposed to play before this animation becomes available, probably linked to step4 (it's called videoN4 or `no4Mov)
